One Month Later
Bubbles opened the door to Buttercups room to see her sister furiously trying to finish the homework assignments she forgot to do. She held up her finger, preventing Bubbles from speaking.
"I'm almost done. Just two more problems and I'll be finished." Buttercup said.
"Fine, but you're lucky Blossom left earlier." Bubbles said as she closed the door.
She made her way downstairs, trying to think of what to do to pass the time. She ended up deciding to check on the Professor, and made her way to his basement laboratory.
"Professor?" She called out when she reached the bottom of the stairs and didn't see him at his desk.
"I'm in here." He called out from inside the training room.
Bubbles walked into the training room to see that the Professor had programed it to create and incredibly large table. The entire table was covered in papers and charts. She saw the Professor standing on the other end of the table, scratching his chin in thought.
"What's all this?" she asked.
"A colleague of mine has been doing research on latent engeries in the atmosphere and got stumped. He asked me to take a look at the data he's found, to see if I could think of anything." He said without looking up.
"Any luck?"
"No. I'm just as stumped as him."
"Could it be us? We do leave those trails of light when we fly."
"No. The energy you emit fades and disappears with the light. This is something different. It's all over Townsville, but doesn't go beyond the city." He answered as he picked up and re-examined a piece of paper.
"Bubbles?" Buttercup yelled from upstairs.
"Gotta go, Professor. Love you." She said giving him a kiss on the cheek before heading up.
"What were you and the Professor talking about?" Buttercup asked as they flew to school.
"He was looking at his colleague's data." She replied.
Bubbles didn't bother going into detail because she knew that Buttercup had already stopped listening. The two were barely able to make it to their fist class on time and they both prayed that Blossom didn't find out.
The day, for the girls, was going as it normally did, until halfway though their second to last class of the day. It didn't matter where anyone in Townsville was, or what they were doing, they all stopped to see what was happening. The entire sky was changing colors to every color there is. As soon as the sky returned to normal, there were three loud BOOMs that were quickly followed by the ground shaking.
All three of the girl's phone rang, a special ring tone that told them it was their hotline. Bubbles answered her phone and heard Blossom already talking to the Mayor. Instead of listening, Bubbles made her way to their school meeting spot, basically just floating above the school. She wasn't surprised to see that Buttercup was already there. The two of them didn't have to wait long for blossom to join them.
"The Mayor wants us to investigate what that phenomenon and loud boom were. Let's each pick a direction and begin searching." Blossom ordered.
The girls took of in different directions and began searching the city for anything unusual. Besides a large number of fender benders, Bubbles hadn't spotted anything out of the ordinary. She was moving father and farther from Townsville and was about to head back when she spotted something in the distance. When she got closer, she noticed that there were three large craters in what used to be a grassy plain. Bubbles pulled out her phone and called her sisters.
When they arrived, Blossom asked, "What have you got?"
"Three large craters, most likely the source of the booms. Two of them are exactly alike with nothing at the bottom or underground. The last one has blood in it. A lot of blood, but i haven't been able to find a body of any kind."
While she was explaining what she had found, her sisters began investigating themselves. Bubbles knew that they weren't thinking about what they were doing, but she was a bit hurt that they weren't taking her seriously.
Blossom ignored the two identical craters and focus on the one with the blood. After getting a closer look, Blossom scooped up some of the blood and placed it in a container she must have picked up on er way here. Buttercup was busy searching the surroundings for anything else out of place, but had no luck.
"Let's get the Professor to take a look at this. Maybe he can tell us what it comes from." Blossom said as she held up the container and began to lift off the ground.
As the girls were making their way home, they tried to come up with theories about what was going on. Their talking stopped when they noticed that there was smoke coming from their neighborhood. Without coordinating, they picked up the pace. They were shocked to see that the smoke was coming from their house, the defense system to be exact.
When boys started asking out the girls, the Professor went a little crazy and created the defense system, but the girls prefer to think of it as a death trap. The number of boys asking them out dropped instantly as word of the defense system got around. That didn't mean there weren't brave boys who tried, but they only ever tried once.
The girls landed on the remains of te front lawn and saw that the front door was busted open.
"Something actually made it through." Buttercup said in a soft voice, with surprise on her face.
"Professor!" Blossom yelled, bringing them back to reality.
The girls rushed into their house and searched head and toe for the Professor. They didn't find him, but they did notice even more defenses inside the house that they never knew about.
"Down here!" Bubbles yelled from the basement.
When Blossom and Buttercup got downstairs, they saw Bubbles standing infront of the panic room. The bank vault like door was ripped off it's hinges and on the other side of the room. The realisation of what that meant struck them like lighning. The Professor was taken from them.
Blossom moved first, to the computer system in the panic room. She starting bringing up the security footage from when the sky phenomenon occured. She began fast forwarding as their hotlines began to ring. Buttercup rejected the call on all of their phones, opting to focus on finding the Professor.
"Got it." Blossom said, getting her sister's attention. "Well, some of it. the Professor must have forgotten to re-connect eh cameras in the yard and the basement."
Blossom hit the play button and the security footage of the living room began playing. The Professor was standing by the window with a look of shock on his face. The girls couldn't see outside, but the light from explosions coming through the window told them that the defese system was active. The Professor suddenly ran towards the basement stairs and made it just before the front door was blown away and the inside of the house turned into chaos.
Bubbles couldn't put a finger on it, but she notice that there was something off about the colors of the chaos. When the chaos on the screen died down, their hotline rang again. This time Bubbles answered the phone, but never brought it up to her ear because of what she saw on the screen. As the dust and dirt settled, a deep blue streak of light flew out of the basement and out the broken front door. The girls were in such shock that it took them a moment to hear the Mayor yelling from Bubbles phone.
"I REPEAT. THE ROWDYRUFF BOYS ARE BACK!"
