How much longer do I have to walk for? I thought in frustration. I'd been walking for at least a day, and I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. The bandit guy had said that it was close by. Was he wrong? Wait… what if I was going the wrong way this entire time?

I hoped not…

Though, it wasn't like the trip was completely useless either. I learned that for some reason, no matter how much I walked, I couldn't get tired. It's been more than 24 hours since I had arrived in the world, and I didn't feel the need to sleep even once.

I was pretty sure it had something to do with my race, but I wasn't certain.

Opening my quest log, I took a look at the only quest listed in there.

[Not Human?]

Objective – Find out what race you belong to

Rewards – 40 Stat Points, [?] spell tome, all benefits of your chosen race

Look, the 40 stat points and spell tome were cool and all, but I wanted to get the benefits of my race already. I didn't need to sleep or eat, so I had a few benefits, but I still wanted the rest of them. Like, if I was a vampire, I could transform into a bat or something.

I came to the conclusion I wasn't a vampire though. Vampires still had to eat, or at least I thought that was the case, so that option was out. I also didn't get any desire to drink the blood from those bandits from earlier. Sure, there was still a possibility, but I doubted it.

Kinda wanted to be a vampire though, I thought with a pout.

I kept walking for a few more minutes before I reached a hill. I climbed the hill, and when I reached the top, I saw a familiar view. Well, as familiar as it could be for someone from the city like myself—it was a city

Finally, I had reached! I thought I went in the wrong direction and got lost, but those fears were gone from a single view.

If I had to describe the city, I would say it was average. Not big, but not small either.

I descended down the hill, my pace a bit quicker than normal. After all, I was finally going to meet people to talk to.

No, those assholes from before didn't count.

Once I got closer to the city, I saw a line of people snaking out from the entrance. So I had to wait in a line? Well, that was fine, nothing too troublesome. The city was a decent size, so it made sense that there was a line.

After the line died down, which took quite a bit of time, the guard turned to me. "What are your purposes for coming to Margaret Town?"

So the name was Margaret Town. And it was a town, not a city.

The more you know.

Margaret—the name didn't ring any bells. It sounded familiar, but I couldn't remember what exactly it was.

I watched Fairy Tail—don't get me wrong—but while watching it, I didn't pay the most attention to the small stuff. I knew the characters, I knew the general plot, but I didn't know the details. Things like major cities and stuff were unknown to me.

"I'm a traveler, I thought it would be nice to visit here sometime, so I did," I said.

He wrote something down, and turned back up to me, "Name?"

"Lilin, no last name," no need to be extra cautious or anything, it was only me.

He wrote something down again, and nodded, "Thank you, please enjoy your stay."

I thought the process was a bit simple, but I wasn't going to complain.

I nodded to him and walked through the gates and into the city. Looking around, I couldn't help but notice how lively the city was. Shops open, people bustling around, children running around the streets.

Ugh.

Crowds were not my thing. I could tolerate them, but that didn't mean I enjoyed them. And since no one was forcing me to be out there, I wasn't going to stay for too long.

So, I decided I would find a place to stay.

The money I got from the bandits was quite a lot, so it should be enough to pay for an apartment or something.

I walked up to a man that was walking on the street and tapped his shoulder. He turned to me, and asked, "Do you need anything?"

"Yes, could you please tell me where the nearest inn is? I'm a traveler, and I'm currently a bit lost," I said while rubbing the back of my head.

He smiled, "A traveler huh, well I would be glad to help. Keep going straight from here, and take a right at the upcoming flower shop. There should be a sign that says 'Backwater Inn'. That's a popular place to go for travelers and such. There's also an apartment you can rent out around there if you want to stay a bit longer."

"I see, thank you very much."

"No problem young lady, enjoy your stay."

I followed the instructions the man gave me and reached the inn. It looked so…how should I say this, it looked so inn-y. If I were to imagine how a fantasy inn looked like, this was the image that would come to mind. It was like they googled "fantasy inn" and built it based on one of the pictures.

I could check out the apartment later, right now, the inn would do.

Opening the door, I heard a bell ringing above me, alerting the waitresses. "Welcome to Backwater Inn, we hope you enjoy your stay!" They said at the same time before they went back to what they were going.

I walked up to the front desk, and the lady behind the desk turned towards me, "Welcome, is there anything you need?"

"Yes, can I rent a room?"

"Of course! You can rent a room for 3400 jewels per night!"

The money I stole from those bandits totaled around 300000 jewels, so the price was rather cheap. I could live off of 300000 for a while, but I was going to have to find another way to get some money.

I reached into my pocket and opened my inventory. Taking out the right amount of money, I placed it on the counter. The lady grabbed the money and started to count it, making sure I gave her the right amount. After she finished counting, she turned back up to me, "Thank you for choosing our inn. Please follow me to your room."

I followed her, and she showed me to the room—which looked quite nice. I thought it was going to be worse, so it was a pleasant surprise. There was nothing extra in the room like paintings and vases and stuff, but that only made the room better.

"I hope you enjoy your stay."

I nodded to her, and he started to walk away. Once she was out of sight, I approached the bed and jumped on it face first. Hmm, it was pretty comfortable—this was worth it. I rolled around in my bed for a bit, before I stopped and looked towards my right.

Specifically, towards the bookshelf.

There was a calendar.

I jumped off the bed and went to the calendar to check what the date was.

X776

7 years before canon.

Well, I can say goodbye to canon then. I didn't know much about the butterfly effect and stuff, but I was pretty sure my presence would cause changes to canon somehow. Though, it wasn't like I would have no advantage whatsoever. There were things that would stay the same despite my presence, such as Zeref and his goals.

I looked away from the calendar and glanced over to the bookshelf. On it, I saw a book titled "History of Fiore".

It was getting pretty late outside, and I didn't have much to do, so this would do for the moment.

I grabbed the book and plopped back in my bed. I was never the reading type either, but I needed something to keep me entertained for the night.

Not being able to sleep is the worst.

(Next Morning)

I sighed as I put the book down, deciding that was enough reading for the day. It was so boring, but it was also useful, so I couldn't complain. I knew I would have to read more in the future anyway, so I had to get used to it.

"Ughh," I let out a groan as I got out of bed. It wasn't physical fatigue, but mental fatigue. Even though I didn't get tired physically, it seemed like I could get tired mentally.

Despite that, I still didn't feel any need to sleep.

I didn't try this last night, but could I sleep even though I didn't feel sleepy? I would have to try that out later.

Brushing myself off, I opened the door and started to head downstairs. It was still pretty early—5:30 am—so I didn't think there would be anyone awake for me to talk to.

Well, I could wait.

I entered the main area, and contrary to my expectations, the lady behind the desk was awake. Besides her, there was one other person there, but he was fast asleep on one of the tables.

"Good morning, I hope you slept well," The lady said with a kind smile. She really was polite, wasn't she?

"Thank you, I slept well," I said.

"Would you like anything to eat? There's a menu on the table over there, so you can use that."

Ugh, I can't eat sooo—

I paused for a bit. That was wrong, wasn't it? It wasn't that I couldn't eat, I just didn't feel hungry. If I wanted, I could eat, couldn't it?

Walking up to the table, I picked up the menu and read it. It had a few interesting items. What caught my eye the most though was the item that looked like the cartoon meat you see in kids' shows.

"I'm ready to order," I said to the waitress.

"What would you like?" The waitress asked as she walked up to me.

"This," I said, pointing to the fantasy meat.

"I see," she wrote my order down in her notebook, "Thank you for your order."

After a few minutes of waiting, the waitress came back with the order in her hand. It looked so good.

"I hope you enjoy," she said before she went back to behind the desk.

I picked up the piece of meat and bit into it. The juices from the flesh dripped down my mouth. It was definitely good—better than I had expected it to be.

It seemed that I could still taste despite not needing to. I didn't know why I thought I couldn't taste, that was quite stupid of me.

It wasn't that I couldn't eat, it was just that I didn't have to.

If I could eat despite not needing it, what were the chances that I could sleep despite not needing it? I was a bit suspicious of it before, but at that moment, it seemed all the more likely.

I would have gone back into my room and tried it right then, but I had more important things to do.

I walked up to the Desk Lady and asked politely, "Excuse me, may I ask a question?"

"Yes, that's fine."

"Is there any place where I can find a job around here?"

Job searching. I had intended to start this later when I would spend almost all my money. I decided though that it was better to start early than later.

I knew a few ways I could get a job. Joining a guild was one of them. I had seriously considered that option during my day-long walk to this town. Joining a good guild would provide many things. Protection, being one of the most important.

But I decided I would not do that at the time. There were a few reasons, but most importantly, I didn't want to limit my movements so early into the game. I had to establish a proper position on the playing board—using my real identity or otherwise. I would then go from there.

Joining a guild that early would have limited my options greatly.

"Yes, if you would like, we have a few open positions in our inn if you would like to work here," the lady said. Before I could speak up in denial though, she spoke up again. "Though, that's probably not the answer you were looking for is it?"

I shook my head.

She sighed, "Look over there." She said pointing to the corner of the building. "That's a bounty board where we pin posters for criminal bounties. It isn't a job exactly, but if you're strong enough, you should be able to do a few C rank ones."

What? How did I never see this?

I didn't actually spend too much time in the common area of the inn. When I entered, I immediately got a room. Even after that, eating my food didn't take too much time.

"Thank you," I said. I stopped for a moment, before I asked, "May I ask how you knew I was looking for something combat-related?"

"Despite how I look, I was a full-fledged mage when I was younger you know," she boasted, puffing her chest out proudly. "Mages can tell other mages apart from the rest you know."

I couldn't tell you apart though, I thought wryly. It's okay though, I'm still just a beginner! I'm going to get better with time… hopefully.

"My name is Rosetta by the way. You can call me Rose."

Wait, wait, wait, when did we get all buddy-buddy? I paused for a second, No, no, calm down Lilin—we aren't getting buddy-buddy—we're just exchanging names.

I took her hand, and shook it, "My name is Lilin."

"Nice to meet you Lilin," She smiled.

I smiled back slightly and headed over to the bounty board. I didn't know why, but that conversation felt kinda weird to me at first. After I thought about it for a bit, it seemed normal for her to ask for my name. It wasn't like she was asking me to marry her, and she needed some way to address me. I was never a people person, so I was kind of slow with those kinds of things. Perhaps I would understand them better once my WIS went up.

I looked at the bulletin board, filled with unprecedented bounties.

Quest Added

[First Steps of a Bounty Hunter]

Objective – Complete your first bounty successfully

Rewards – 5 stat points, [Fire Bullet] spell tome

There, another reason to complete a bounty.

If I was hesitating before, I was completely sold after that.

I kept scanning the board for a few more seconds, before I saw a familiar image. The faces were familiar—extremely familiar. There was no way I could forget them after what had happened. It didn't even happen too long ago, so their faces were still fresh in my brain.

I stared at the picture of the three bald men, eyes wide.

Aren't those the bandits I killed a while ago?

(Ultear Milkovich)

Ultear wouldn't describe herself as evil.

Ruthless? Sure. Manipulative? Probably. Hateful? Absolutely. But evil was not something she would use to describe herself. She knew that other people thought otherwise though. After all, the things she had done in the past were no doubt horrible. Despite that, Ultear would describe those actions as ambiguous—not evil.

Though I'm seriously considering it now, she thought, brows twitching as she looked at the scene in front of her.

"G-give it back, I got it first." Kain said as he reached out his small arms towards Zancrow, who was holding something away from him.

"No way, you fucking stole my ice cream like 3 times last week, I'm taking this for sure." He scowled, keeping the box of ice cream away from him.

"I said sorry though," Kain said, "Now give it back, I bought that."

"Nope, this is mine for sure."

Are they little kids? Ultear thought, hey eyebrows twitching even more violently.

Suddenly, a burst of black flame came out of Zancrows hand, burning whatever was in it.

"Y-you burnt it, why did you do that!?" Zain seemed to be getting angry, which was quite a rare sight.

Zancrow, however, didn't pay him any attention, "Fuuuuuuck, my fucking ice cream. It was going to taste so good too." He seemed to be in despair.

Zain took out a doll, "You'll pay for this—"

"Enough," Ultear said in a voice of authority. Immediately, both of them stopped what they were doing and looked at her. She would have normally let this happen. Zancrow and Zain wouldn't kill each other, despite how much they fought, so there was no reason to worry about that.

There were more important things to discuss at that moment. Ultear couldn't allow them to fight any longer and delay that.

"What is it Ultear, you're being rather serious today," Zancrow said. He dropped the burnt ice-cream container and leaned against the wall.

"I am going to be very serious today. We have a new order from Hades, and I'm here to inform you about it." Her announcement got both of their attention. "In a month's time—maybe longer if Hades wills so—we will be attacking a small village."

Right as she uttered those words, Zancrow's smile grew feral, "Let's go, finally some more people to kill."

Ultear rolled her eyes. She didn't understand his obsession with killing people, and she didn't think she ever would.

"Yes, yes, you'll get to kill a lot of people. Don't hold back either, you can go all out."

"Woohoo, that's what I'm talking about!" Zancrow cheered as he jumped around.

"Well, that's all I came here to tell you. You can go back to… whatever it is you were doing before, now."

Ultear walked out of the room ignoring the argument that had just started again. Probably because she had reminded them there were arguing before.

Hopefully, it will go smoothly. It would bring her one step closer to her final goal. She could only hope that it would happen without any problems.

AN: I have nothing to say. I hope you enjoyed.
