After eating, Salt Lake left to do her own stuff while Nashville lead Indiana to her room. She walked down the hallway and stopped at the fifth to last door on the left side. She pulled out a card and swiped it. The card reader flashed green and she pushed the door open.
Inside the room, there are six beds, three on each side. The room has a bit more personality with the walls having color instead of the dull gray. There are some cabinets against the wall, a ceiling fan, and a door on the left and right sides of the room. "I share this room with four destroyers and a cruiser but we don't have to worry about them interrupting us."
She walked over to one of the beds and sat down. She grabbed a square-looking device and pulled a cable out of it. She opened it and pressed a button that lights up. Indiana approached her, "Um, what is... that?"
"It's a laptop. Come on, I'll show you how it works and catch you up on what has happened to the world in the past seventy years."
Indiana sat down next to her and Nashville started walking her through on how to use a laptop. For the next eight hours, Nashville caught Indiana up on everything she needed to know or wanted to know. During that time, Nashville's roommates would enter and look at the two with curiosity but didn't interrupt them. In fact, neither Nashville or Indiana noticed them to begin with. They only took one break and that was to eat dinner. Once they were done it was right back to it. They only stopped when Nashville noticed how late it was.
"We'll call it here. I have a patrol scheduled in five hours so I need to get some sleep." She turned off her laptop and closed it before plugging it into the charger. Indiana smiled nervously and scratched her cheek. "Sorry. I didn't mean to take up your day."
Nashville waved her concerns away, "It's fine. Good night Indiana."
"Good night Nashville."
While Nashville got ready for bed Indiana stepped out and headed toward her room. She pulled out the keycard Salt Lake had given her and unlocked the door. Her room hadn't changed since she first saw it. She walked over to one of the beds, laid down, and closed her eyes.
Four and a half hours later, Nashville woke up. She had thirty minutes before she had to sortie for her patrol. She exited the room and walked down the hallways. The whole building is silent save for the sound of her footsteps echoing off the walls. She arrived at the front of the building and Salt Lake City plus two destroyers are waiting for her.
"Nashville, looking fine as always," one of the destroyers said as her eyes roamed freely. Nashville's skin has a light tone and her hair color is light blue; it's tied up in two pigtails that run down her front. She wears a blue and white tank top that completely covers her breasts but it has a small cut out showing a hint of them. There are four small buttons on her shirt, two on each side, and they have the USN symbol on them. Rounding out her outfit, a pair of jeans that hug her hips and stern tightly. On her left pant leg her name is written in white letters. "Looking very fine indeed."
The second destroyer rolled her eyes. "Enough Dewey."
"Oh come on Dale! Everyone looks like a fucking supermodel! Don't tell me you haven't starred," she said with a smirk.
Dale's face started to turn red and she refused to look at her sister. "That's what I thought."
"Shut up."
"Hey, there's nothing wrong with enjoying the views."
Dale's face is bright red and she's starring at her feet. "I said, shut up."
"Alright Dewey, that's enough."
She looked at Salt Lake, crossed her arms, and pouted. "Fine, ruin my fun why don't ya," she mumbled.
"Dale, why aren't you in the repair baths?"
"I didn't want to miss the patrol ma'am. I asked Vestal if I could be on the patrol and she reluctantly agreed after I kept bothering her about it."
"You're sure you can sortie tonight?"
"Yes. Vestal gave me a shot that stopped what aches I still had. I can sortie tonight."
"...Alright. If Vestal and Salt Lake have agreed, there's nothing I can do."
"Don't worry Nashville. I'll be fine."
"Come on. We'll meet with the rest of the squadron at the docks."
Salt Lake pushed the doors open and walked out. The sun had just about risen over the horizon creating a beautiful orange-red sky. They walked across the base to the docks passing a few guards on patrol. They approached a building that sat on the waterfront and walked inside. The interior of the building is fairly large but there is very little floor to walk in because it's open to the ocean. Two sets of stairs lead down to the ocean. There are six destroyers, the rest of their small squadron, talking to each other.
"We ready to sortie?"
"Yes ma'am. Just waiting on you."
"Alright, Let's go!" They summoned their rigging, stepped onto the ocean's surface, and sailed out. "So, what area are we patrolling this time?"
"Waters off Northern California, Oregon, and Washington. There's a second squadron patrolling of the coast of Canada but we won't have to worry them straying into our patrol zone."
Two hours after Salt Lake and her squadron sortied the base is starting to come to life properly. The majority of the base personal are awake and carrying out their duties for the day and the same can be said for the Kanmusu who have missions to do in the morning. Those who don't are either in the rec room or out practicing their skills.
Indiana left the mess and exited the building. The only objective she had to do in the morning is met with Rear Admiral Smith. She's not a hundred percent sure but it probably has to do with what squadron she's going to be a part of. As she approached the main building, "Hey! You're Indiana, right?"
She turned and there is a Kanmusu jogging towards her. "Yes. Who are you?"
"I'm Wasp. I'm part of Carrier Division 4 which is attached to the Eighth Fleet."
"Let me guess, I'm part of the Eighth Fleet."
Wasp smiled and pointed at her, "Got it in one. Specially, you're part of Battle Squadron 38."
"Good to know. What squadron are Salt Lake and Nashville part of?"
"They're part of Cruiser Squadron 8 which is also part of the Eighth Fleet."
"Thanks. I'll see you around Wasp!"
"See ya Indiana!"
Indiana walked back toward the barracks. She stepped inside, turned down the hallway that leads to the rec room, and followed it to a pair of doors. She pushed them open and beyond them was a 4-way intersection. Signs are hanging from the ceiling reading 'Beach', Pool', and 'Rec Room'. She turned left and at the end of the hallway is a single door.
She pushed that door open and stepped inside a large room. There are a few TVs in the room with couches in front of them. There is a table in front of each couch that has various items on it. There are four Kanmusu, all destroyer types, watching TV. Well, two of them are trying to watch TV while the other two are arguing about something. To her left, is a damn bar. "Damn. Did the navy pay for all this?"
"No, but they pay us and we paid for all this."
A heavy cruiser is approaching her. "I haven't met you before. Are you new?"
"Yeah. I was just summoned yesterday. My name is Indiana."
"Chester. Great to meet you Indiana!"
She smiled at her enthusiasm, "Great to meet you to Chester. Are you part of Battle Squadron 38?"
She nodded, "Yep! Wait are you asking because..."
Indiana smiled and nodded, "Yeah. I'm part of Battle Squadron 38."
"Sweet! I need to introduce you to North Carolina!"
"Where is she?"
"She's not here right now. She has taken half of the squadron out for exercises. As soon as she's back you can introduce yourself!"
"Sounds good. So, what were you doing at the bar? Wait, better question, why is there a bar on the base in the first place?"
"Um, I don't have an answer for the second question but for the first, I was mixing some drinks. What to try them?"
"You're mixing drinks in the morning?"
"Well yeah! What else I'm I supposed to do in the morning?"
Indiana looked at her for a few seconds, before she shook her head. "I'm not going to tell you what to do with your mornings. If you want to mix drinks, fine."
Chester's eyes light up, "That's great to hear! I thought you were going to be like some of the others and tell me that you can't mix drinks in the morning! They looked at me weirdly when I do it and I don't like it," she pouted.
"Why don't you tell them that?"
Chester adopted a thoughtful expression. "I... don't know. Anyway! Do you want to try my drinks?"
Indiana was a little supersized at her sudden shift in mood. "Uh, no. Sorry Chester but, I'm not in the mood for a drink right now."
Chester looked disappointed for a second before she smiled. "It's alright. I understand that drinking in the morning isn't something people do regularly. Or at all now that I think about it. People usually only drink at night. Will you try my drinks tonight!?"
"Uhhhhhh..."
"Chester! Calm down! You're stressing her out!"
"Oh! I-I am so sorry! I didn't mean to!"
"It's... fine. To answer your question. No."
Chester pouted, "Aw man. You'll love them through!"
"I'm sure I will but the answer is still no."
She sighed, "Ah well. Your loss." With that, she headed behind the bar and started mixing a drink. Indiana just shook her head, walked over to the couch, and watched whatever happened to be on the T.V.
