Ch. 2: A Brother's Interruption and Salvaging the Evening

written 4/8/21

"Well Silver, what do you say?" inquired Red. "Shall we continue our stroll around Bird Island?" "Sounds like a plan." replied Silver in agreement. Unknown to both of them

Chuck was watching them on their stroll and keeping his distance. After five minutes of walking in silence Red decided to break it. "So Silver would you say we're friends?" he

asked. "I mean I consider you my friend and definitely my teammate." Silver let loose a slight chuckle. Then she heard a sigh from Red. "What's wrong?" she asked. "Oh it

was me thinking that you didn't like me in the same way." Red replied. "No, no, no, of course I think of you in the same way." explained Silver. "It's just the way you put it

was so sweet and adorable." Then out of nowhere Chuck appeared. "What are you doing with my sister?" he asked Red in his speedy voice. "Nothing except talking while

taking a stroll around the island." answered Red who was taken back by his friend's accusation. "Yeah right!" cried Chuck. "Then tell me why I heard the two words sweet and

adorable exchanged between the two of you?" Silver came up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. "Uh, Chuck that was me, your sister." she said. "Oh, then why did I

hear the words sweet and adorable?" Chuck inquired. "It was me explaining to Red why I chuckled when he said that he thought of me as his friend and teammate which I

still think is an adorable way to ask someone of how they feel about the other." explained Silver annoyed with her brother's accusations. "So just chill out!" "Alright, I'm sorry

you guys." replied Chuck. Then he turned to Red. "I really am sorry Red, but you got to understand I'm just looking out for my sister." "I understand." said Red. "You're doing

the big brother thing, making sure your little sister is always happy." "Thank you for understanding." replied Chuck nicely. Then his look turned back to a mild sense of

seriousness. "However do you remember what I said to you about my sister last time just before we all met her for the first time?" "No remind me." replied Red. "Ok I said

you're absolutely gonna love her, but don't love her too much, that's my sister, or I'll break every bone in your body." said Chuck. Red went wide eyed. "Ok Chuck." said Red.

"Thanks for creeping me out." "Just wanted us to have a solid grasp of consequences." said Chuck. "Well see you later." Then he turned to Silver. "Night sis." he said. "Good

night brother." With that he sped off into the night. "Well I guess that spoiled our walk together." said Red. "I don't know maybe we can salvage the evening." suggested

Silver. "Alright, what do you want to do to salvage the rest of the evening?" asked Red. "Well, how about we walk for a little bit longer, and then go get a bite." proposed

Silver. "Okay sounds fun." answered Red. "I'm all for that plan." The two birds walked around Bird Island for about ten more minutes and then they turned around and headed

back to the village. Once they arrived back at the village Silver turned to face Red. "Where shall we get a bite at?" she asked. "Well this was your idea Silver so you decide."

replied Red. "Well how about we try the Ice Cream Cafe." suggested Silver. "That sounds like a delicious suggestion." replied Red with a light laugh. Then Silver walked side by

side with Red and before she knew it they were holding wings. "Hey Silver, when did you learn to sing operas?" asked Red. "I don't know what you're talking about." she

stated. "You don't remember singing that opera song to me?" inquired Red. "You and Chuck sang to me in the submarine on our way to Eagle Island." "Oh yeah." said Silver

with a chuckle. "We were just having fun." "Ha, ha, very funny." said Red sarcastically. They arrived at the entrance of the Ice Cream Cafe to find there was no line, but as

was the policy they had to wait to be seated. Only a few minutes later a yellow bird host came up to seat them. "Oh my god Red and Silver the main brains behind the island

saving operation." he said wide-eyed. "Hold on let's find you a really good table." Then he led them to a table with a booth. "Here you go." he said. "It's one of the best tables

in the house." "Thank you." said Red and Silver together. "You two are most welcome." replied their host. "Your waiter will be along shortly. Then he took his leave. Red

looked at Silver and made a gesture toward the booth. "Well, after you." he said. "Thanks Red." answered Silver. "You're so polite." "You're welcome." replied Red sitting down

across from her. "I've been working on my manners." "Nice display of improvement." said Silver with a chuckle. "What a gentlebird." They picked up their menus and began

browsing. "I think I'll have the Rainbow Sherbet Milkshake." said Silver. "Cool." said Red. I'm going to get that as well." Just then their waiter, who was a blue bird, showed

up. "Alright." he began. "What can I get you two?" "Two Rainbow Sherbet Milkshakes please." answered Red. "Alright, anything else?" asked the waiter. "No thank you."

replied Silver. "That'll be it." "Okay coming right up." said the waiter and then he took his leave. Both Silver and Red were sharing a small silence, and then Red decided to

break it. "So Silver tell me, what's it like being a professor at the Avian Academy." he inquired. "Well honestly it's not all that exciting." replied Silver. "What do you mean?"

asked Red. "Well on the upside you get to assign homework and run the lesson." began Silver. Then she sighed. "But the downside is you can't force the students to listen to

you and sometimes they disrespect you by blurting condescending remarks or just falling asleep during the lecture." "That's horrible." said Red who now felt sorry for her.

Silver gave a sniffle and wiped a tear from her eye. Just then the waiter came back with their milkshakes. "Here you go." he said as he put down one milkshake in front of

Silver and the other in front of Red. "Enjoy." "Thank you." replied Red as waiter took his leave once again. Then Red turned his attention back to Silver who had just started

on her milkshake. "Well Silver, what do you think?" Red asked. "It's really good." she said now feeling slightly better. "It's making me feel better about my situation. "I'm

happy to hear that." Red replied. The two of them finished their milkshakes and then departed from the cafe. "Red will you walk me home?" inquired Silver. "Sure, still need

emotional support after venting I'm guessing?" asked Red. "Yes, but I'm happier when I have a friend with me." Silver added. "Alright I'm here for you." said Red. Silver

began the walk back to her home with Red right beside her. Once they got to Silver's front door, Silver turned and faced Red. "Thank you for walking me home Red." she said.

"You're welcome and remember I'll always be here if you need someone to talk to." he replied. Then Silver pulled Red in for a brief kiss. "Thank you Red!" she cried with tears

of happiness. Red blushed. "Well I better be getting home." he said. "I'll see you later, Silver." He then leaned in and gave her a peck on the cheek. Silver blushed in response.

Red turned around and began his long walk home.
