"Shira..."
Said girl frowned down at her feet as she used the last bit of her inhaler, avoiding the eyes of her Grandmother. Sighing, she tossed the now empty inhaler aside, mentally reminding herself that it would need a refill before standing.
"I'm sorry, Nana," She said, before looking up determinedly. "But I have to strengthen my quirk! How else-"
"By not worsening your asthma! I can't refill these pumps every day, Sweetie, it's not cheap. And you need to realize," Nana sadly smiled, rubbing the teens shoulders. "You aren't like everyone else with a quirk, Shira.."
Shira sighed, shoulders deflating. She knew that her grandmother was right, while most quirk users drawbacks only kicked in after overuse of their quirk, hers is permanent.
Her quirk, 'Incineration' allows its user to blow out gunpowder from their mouth. Whatever is caught within range of the gunpowder, once the user clicks their teeth together, the powder ignites, resulting in a firey explosion, burning whatever was inside the range of the powder.
The only downside of this quirk is that the gunpowder slowly fills up the user's left lung, which could result in Pulmonary Edema if untreated. To prevent this, the user must expell the excess of powder on a bi- daily basis.
Overuse of this quirk also results in shortness of breathe, hence the asthma pump.
Nana sighed, rubbing her dear granddaughter on the back. She also hated Endeavor, wishing there was more she could've done for her family. Her husband had died not soon after Rei's first child, Touya had been born, but she lnew he regretted giving away their daughter so soon, even if he never dared say it.
They had made a mistake with Rei, but she'd be damned if she made the same mistake twice.
"Are you sure you want to attend U.A. of all schools?" Nana asked wearily, running her hand through her grand daughter's newly short hair.
Her hair that once reached her knees now barely brushed her shoulders. She had cut it as a means of not only leaving her past behind, but as less of a fire hazard for when she's quirk training.
Shira sighed, walking into the house. Nana followed along before she spoke. "Of course im sure. The biggest hero school in the world? Why wouldn't I?" She laughed, grabbing a bottled water from thr fridge. She avoided the knowing gaze of her Grandmother, who was leaning into the door frame listening intently.
"You don't trust heros, Shira."
Ignoring her statement, Shira set off towards the front door. She heard her Nana sigh, not looking back as she opened the door but pausing at her next words. "I just don't want you to end up like her...".
Stiffening at the shoulders, Shira whispered over her shoulder, "I won't.", before shutting the door behind herself.
Walking down the busy Tokyo streets, she slipped her hoodie over her head and stuffed her hands in her pockets, the wind slightly chilling. In the near distance, she could see a U.A. billboard, All Might grinning brightly as he pointed forwards- towards her.
"U.A needs heros like YOU. Give it your all, Plus Ultra!"
The entrance exams were in 10 months, and for the past 5 she had been attempting to push herself to her limits. There was no telling what the exam was supposed to be, but due to the limited nature of her quirk, she hoped it was rescue. She was better off incinerating debris than fighting someone 1 on 1. Shira knew her quirk could be fatal if used incorrectly.
So deep in thought, she accidentally bumped into a hard body. Hands grasped at her upper arms, jerking her back. Glancing up to apologize, her words found themselves stuck as she locked eyes with them. As heterochromic eyes met firey blue, she suddenly felt ...unease.
He too had a hoodie on, but his black tuffs peaked from under the fabric. He was tall and slender, maybe a foot or so taller, but what made her stomach twist was the sickening sight of the rotted dead skin stitched under his eyes, around his mouth all the way up to his ears and continuing under the neckline of his jacket. Slowly looking down at the hands grasping at her, she could see that his hands, up to his knuckles, were also covered in the purple dead skin.
Holding back a shiver, she hesitantly looked back up, but too afraid to make eye contact. A terrible stench hit her nose and it took everything in her not to let it show on her face.
Run, Run, Run!
"E-excuse me... I'm sorry for bumping into you." She quickly took two steps back, bowing at a 90 angle before hurridly passing him, holding her breathe.
Once she got a good amount of steps away, she glanced behind her, only to tense when she saw he wasnt there anymore. She quickly looked around, seeing nothing but random people going about their day. Shoving the weird encounter in the back of her mind, she continued on to her destination, watching her step this time.
A few minutes later, she walked into the familiar building, tugging her hood over her face a bit lower. After going through the usual process, she made her way upstairs. She greeted the staff, used to seeing them every week. Once she reached her stop, she pulled down her hood before knocking softly on the marked door.
"Come in."
Biting her lip, she silently exhaled before opening the door, letting a bright smile invade her face.
"Hi Mom."

"And you don't know who left them?" Shira asked curiously, staring at the vased flowers in her mother's hands.
"No, the hospital staff just says that it was left outside by the front doors addressed to me." Rei said softly, gazing at the blue flowers. "This isn't the first time, but I wish I knew who it was from..."
Shira hummed, sipping on a cup of tea her mother offered as usual. "Do you know what kind of flower they are?"
"Forget-Me-Nots." Rei smiled sadly, sitting the vase down softly on her window sill. "Every single time."
Shira didn't say anything in response, letting the comfortable silence fill the room as they both stared at the flowers. The television played in the background, reports of a villian attack in Musutafu according to the news. Shira had faintly tuned in before her mother's words snapped her out of it.
"I think they're from your father."
Shira tensed, eyes snapping from the TV to her mother rigidly. "That's ridiculous." She gritted out, hands tightening on her mug.
"Who else could it be?" Rei asked softly, watching her daughter with calm gray eyes. Shira avoided her gaze, glaring to her left.
"Anyone but him." She said quietly, sipping on her now slightly- cool tea again. Rei said nothing, still watching her daughter. Shira lowered her mug slowly, biting her lip.
"Has... has Fathe- I mean, has Endeavor... ever asked about me? Since then?"
There it is, Rei thought as she took in her daughters stiff form. For as long as Shira and her mother have visited her since her admittance, she's never once asked about her father, nor her twin.
She knew Shira saw Natsuo every couple of months, hardly, due to his college classes. Fuyumi stops by Nana's house as well, whenever she can to visit, although she still lives in Musutafu with Endeavor and Shoto.
Rei considered lying, but knew that would do no good. "Im afraid not sweetie. I haven't talked to him in years..." Rei admitted softly, heart breaking at the quick glimpse of sadness in her daughter's eyes before they hardened emotionlessly.
"Of course not." She whispered quietly, drinking the rest of her tea before standing. She sat the mug in the dishwasher, before walking over to her mother.
Rei stood, grasping her daughters shoulders softly. Shira shivered at the familiar contact, briefly reminded of the strange encounter she had before arriving, before being engulfed in her mother's cold yet warming embrace.
Shira sighed, wrapping her arms around her as Rei sat her chin atop her youngest child's head. "I'm so proud of you." Rei breathed out, running her hands thru Shira's short hair.
"For what?" Shira said, voice muffled into Rei's shirt.
"Your Nana told me you want to attend U.A."
Shira gasped, leaning back a bit to make eye contact. "She called you?!"
"Just before you got here." Rei mused, eyes twinking in mischief.
The twin groaned, stuffing her face back into her mom's shirt. Rei's laughter filled the room at her daughter's reaction, making the nurses passing by outside the door stop to peek inside thru the door window in shock.
"Was...was that Mrs. Todoroki?!"
"Mommmmm," Shira whined, arms dropping at her side. "Stopppppppp."
Rei released the pouting girl, raising her hands defensively. "Okay, okay," She chuckled, tucking a stray hair behind Shira's ear. "I'll stop, but... I really am proud of you, my precious Yuki." She smiled warmly.
Shira felt tears well up in her eyes at the long- lost nickname, sucking in her bottom lip as she looked down. "I'm gonna be a better hero than him."
"I know."
"And I'm gonna get you out of here."
"I know."
She squeezed her eyes shut to stop her tears from falling. "And I'm gonna make you even prouder." Shira's fist tightened. "I-I promise!"
Her eyes opened at the touch of a hand caressing her cheek, wiping her stray tears. She was met with Rei's own tearful eyes, but despite that, her warm smile never wavered.
"I'll always believe in you, my Yuki."

It was dark by the time she made it home. Walking inside the house, Shira noticed her Nana sleeping on the couch, with her glasses on, and papers littered on the table.
The twin smiled softly, hanging up her jacket and slipping on her house shoes before walking over to her grandmother, pulling a quilt over her peaceful form. She gently took off her glasses and folded them, sitting them onto the table before her eyes caught sight of the papers beside them.
They were official personal information documents, completely filled out and ready to be sent thru mail. Her grandmother had signed every required line.
They were her U.A registration papers. Beside them was her inhaler, refilled and ready for use.
The girl bit her lip, tears threatening to appear again. She took a few breaths before leaning over to her Nana, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
"Thank you, Nana. I'll make you proud." She silently whispered, before gathering the items. She quickly took the papers to her room, before walking out the back door, shutting it behind her. If she wanted to pass the entrance exams in 10 months, she didn't need to waste any time she could use to train.
Unbeknownst to her, her Nana smiled to herself from inside.
I know you will, Shira.

And, scene.
Entrance exam next chapter, wonder who all we'll see? Also, side note, Yuki means snow in japanese (refering to her hair color).
