Alright. To those who have commented and favorited this story, thank you so much! Even if you only read these and then move on, I still appreciate it! Now then, I rated this story T for a reason. The first chapter hasn't done anything to really deserve that rating, but this one will. So, this is your last chance to back out if you shouldn't be here. As a side note, the Serval in this chapter doesn't have a name and is usually referred to on the Lion Guard Wiki as, "Male Serval." That doesn't work for me. He isn't an OC. I just gave an already existing character that doesn't have a proper name something to call him by. Don't expect more of these frequent updates. After the weekend things will most likely slow down. With all of this out of the way, enjoy this next chapter!
As the Lion Guard was heading towards the Chekundu Cliffs, Bunga asked Ono, "Hey Ono, where were you when we were dealing with the zebras?" The egret continued flapping his wings as he flies, though he turned towards Bunga and said, "I was looking around the rest of the Pride Lands." With a short nod of acknowledgment, Bunga went back to bounding along. The Guard soon arrived at the Chekundu Cliffs. The area was much different in the Dry Season. There was no longer any of the usual mud you would see in the Wet Season, and the oryx herd was nowhere nearby. Another noteworthy fact was the tall, yellow, and dry grass in the area. Coincidentally, the dry grass was just tall enough to hide a hyena, monitor lizard, or crocodile. And the Guard could hear the panicked cries of the hyrax, along with the sound of rustling grass as it ran, and whatever was chasing it followed. Ono flew up high to try and get a better look. Kion turned to look upwards and called to the egret, "Ono, you see anything?" The egret flew back down after a few seconds and landed on Beshte's back. "Sorry, Kion. I couldn't see exactly what's chasing the hyrax. The grass is tall enough to completely cover it from the air." Just as Kion started to give out orders to flush out whatever was in the grass and save the hyrax, the hyrax bounded out of the tall grass. But before anyone in the Guard could react to what would come next, it was already too late for the hyrax...
A serval pounced out of the tall grass behind the hyrax. His olive-green eyes looked down at the hyrax as he picked up the screeching mammal. With one quick crunch of his jaw, the hyrax stopped screeching, and the metallic smell of blood filled the air. The serval dropped the now lifeless hyrax to the ground, his teeth and muzzle now stained crimson red. The hyrax's fur was also stained in the red liquid as blood began to pool around it. The Guard could only watch in shock. The serval then noticed the Guard. "Oh. Hello Lion Guard. What are you doing here?" Bunga nearly yelled in anger, "Y-... You killed that hyrax." The serval looked down at his kill, and then back at Bunga. "Yes. That's kinda obvious." Kion then asks the serval, "Mfupi, what are you doing here?" Mfupi replies, "I was hunting. And for once, I actually caught a hyrax. Now then, I am going to eat my well-deserved meal before any scavengers show up." Mfupi then turns around and picks up the hyrax in his jaws as blood drips down from the body, staining the dirt beneath him. Bunga then leaps towards Mfupi, knocking the serval to the ground and making him drop his kill, which falls to the side nearby. Mfupi instantly becomes worried and stammers, "B-... Bunga, what are you doing?" Behind the honey badger, Kion cautiously says, "Bunga, get off of Mfupi. He hasn't done anything wrong." Bunga retorts, "He killed the hyrax! He's no better than Janja or any of the others!" Mfupi speaks up again, though fear is noticeable in his voice, "Bunga. Please, I was just getting myself some food. There's no harm in that, right?" Fuli walks over and pulls Bunga off of Mfupi. Once Bunga is back with the rest of the Guard, Mfupi stands up. Kion turns to the serval and says, "Sorry, Mfupi. This is the first time we've had to deal with... a situation like this." Mfupi picks up the hyrax again and says in a muffled voice, "Apology accepted. Now I'm going to eat." With that Mfupi walks away, leaving behind a bloody mess where he caught the hyrax and the Lion Guard.
The rest of the Patrol was finished quickly, with no new attacks from Scar's Army or any other trouble with the Pridelanders. The Guard was resting in their lair, with Beshte staying cool in the pool of water. Ono is resting on top of Beshte's back. Fuli and Bunga are resting on some rocks nearby, talking. Kion is also resting on a different rock, though it looks like he's trying to sleep. As the conversation between Bunga and Fuli goes on, Bunga inevitably brings up the topic of the events that transpired earlier that day at Chekundu Cliffs. The rest of the Guard was uncomfortably avoiding talking about that. Until now, at least. Fuli says, "Look, Bunga. I know it may not be the best, but it's part of the Circle of Life. Us carnivores and omnivores can and will hunt and eat meat. It's like Mfupi said. He didn't do anything wrong. He was just getting himself food. It just so happened to be a hyrax. Ono says, "Fuli's right. It's common knowledge, really." Beshte joins in on the conversation. "I think we were lucky to only have dealt with this one time so far. I eat plants. Little B and Ono eat insects. And Kion and Fuli are carnivores. All we can do is hope that we don't get many more of those situations." Kion grumbled in his sleep, turning over to face another direction. As the sun began to set over the Pride Lands, one by one the rest of the Guard said their goodbyes and left for the night, leaving Kion the only one left in the lair, as the cub slept after an eventful day.
