NOTE: Damn, been a minute hasn't it? Yeah, I got so focused on other stories and forgot about this one. But hey, now I got bored of the other stories and will continue working on this!

...

New York, 2032

The punching bag flew off the tree as Devron threw his right fist into it. The monster smiled, letting out a grunt of satisfaction at his work. Laying beside the punching bag were almost a dozen others that Devron had gone to work on.

Devrons smile vanished and he grumbled. He was getting bored. He couldn't stop thinking about that first mission. How he snapped those humans like twigs. It was a power trip for sure, and punching bags couldn't compare. Now the cat found himself eagerly awaiting his next assignment.

He let out a sigh, and was about to go back inside when he heard a stick snap behind him. He spun around, scanning the entrance of the forest. Devron squinted and focused on a shape in the distance.

He could see it now, but very faintly. It was the same skeleton like creature. And it was waving.

"Devron."

Devron spun around to see Captain Lindsey standing a few feet away from him. Devron sighed before fixing his attention to the human.

"Yes?"

Lindsey cleated her throat and spoke. "You will be joining me and my Company to a base in Iran. Orders are coming from Elliot if you are wondering."

Devron smiled devilishly, which caused Lindsey to raise an eyebrow.

...

The helicopter ride was long and uneventful for the most part. Most of the humans ended up sleeping and the ones who didn't annoying fiddled with their dog tags.

As they entered into what was once Iranian airspace, Devron took the time to admire the beautiful environment at display. Although war torn, the land the beautiful.

War torn, Devron knew that the humans were in a war amongst themselves. He didn't know why, nor did he care. Although it was a bit off putting to see this war was destroying the lands.

The helicopter soon landed a small base in a partially destroyed forest.

Maxwell who was happily snoring in the seat next to Lindsey, was elbowed by the Captain which jerked him awake.

He looked around and groaned, rubbing the area where he had been elbowed. The young soldier spotted Devron and smiled.

Devron was confused but nodded to the soldier before stepping out of the helicopter.

Another soldier approached them from a large building.

He stopped in front of them and saluted the Captain.

"I'm Sergeant Betson, you boys arrived just in time. We have a platoon pinned down about five klicks north by Iranian infantry. Orders from our Lieutenant Colonel say that you are to support them."

Captain Lindsey grinned. "Well boys, ready for a bit of action before we hit the sack? She asked, turning to look at her men.

A few fuck yeahs and woos were heard. Devron was slightly surprised to see how enthusiastic these soldiers were about Combat.

Lindsey looked up at Devron and asked. "How you feel about another round of ass kicking big guy?"

The question was odd, and the nickname she gave him was strange, but he understood what she was saying.

"I believe another round of 'ass kicking' would be beneficial."

Lindsey tried to hold her laughter and shook her head.

The soldiers, including Betson and the monster boarded the helicopter and they were airborne along with with other helicopters.

Maxwell, clutching his rifle tight looked out into the forest. "I cannot wait to kick some ass on their grounds. I'm gonna make em wish they never messed with us!" Maxwell enthusiastically exclaimed.

Sergeant Betson, chuckled and stroked his beard. "Yeah, well I heard last time you froze up and clung to the cat." The Sergeant remarked.

Maxwell looked down to hide his embarrassment. The other soldiers laughed. Devron, rolled his eyes.

Lindsey smiled and looked at Devron. "Yeah, the kitten over here went all Superman and grabbed him like a second before Maxwell was shot."

Devron gave a slight growl at the nickname. The soldiers simply laughed. That was slightly off putting. Not only were they willing to be friendly and around with him, but they weren't frightened of him one bit.

"Captain, we are approaching the drop zone, however I must warn you that the drop zone is hot." The pilot yelled over the sound of gunfire.

The soldiers began readying their weapons. "Take us in anyways pilot."

The helicopter doors opened and Devron could see clearly a small skirmish going on. The skirmish was in a small clearing and what was left of the U.S Forces were hiding small foxholes. Iranian troops were pushing into the clearing by the dozens.

Lindsey looked towards Devron and bit her lip. "Don't even think ab-"

Devron ignores her and jumps out of the helicopter.

An unsuspecting Iranian soldier was crushed underneath Devrons feet as he landed. Standing up from a crouched position the beast snarled and surveyed the area.

Most hadn't noticed him and the few that did stood stock still in shock. Devron let out a war cry and charged the closet soldier. By now the Iranian Forces were overcoming the shock and getting back to their senses but it wasn't enough to stop the raging beast.

Devron vertically plunged both claws into the first Soldiers chest, ignoring the screams of agony that followed. A few bullets began to pepper his armor and Devron released his claws with a growl, leaping with a snarl towards another soldier who fired desperately. Devron pounced and grabbed the soldiers head with one paw and smashed it down into the grass, leaving a puddle of blood and brain goo.

Two Soldiers fired from Devrons flank and he used two paws to form a fireball and launch it at them. Their flaming bodies flew into a large rock and fell into a mangled mess.

In quick succession, Devron cut open the stomach of a Soldier, leaving his entrails to fall out, then spun around to stab another in the head.

Devrons dance of death continued, leaving his body soaked in blood, brain matter and entrails.

The soldiers looked on in shock at the display. Lindsey huffed in annoyance and ordered the pilot to land. Every hostile was focused on the raging cat and didn't notice and dozens of reinforcements stormed through the trees.

As Devron snapped the last soldier in half he looked on to the dozens of soldiers who stared at him. He couldn't see all of their faces, but he could see a mix of respect, and disgust. He understood why they'd be disgusted and respect him at the same time. He did just save more lives, but in a bloody fashion.

"Alright back to the Choppers!" Lindsey shouted.

The women approached him, surveying the carnage. "I'm more impressed now. Not only did you just murder dozens of Iranian soldiers, but you just saved 9 lives today. You should be proud." Devron searched the Captains face for any hint that she was joking, or lying. He couldn't, she was genuine. Did she really trust him?

Devron nodded. "Thanks..." he mumbled awkwardly.

Lindsey turned around gesturing him to follow her back to the helicopter's.

Maxwell waited beside one of the helicopters for Devron. "That was fucking insane dude, you are gonna be a legend!" The young soldier exclaimed.

Devron boarded the helicopter and sighed. "I don't want to be a legend..."

Maxwell sat down next to him. "Oh come on man you could be like Captain America, a symbol of freedom!" He exclaimed enthusiastically.

Devron tilted his head to the side. "Who's Captain America?"

Maxwells goofy grin fell. "Oh that's right you don't even know what a comic book is." Maxwell in disappointment.

Devron was about to ask when Betson chimes in. "I have to say, I've heard stories of you before and your display back in the states. But damn I didn't think your work would be that impressive. You saved a lot of lives, you should be proud."

Devron blinked. Wait more people actually cared and were going to acknowledge his accomplishments?

Devron scratched the back of his neck and let out a sigh.

The helicopters landed and the soldiers made their way to the barracks, a small building made up of multiple small rooms that housed bunks for each squad.

Devron stood in the middle of the base. He didn't really know where to go, should he report to the person in charge?

He decided to go and ask Lindsey, who he saw vanish into the barracks. He walked into the barracks and walked down the halls. Every human he met seemed to give him a compliment. Was he actually respected?

Devron realized he had no idea where she was and decided to stop a random soldier who was walking by.

"Um, excuse me?" He asked as politely as he could muster.

The man stopped and looked at him. "You need something?"

Devron nodded. "Do you know where Captain Lindsey's current location is?"

The man thought for a second then nodded. "Yeah she went to the mess hall, go down this hall and take a left at the up coming intersection and it will take you right to the mess hall."

Devron let out a yawn. "Thanks..."

The man chuckled. "No problem." And he walked off.

Devron followed instruction and found himself in the mess hall. He saw Lindsey eating at a table with Maxwell and was going to go over to them when suddenly a figure stood in front of him. It was the same damn melting skeleton. And it was pointing at him.

"D-dev-" and then it vanished. It was almost as if it was trying to speak to him, but something was stopping him.

It was strange for sure, he was continuing to hallucinate. He should probably see a doctor later.

He walked over to the table and sat down next to Maxwell. The young soldier smiled. "Oh hey Devron, you hungry?"

Now that he thought about it, he was hungry, very hungry.

"Well...ye-"

Maxwell stood up. "Let's go get you some grub then!" He exclaimed.

Devron shook his head. "I have to ask the Captain a question.

Lindsey who had just finished her food raised an eyebrow at him. "You need something?"

Devron nodded. "Yes...I don't know where I'm supposed to sleep."

Lindsey chuckled and let out a sigh. "They have you in tent B16, should be next to the communications building."

Devron let out a disappointed sigh.

"Yeah buddy I know, there ain't enough Barracks here though." Lindsey said and seemed to go into thought. Then she narrowed her eyes at Maxwell.

Maxwell was watching Devron, he looked desperate to say something.

"Uh, that's kind of weird that they didn't free up a barrack for him. Command has been trying to appease him so he doesn't lash out, at least that's what they say."

Lindsey glared at him. "You idiot you aren't supposed to tell him that."

Devron looked down on the young soldier in mild amusement. "He's no ape, he probably figured out by now the only reason command is nice to him is so he doesn't kill anyone."

Maxwell then looked up at Devron.

"N-not saying you'd kill anyone by the way..." He said scratching the back of his head.

Devron smiled. "It's been obvious from the start."

Maxwell let out a sigh of relief and Lindsey rolled her eyes.

"So Captain you think he's dumb or something?" Maxwell asked with a grin as he finished up his food.

Lindsey sighed. "No I don't, I just..." She trailed off. She narrowed her eyes at him.

"Where are you going with this?" She asked.

Maxwell shrugged. "No where, just wondering."

Lindsey sighed. "If you want to know what I think. I think he's a smart, misplaced warrior that belongs in the underground"

Devron growled.

"Let me finish." Lindsey said.

"The government has weaponized you, and I bet they will find more monsters to use as killing machines. What I mean is, the fate you have is something you don't deserve. You deserve a normal life, even if it's trapped under a mountain it's gotta be better than this."

Devrons glare vanished and blinked in confusion. "Why wouldn't you want a killing machine to help you in your wars? That seems more effective than sending your own people to fight and die."

Lindsey shook her head. "It is our fault that we fight. We fight over petty disagreements, centuries old grudges that we are too dumb enough to forget. We kill without remorse, we destroy the environment, we contribute to our own extinction, If anything, our deaths will teach us a lesson and possibly unite us."

Devron was stunned at her speech. Everything she said made perfect sense, and Devron found himself a new found respect for her. At first glance she was irritable, quirky, and was kind of badass. He would never have expected her to be so deep.

Devron found himself repeating same words in his head over and over. This was how humans were; he always knew. However if humans agreed that they were like this, why didn't they settle their differences and attempt to make piece?

"I..." Devron tried to speak but didn't really know what to say.

Lindsey took a breath and continued. "Honestly, I feel bad for you...what we did to you is disgusting."

Devron blinked. She felt remorse for her fellow humans actions towards him, yet she still serves them?

Devron leaned in closer. "If you pity me and feel anger towards the ones that have done this to me then why would you serve them?" He asked.

Lindsey sighed. "Devron...if the world was all sunshine and rainbow I'd probably leave the service as soon as I found out..."She trailed, off catching his eye. He was staring at her with a bewildered look on his face.

"Something wrong?" She asked.

Devron shook his head. "N...no."

Nothing was wrong, it was just that Lindsey had just used his name. Not a fake one or a corny nickname. She was starting to use his real name now.

"There are a few reasons I still serve. One, the money. Growing up with a single mother it was hard for her to support me, so instead of going to college I went to the Army."

Devron was curious. "What happened to your father?" He asked.

Lindsey looked down at her lap and Maxwell nudged his arm. Devron looked down at the soldier to see him shaking his head.

"Don't ask her about stuff like that, she can get..." Maxwell trailed off with a sigh.

Lindsey shook her head. "It's fine Maxwell, it happened so long ago."

Lindsey then looked at Devron. "My father was killed serving in the Iraq war, not sure if you've heard of it..."

"I've heard of the conflict, though I know very little about it. Oh, and I'm sorry about your dad." Devron apologized.

"Another reason I guess was my own personal...revenge if you want to call it. I wanted to go to war, survive and make my family proud. Something my father never got to do."

The room seemed to grow quieter as the story continued.

"So, the final reason is just how fucked up the worlds become. This war has been going on 6 years and I wouldn't be surprised if a larger scale war breaks out. I...I guess I just want to have a little adventure before the world goes to shit..."

Devron shifted uncomfortably. "And...why would the world go to shit?" He asked.

Lindsey groaned at the question. "If I told you, I'd be explaining to you over a century of human history, how it's led to rising tensions, how these tensions could break out into war, blah, blah, blah."

Maxwell decided to chime in. "So um, can we not talk about world war 3 right now?"

Devron looked down at Maxwell confusion. Lindsey grinned. The boy was fidgeting uncomfortably.

"T-the topic makes me uncomfortable..."

Lindsey rolled her eyes and let out a yawn, resting her cheek on her right palm. "I really want a drink, like really badly."

Maxwell chuckled. "Maybe when this is over we can all go out for drinks!" He exclaimed.

Lindsey sighed. "Maybe..."

An awkward silence befell the trio. Devron let out a tired yawn. Food can wait, he needed to sleep.

"I am going to sleep, I will see both of you in the morning." He said and stood up.

Maxwell turned to him. "W-Wait!" The cat turned around. "Yes?"

Maxwell scratched the back of his head. "I'm kinda going to the same place as you, wanna walk and talk?"

Devron nodded, he didn't see the harm. Lindsey grinned. "He's not going anywhere near the tents, he just needs someone to talk to."

Maxwell was about to retort when Devron waved for him to follow. The two made their way outside the mess hall and out into the courtyard, the setting sun just being seen dipping over the horizon.

"So...I never properly thanked you for what you did...ya know when I was gonna get shot. Uh, thank you...I would have been a goner if it wasn't for you." Maxwell stopped and looked up at him, the genuine in his eyes showing.

Devron placed a hand on his shoulder, Maxwell shivering at the contact.

"I think I was wrong about humans, some of you aren't so bad. You especially have shown kindness to me. It is...unexpected."

Maxwell smiled. "Well I kind of have been wanting to meet you for awhile...ever since I joined up and was told that you exist, I've always wanted to meet you in person."

Devron released his hand from Maxwells shoulder. "You were that eager to meet a murder machine?" He asked.

Maxwell shrugged. "You aren't you machine, you feel things. You try to hide that sometimes but I can tell..."

Devron turned away and smiled. These humans were really making him feel weird. Was happy the term? He turned back to the young soldier. "You are right..." he said with a sigh.

The sun was all but gone and the darkness of night had begun to creep over them.

"You should get some rest, I assume we will have a long day tomorrow."

Maxwell smiled again and nodded. "I am pretty tired now that you mention sleep. I-I'll see you tomorrow!" He exclaimed and walked in the opposite direction to the barracks and said good night to Lindsey who was standing some feet from them and appeared to be watching them the entire time.

She let out a huff and walked towards Devron.

"He seems..." Devron was about to say before Lindsey finished.

"Clingy. He's clingy, I know." She said.

"Is...that a good thing?" Devron asked.

"Well depends, in this case I'd say it's a good thing..." Lindsey trailed off and chuckled.

"That kid has always had a sort of teenage girl crush on you. He's always been into monsters and their legends, and when he learned they were real...oh boy could he not wait to meet you."

Devron hummed in acknowledgement.

Lindsey then continued. "He's got little family left, I'm like a sister to him. Now he has someone else to call a companion, don't hurt him." Lindsey stepped forward and looked closely into Devron.

"Why would I harm an ally?"Devron replied.

Lindsey shook her head. "I don't mean physically, I mean emotionally. He's been through some shit, watched people die, killed people, went through high school with hardly any family and now he's here. I trust that he can handle himself, what I'm worried about his emotional state."

At this point Devron didn't know if he could keep up. He didn't know shit about human emotions and now he was having a lecture on it.

"Whatever you are to him, don't play with his heart at all. His mental state had been beaten and bruised and the only thing keeping him afloat is the team and the fact that he enjoys combat."

Devron looked past her to see Maxwell at the Barrack entrance talking to a few other squad mates.

He looked back to Lindsey and nodded. "I won't disobey an order, Captain." Devron firmly said causing Lindsey to snort in amusement at the formality.

"Go get some sleep big guy, we might have a big day on our hands tomorrow."

As soon as Devron made it to his large ass tent, he collapsed on the bed without bothering to take off his armor.

He grumbled to himself as he heard the flaps to the tent open. Devron sat up to face whoever entered to see Lindsey glaring at him. He was about to ask what he did when she gave him the answer.

"Oh, and please stop doing things that I tell you not to do. I know you are capable but orders are orders, I gotta keep you under a tight leash and I intend to do that. So please just listen to my orders...goodnight." Lindsey said before exiting.

Devron grumbled and passed out.

...

Black, it was all black. There was nothing but an empty blackness that seemed to stretch on forever. Devron was dreaming, he must be.

A growl escaped the cats lips as he spotted a familiar looking melting skeleton. Now no longer certain of this being a hallucination, Devron was angered by this being. How dare it to intrude upon his life?

"What are you!" He growled at the creature who simply tilted his head to the side.

The creature did not answer, and Devron in his fury, attempted to charge. However he had a tiny problem. He was stuck, he could not move. He propped up in a standing position, his arms at his sides.

The creature circled Devron looking him up and down. It stopped in front of him and opened its mouth wide. There were no teeth, no tongue just blackness.

The creature then spoke, its voice otherworldly not natural and it seemed to be coming from everywhere, including his head.

"Devron...you don't know who I am I assume?" It asked, taking a few strides closer.

Devron snarled at it. "I don't have the slightest idea what you are."

The creature let out a laugh, a unnatural and wrong sounding laugh. It took one more stride closer.

"Do you know how powerful you are Devron?" The creature asked.

Devron blinked in confusion. "Of course I know the extent of my powers I have been training for 16 years!" He shouted.

The creature then smirked. "You were taught how to fight, not use magic. You have yet to properly learn how to use your magic. However, that is where I come in." The creature pointed to himself.

Devron scoffed. "I don't even know what you are."

The creature nodded. "Then I shall enlighten you. I am W.D Gaster, former royal scientist. Although I doubt you even know what a royal scientist is."

"No...I don't."

W.D Gaster shook its head. "It isn't important. What is important is how I got here. You see I was working on an experiment. Well, one thing led to another and my creation consumed me. Pieces of me were scattered across time in space. This piece of me; a very large one, ended up here. And I have been drawn to your soul."

Devron listened, intrigued by the tale. "You see Devron, your soul is the soul of FEAR, one of the most powerful souls in the known universe."

Gaster paused look a look at Devrons expression, which remained in a scowl and continued.

"Your soul possess...unique qualities. Physically, you are one of the strongest monsters of this planet." Gaster explained.

"The soul of FEAR grants a user abnormal amounts of strength, speed, stamina, as well as a vast arsenal of extremely powerful magic attacks that you need in order to harness your full potential, you will need to learn how to use them."

Devron dropped the scowl and simply glared. "And how would I do that?" The monster.

However, before he got a response his eyes opened. "Rise and shine pussy cat." A voice front the tents entrance said.

Devron groaned and sat up to see Sergeant Betson with his arms crossed. "Okay you're awake, meet me at the entrance the communications post in 5. Actually make that 15, go get something to eat first."

Devron nodded and the Sergeant walked off. The cat growled as he felt the uncomfortable results of sleeping in his armor. Never the less, he ignored them and walked out of the tent.

He was pretty hungry yesterday, but sleep overcame his hunger. Now though, he was practically starving. With a groan to his stomach, he eagerly walked to the mess.

Once he arrived he found Lindsey and Maxwell sitting at the same table they had sat at previously. Maxwell was practically passed out, his head resting on the table.

Lindsey waved for him to come over and he did, sitting next to Maxwell. He looked up upon seeing Devron and his face lit up. "Oh hey Devron..."

"Likewise, I knew you wouldn't want to be in that tent for long." Lindsey said.

Devron nodded. "Uh...where do I receive my food?"

Lindsey pointed to a small line at the front of the room where a chef behind a counter was serving food.

Devron waited impatiently for a few minutes but eventually received his meal, which due to Devrons size was a larger portion than a regular Soldiers.

Devron sat back down and analyzed the meal.

A bowl of some creamy liquid thing sat in the center of the tray. On the side was a small portion of fruit and veggies and glass of milk.

Devron gobbled it down in minutes, despite it tasting less than stellar. He finished and looked down at Maxwell who let out a loud yawn.

"Why are you so tired?" Devron asked?

Maxwell looked up. "Uh, had to wake up at 3 for an early patrol, fuckers won't let me go back to sleep." He said with an annoyed groan.

Lindsey chimed in. "Well you're doing early patrols all week so I suggest so start going to sleep early instead of clinging to Devron here."

Maxwell grunted. "I don't cling to him..."

Devron scratched the back of his head and stood up. "I am supposed to meet the Sergeant soon, I do not want to keep him waiting. I will be seeing you all shortly."

...

1 hour later.

Sergeant Beaton had decided to assign him to a patrol and instead of ripping out throats he was walking through the dense forest with a group of talkative, trigger happy soldiers.

They made their way in a loose formation through the tree line. Their movements were robotic, as if they had done this a million times before.

One of the soldiers broke the formation and stepped next to Devron. The soldier looked up at him with a grin. Devron looked back at the soldier then back forward. The soldier than looked at his waving tail.

"Damn, why do you have such a big fuzzy tail?"

Devron immediately stopped and glared daggers into the soldier. The other soldiers stopped and started to laugh. Devron let out a low growl. "Get back into formation!" He shouted.

The soldier obliged and Devron let out a sigh.

However his moment of peace was interrupted as one of the soldiers, who had pocketed his radio walked up to Devron.

"Sergeant Betson requests us back at base asap!"
