Chapter 2: A Confrontation Over a Mysterious Object

As the craft drew near, Sonic called out, "Yo! It looks like a rotten egg has escaped its carton!"

"Sonic, your petty insults will not deter me from what I'm going to do next," Eggman rebutted.

"What'cha gonna do with that egg, Eggman?"

Eggman pondered for a moment. "Not sure. I just saw it descend from the clouds, and I rushed to see what it was. Just this large egg."

Sonic glanced at Tails. "Quick talk, bro-to-bro."

Eggman awkwardly waited in his hovercraft while Sonic and Tails held a private conversation.

"So, what do you think Eggman's scheme is that involves that egg over there?"

"I'm not sure Sonic. He seems just as perplexed as we are about the egg."

"But what if it is a trap? What if it is a new robot that he is going to make attack us?"

"Why would he put it in an egg? He has never done that before."

"Duh, his name is Eggman!"

"Will you two hurry up over there?"

The two friends glare at Eggman, and then continue their secret discussion.

"We have come to the conclusion that you did not cause this egg to fall from the sky, even though Sonic would surely try to say that you did."

"Of course, fox, why would I ever put one of my evil robots in an egg the size of a mansion? It would be too obvious! Now, can we all just peacefully study this egg."

"Sure, whatever Egghead." Sonic just had to get that last word in.

The two friends and their enemy approach the egg carefully. Eggman and Tails study the egg by taking measurements with scientific instruments, while Sonic impatiently waits nearby.

What's taking those two so long?! It's just an egg! Is there something I don't understand about this egg? Sonic thinks to himself.

Indeed, you do, my friend, an unknown voice replied.

Who said that? Sonic asks, but no reply is given.

"Sonic, it has only been ten minutes," Tails replied after Sonic had asked him how long they have been here for.

"Just go and run over some hills or other things you do," Eggman added to the conversation without the approval of anyone.

"Fine."

Sonic ran away from the group a good five miles, then turned around and ran up a hill. He calculated a fun trajectory in his head. If I bounce off that hill up ahead, and angle my body just right, I can bound off the top of that egg.

Sonic ran up the hill, bounced off the top of that hill, and bounded off the top of the egg. The egg shifted a little, nearly crushing Tails and Eggman.

"YOU BLUE RAT," Eggman yelled, "YOU COULD HAVE GOTTEN US KILLED?!"

"I think we have other matters to worry about," replied Tails, pointing to the top of the egg, which had a crack in it.

The egg was cracking open. Did Sonic cause it, or was it something else? The question remained unanswered, as six eyes were gazing at the incredibly large egg cracking in two, about to unleash something terrifying.
