At around 10, they stop the book club. Emily puts her light jacket on and says goodbye, "It was really nice reading with you. Maybe next week we could do this again?"

"Absolutely!" Derek holds the door open for Emily. Emily waltzes out the door with her book and wine bottle. He watches her get into the car and drive off safely. Derek slumps on his couch and thinks, 'Damnit, Derek! You can't fall for her.'

Meanwhile, Emily is driving down his street and thinks, 'Good Lord, Emily. You can't love him."

The next few weeks, the book club continues flawlessly. Derek brags to Spencer when signing into the office, "Book club has been great. We are going to start a new book next week."

"It sounds like fun, I'm in," Spencer invites himself.

Derek stops walking in the middle of the hallway, "We are at capacity, sorry bud." Sort of offended, Spencer scoffs and continues to walk towards the glass door.

Derek meets up with Emily who is at her desk. Emily smiles, "I can't wait for tonight. I just spoke with Hotch and he said there are no major cases. It looks like a quick and easy day today."

"Can't wait," Derek sets up at his desk and gets right to paperwork. After the workday is completed Derek asks, "Do you want to swing by early? I can get some snacks and we can celebrate by finishing our first book."

"Sure, around 6?" Emily asks, packing up her things.

Derek looks at his watch, "Sounds good. That gives us an hour." Emily leaves before Derek even starts to pack up. After 10 minutes of collecting his belongings, he starts to head home. He arrives home and he starts to make a miniature charcuterie board.

Right before 6, he hears the door open. Emily walks in, "I think we are on the level of friendship where I can just walk in."

"Absolutely," Derek brings his charcuterie board over the coffee table and sits on his chair. "I thought we could start reading and take some time to eat this. Then we could discuss our favorite parts."

"Great," Emily exclaims. She opens her book and starts to read the second to last chapter. After finishing the book they realize they haven't even touched the board, "I guess we can eat this while we go over the book."

Derek takes a cracker, puts a slice of cheese and fancy pepperoni on it, "So, what did you think about the book?"

"I…" Emily watches him politely munch on his cracker attractively. Emily struggles to put a sentence together, "I loved it." She pulls herself together, "My favorite character has to be Resi Noth-"

She is cut off by Derek, "Mine too! She is kind of terrifying."

"I know right! She is independent and strong, though," The two talk about Resi and the rest of the characters. Later, they finish their board and continue talking. "I completely forgot the ending. It honestly caught me by surprise."

Derek remains quiet, looking at her in the moonlight shining through the window. He licks his lip and pulls her in close. He kisses her passionately. Emily continues with the kiss and doesn't push him away. Derek stands up with Emily still attached to him. Emily starts to walk back towards the bedroom, but Derek ends it, "I'm sorry."

"What?" Emily wipes her mouth as she backs away from Derek.

Derek backs away from her, "This was a mistake. I'm sorry."

"Derek?" Emily tries to get closer to him, he steps back.

Derek walks over to grab the empty board, "I think it'd be best if you left."

Emily nods, rushes to grab her coat, and heads towards the door, "I hope we can continue the book club, it's really nice having someone who has the same interests as me."

As she leaves Derek tosses the board across the room into the kitchen sink. He exclaims, "Damnit, Derek! You ruined everything!"

Emily walks to her car with tears in her eyes, thinking, 'Did I do something?'

Derek lays on the couch and soon falls asleep. He wakes up to his alarm. He gets ready quickly as if nothing happened last night. After about 20 minutes of driving quietly, he arrives at work and sees Emily pulling in next to him. Emily meets up with him by the door, Derek initiates the conversation, "So about last night…"

"It never happened. You don't need to worry," Emily holds the door open.

Spencer follows behind them, "What never happened?"

Derek looks at Emily and rolls his eyes. Emily speeds ahead of them to the elevator. Spencer looks confused. To alleviate his confusion Derek explains vaguely, "We finished our book, ate some snacks, kissed, and discussed how we felt about the ending. In no particular order."

"First you guys didn't let me in and now you guys kissed?" Spencer exclaims loudly. Every head on the main floor turns to look at Spencer. Spencer shakes his head, "No, you know what? I need the restroom. I will meet you up there."

Derek watches Spencer jog away. Derek shrugs his shoulders and walks towards the elevators. He then gets ready for his long day of work, assessing and handling non-emergent cases. After about half an hour, Spencer walks into the bullpen, "What? You have dairy again?"

"Yup," Spencer nods along and heads to his desk. Aaron's door is open enough for the team to hear the shriek of the phone ringing. Aaron ends the annoying noise and answers it. After a few minutes of inaudible discussion on the phone, he hangs up, walks out of his office, and calls out, "Prentiss and Morgan, may I have a word."

Derek and Emily look at each other with concern. Derek looks at Spencer as he walks over to Aaron, "Tattletale." Aaron tells the both of them, "HR has requested your presence." The two nod and start to walk away. Aaron asks abruptly, "Is there anything I need to know?"

Emily mentions, "Nope."

The two take different routes to HR. Emily ends up getting there first. Soon Derek reaches HR, where they are met with a young woman, "My name is Kristen Martin. I am in charge of your fresh case here. If you want to follow me, that would be perfect." Derek and Emily follow Kristen to her little cubicle. Kristen sits down in her chair behind her desk," We have received an anonymous complaint that you two have formed a 'book club' in which you disinvited other people and in which you two have kissed."

Emily looks directly at Derek who is sliding in his chair. Derek rubs his head in frustration. Emily smacks him on the arm, "You told Spencer?"

"It just came out… I didn't…" Derek tries to mend the situation but fails.

Emily huffs and leans back in her chair. Kristen interjects, "We just need you two to fill out some papers stating that you now have a relationship."

"Oh no! No. No. No," Emily responds quickly, "We are not in a relationship."

"It was a one-time thing. It'll never happen again," Derek assures her.

Kristen is weary, "I don't normally do this, but I am trusting you guys. I am closing the case, unless something else arises within the next three months it will be dismissed then." Emily and Derek look visibly relieved. Kristen further explains, "You guys have to report back to your Unit Chief. You are free to go."

Emily and Derek go separate ways again. However, both enter the bullpen at the same time. Derek walks over to Spencer before going to Aaron's office, "Nice move, Genius."

Aaron lets them both in, "What is going on?"

Derek closes the door behind him, "We kissed. Once! And it will never happen again."

"Never again," Emily agrees.

Aaron ponders before replying, "I should have you transferred. I don't tolerate fraternization within my department." Both of them nod in agreement while Aaron continues, "Is that all?"

Emily answers, "Yes, sir."

"Emily, you can go. Derek, stay back for a minute," Emily leaves while Derek sits down in the chair across from Aaron's desk. Aaron asks flat out, "Do you love her?"

Derek, shocked, doesn't answer at first. He begins to sweat and stutter, "Wh- What are y- you talking about?"

"I see the way you look at her. I've noticed since the very first day. It doesn't take a profiler to notice it either. You love her and it's okay to say it," Aaron looks at Derek who is giving up on his front.

"Fine. I love her, but we can't-" Derek is cut off.

Aaron says, "I made it up."

Derek looks shocked, "What?"

"I don't care, as long as it doesn't affect your work," Aaron shrugs and leans back casually.

"Wow, I didn't think you would be okay with workplace relationships," Derek mentions.

Aaron causally excises him, "You are free to leave."

Derek gets up and exits his office thinking, 'Man, I didn't even know that until he mentioned it; but it feels so right.
