Chapter Two
Edward Pov
I wander back to the spot my dear little child was found, and spot a black box, laying under a willow tree in the snow. Upon opening it, there is a beautiful silver locket, and a birth certificate. I read the paper, and love the name given to her. Isabella Marie Swan. It means beautiful swan in french. Something this little girl matches perfectly.
Her parents are Charlie and Renee Swan, and they live in Forks Washington. Her birthdate is...September thirteenth, 1987. That's today. She's just hours old. That poor little girl. Who would leave an innocent child in the woods all on her own? There's also a small letter in the box. I unfold that paper and read the note.
It says, To whoever might find our beloved little Isabella. Please take care of our girl, and we will most certainly find our daughter again. We are not nearly stable enough to keep her now, but when the time comes we will take our child back, so do not get attached to her, for the law says she is ours, and that birth certificate only proves it. Until then I remain, Renee Swan.
I smirk. It's too late not to get attached, Isabella is such a sweet thing, even if she can't do anything for herself, she doesn't deserve that. I gently tuck the note and birth certificate back into the small black box, and push it into my pocket. I'll show it to her when she's older, but not yet. She's way too young to understand.
I turn around and run back to the Denali house. When I get back inside, Tanya's waiting for me, and sweet little Isabella is in her arms again. She laughs when she sees me, making me smile. Her bright eyes are a beautiful, chocolate brown, and she has fair skin, and I know she will easily sunburn when she grows older.
I take the girl in my arms and she cuddles her head into the crook of my neck, her warm, soft skin, burning into my, much icier skin. I move to sit down and attempt to get a small fire going in the fireplace that is literally never used. It sparks to life quickly and Isabella holds her hands out, almost as if to touch the flames. I put an arm in front of her to stop her from falling in. Then I notice what she was put in. It's a long sleeved sweater that Rosalie obviously got for her, and black leggings.
Rose stands behind me and smiles down at the little girl. She knows that I've already grown attached to her, and know I have absolutely no intentions of giving her up.
I spoke with Alice about the girl, she thinks Carlisle will let you keep her, as she has nowhere else to go. Rose thinks, joy filling her eyes. I smile, praying that Alice is right. Isabella is precious, and I really don't want to lose her.
" Isabella. Her name is Isabella." I say. Isabella laughs again, her small body shaking with the sound. Rose sends me a surprised look. Her golden eyes solidify as she gazes at the little girl laughing at everything.
You already named her?! We might have to give her away, you fool! Do you want to get attached and only to have your heart broken? Rose hisses. I roll my eyes and hand her the box I'd found out in the woods. Rosalie looks at the contents of it, and if she could cry, I know she would. This is child abandonment, and horribly illegal.
Ok, fuck this bitch. That little girl shouldn't be treated like that, and if Carlisle needs anymore persuasion, which I highly doubt he will, we can show him this. Rose growls. I smirk, knowing that she loves this little girl with all her heart and soul. We both do, and I pray to whatever god is up there, that this darling child is never taken away from me.
