Chapter Two: Teardrops in the Morning
Amy sniffed as more tears spilled down her face and onto her pillow. She just couldn't get over it- Sonic hated her? Perhaps all those semi-romantic times, Sonic had just been fooling around. Maybe he had been just playing with her feelings, to make her feel loved when she wasn't.
She remembered what Shadow and Metal Sonic often referred to him as. "Th-that faker," she managed to choke out. She felt a twang for saying it. Had Sonic, her Sonic, ever been fake?
...Sure he had. Forgotten dates, rejected hugs. Hurt feelings. Sonic wasn't her friend. Not anymore. He didn't care, so why should she? After all, Sonic had merely been teasing her all along. Sonic's voice echoed in her head, over and over in remembrance. She buried her face in the pillow.
"Hey Ames! What's up?"
"Wow, Amy. I've never seen anyone grow roses like that. You've got talent!"
"Shadow tried to attack you? Bet you gave him something to think about on his way to Eggman's base."
"Ames is gonna catch me if I don't run!"
"Hey, no problem. Friends get eachother out of jams like this all the time!"
Amy swallowed.
"Seriously Ames! I mean it! Get off me!"
"You gotta catch me before ya smash me!"
"Nah, I don't think I'll ever get married. Too mushy. Wait-to you? NO WAY!"
"These cookies? You baked these? Well...they're okay. I guess."
"AAAAHHHH! I'M BEING ATTACKED BY A MANIAC!"
Amy sauntered downstairs. She needed something else to think about besides Sonic.
Amy walked out the door and kneeled down by her rose garden. Shades of red, pink, lavender, and yellow covered the soil underneath. Amy closed her eyes and took in the sweet smell. Until her eyes fell upon the white one. The pure white rose was too much. She bit her lip as the tears started to well up again. Teardrops joined dewdrops onto the sweet flowers.
Sonic had given her that rose years ago. She still had it, and it was still as sweet and beautiful as ever. Not bearing to look at it, Amy turned her head away and thrust her hand in front of her. When she looked back, the rose was crushed and small thorns prickled her hand. Strangely, Amy felt good about the ruined flower. She couldn't feel the pain in her hand.
A smile crept up her face. She didn't regret it at all. One more memory of Sonic destroyed.
...One million more to go.
Was this how she now felt about Sonic? Did she just not care anymore? The last tear dripped down her cheek. Did she even know who Sonic the Hedgehog was anymore? Maybe not. But now Amy knew what she had to do.
"Welcome, Amy!" Cream said cheerfully.
"Hi Cream!" said Amy. "Can I talk with your mom?"
Cream smiled. "Sure! She's in the kitchen." She pointed to the left.
"Thanks," said Amy as she walked to the kitchen.
Vanilla, Cream's mother, was baking a cake. "Why, hello, Amy, may I help you with something?" Vanilla asked while pouring a cup of water into a bowl.
"No, nothing, I just felt bored and wanted to talk with you. So, where was the best place you've ever gone to?" Amy sat down on a chair.
Vanilla smiled. "I always say that there's no place better than home, although if you mean other then that..." She stopped and drummed her fingers on the countertop, trying to recall. "I'd say...definitely Blue Valleys. It's a nice place, not far from here. ...Say, you aren't planning to go on a vacation, are you?"
Amy took a deep breath. "I'm moving." She braced herself for the shock.
Cream wailed, "What?" Vanilla dropped the two eggs she was holding.
"Oh, dear. I'll have to mop this up." Vanilla grabbed the mop in the corner. "For whatever reason are you moving?" asked Vanilla between sweeps.
Amy felt a rush of anger go through her. "Because Sonic hates me. So I've resolved to leave."
Vanilla felt distressed. Amy was a good girl and she most always knew what to do. But now, she was leaving town, barely a smart choice to make. Didn't she realize that everyone would miss her? Vanilla knew that eventually Sonic would be the one feeling the most guilty, for he had been the reason Amy wanted to leave in the first place. "For heaven's sake...Why can't you just work it out?" Vanilla asked.
"Because! When there's a guy you like, you just can't talk to him that way! You can't say, 'You better say sorry and I'll forgive you', because then they think you're dorky and they don't like you! Don't you understand?" Amy's feelings rushed out.
Vanilla's eyes widened in surprise. "Perhaps you don't realize that Sonic is your friend. You don't have to ask him to say sorry, if you just talk to him again after this situation, then he'll be able to know that you've forgiven him."
"I don't want to forgive him, I want him to feel extremely guilty for the rest of his life!" Amy was standing up now.
Vanilla sighed. She knew there was no reasoning in this girl. She would just have to let Amy learn the hard way. "Farewell, then, Amy. If that's your goal, then I suppose that should work." Amy dashed out the door, satisfied with what she thought was Vanilla's approval.
Vanilla sighed once again. Amy had chosen a path that was terribly wrong.
(A/N: Ah yes, conflict resolution is dorky and will make boys not like you so the better alternative is to just skip town. Silly author. Oh well, it moves the plot along! Tune in next week for more...)
