Labor of Love
Ayanami subjected Eve with many menial tasks like getting a certain book, delivering a message or perhaps serving him a cup of coffee. Whatever those tasks may be, Eve performed them dutifully and faithfully and with a smile on her face.
She smiled and waited while Ayanami gives her her next orders which involve grocery shopping outside of the base. She wrote down the ingredients he would dictate and when she asked why, he answered that this is Kuroyuri's suggestion. She accepted the task.
She purchased the ingredients in one of the districts and gave them to Ayanami who informed her to give them to Kuroyuri. Turns out, Kuroyuri wanted to have a simple tea time with her. Kuroyuri droned on Ayanami letting her kill the first person who dared disrespect him by spitting on his boots and Eve just listened to Kuroyuri's rather psychotic stories. Kuroyuri admitted to her that they liked her since not many people survived being in Ayanami's employ for so long and Eve humbly said that she will try her best to make sure Kuroyuri's opinion stays that way.
Aside from that one moment, it would seem that Ayanami trusted Eve to report to him and snitch on Hyuuga, about his paperwork...giving the latter more than one punishment.
One time Hyuuga had Eve photocopy his work but it took Eve three weeks to do so...
"Hey Eve, you got my papers? Nice, but why did it take you three weeks to photocopy them?" Hyuuga asked her.
"Wait, did you say photocopy? I copied them all by hand." Eve said in realization, Hyuuga's eyes widened at that and paled.
Needless to say, he was on the receiving end of Ayanami's punishment but at least Ayanami was considerate enough to have Eve turn around before a crunch sound is heard.
Eve's rather menial duties extend to cleaning Ayanami's office and being very careful with his stuff. Something Eve did with efficiency and not complaining even once.
He did arrive and saw his office as if it was brand new, not a speck of dust remained.
"Eve, I'm assuming that you have cleaned my office while I am gone?" Ayanami asked.
"Yes, sir."
"I can admit that you have done well." Ayanami praised. "And if I remembered correctly, you never complained even once. You have done your duty well and thus I am permitting you rest."
"Thank you sir." Eve bowed and left his office.
After a well deserved hour of rest in a couch, Eve was called to Ayanami's office again.
"Eve, tell Hyuuga when you see him to come to my office. There's a matter I wish to discuss in private with him." Ayanami ordered without preamble.
"Yes, sir."
She found Hyuuga where he mused. "Ayanami wants to speak to me? It's about this Teito Klein fellow I'm guessing. All right Eve, lead the way."
She escorted him to Ayanami's office where she gently tells her superior. "Here is Hyuuga as you ordered sir, I hope that you don't mind that I'll lock the door on my way out."
"That will be best. Thank you." Ayanami said and she bowed and left, locking the door behind her.
And then that one time, while Ayanami was listening to the report Katsuragi explained regarding the latest cadet tests and one Shuri Oak. Eve was behind him as she gently took his military cap off and massaged his head. If Ayanami noticed it, he didn't say anything as he allowed her to massage his head. She gently placed his cap back to his head.
Katsuragi noticed that Eve took one of Ayanami's arms and stretched it. A crack is heard and Ayanami grunted. Seeing his puzzled look Ayanami explained. "She merely just stretched my arms. Continue your report."
Katsuragi explained. "Shuri Oak has been recommended to the Black Hawks. May I ask what your opinion is about him?"
Ayanami just leaned back. "That garbage."
Katsuragi replied. "I see." Having heard enough.
"You are dismissed Katsuragi." Ayanami ordered and Katsuragi nodded then left the office.
Eve walked to his field of view and he noticed the cup of coffee she gently laid on his table. She said. "I have seen Shuri Oak and how he behaves sir. While I am honestly not sure if he is a good candidate for the Black Hawks, I believe he is to be given a chance to prove himself."
"Very well but if he proves his results to be disappointing, he will not be permitted to join a second time." Ayanami replied firmly.
He handed his cup back to her and she took it to be cleaned. Ayanami watched her leave and shut the door.
