As soon as the door shuts, Rey wipes her eyes on her arm wraps. She does not want anyone to see her breaking down about Ben Solo...well, Kylo Ren. She came to him to stand by his side and thought she would bring him back to the light. How wrong she had been. A series of beeps brings her out of her head and she looks down to see BB-8 beside her. She smiles softly at him and kneels down to be at eye level. The little droid always knows how to make her smile no matter how she is feeling. He beeps and tilts his head towards her, showing off his brand new antenna. She giggles gently at his proud attitude.
"It looks great, BB-8. Really suits you," she replies.
BB-8 whistles and beeps excitedly and nuzzles himself against her. She pats him lovingly before he heads off down the corridor to greet R2-D2 who is covered with porgs at the moment. Rey watches him roll off happily and moves over to sit on a free bench. The Millennium Falcon is bustling with voices. They are filled with relief and happiness. She glances around as Resistance fighters hug and celebrate their narrow escape.
This is all that's left, she thinks to herself.
Rey holds the pieces of her lightsaber in hand. It was the lightsaber that belonged to Luke Skywalker, her mentor and the man who had just sacrificed himself so the Resistance could live on. It had broken when she and Kylo Ren were fighting over it. Rey shakes her head, amazed still at how balanced they both are. It feels so right and yet, he still chose the darkness.
She is brought out of her thoughts when Leia Organa, general of the Resistance takes a seat beside her. Rey tries to hide her thoughts and emotions about Kylo away from Leia. She knows full well that Leia can see right through anyone, and not just by using the Force. With her many years of politics and working alongside many heroes in the days of the Rebellion, Leia knows her people and knows exactly how to reach them. She says nothing to Rey but places a hand on top of the girl's knee.
"It's good to have you back Rey. But I must ask, are you ok?" Leia asks gently.
Rey looks down at the broken lightsaber in her eyes and fights the tears coming yet again. She closes her eyes for a moment to steady herself before responding. Leia waits patiently.
"I'm ok. I'm just glad we're all here together again," Rey explains simply.
She does not want to get into talking about Kylo Ren in front of his own mother. Rey can already feel a blush creeping up her cheeks as he comes across her mind. It does not escape Leia's notice. She pats Rey's hand and speaks softly.
"He'll come around, Rey. Even now, I still know there's good in him. He's just...stubborn. Just like his father," she says.
Rey exhales in a slight chuckle thinking about Leia's comparison. She has to agree with her there. Both men are incredibly stubborn. But it is what makes Kylo...Ben...this man Rey has fallen for seem more relatable and more, dare she say, human. Leia chuckles at this comparison as well and pats Rey's hand again. Rey's small smile fades as she looks around the Falcon.
"How do we rebuild from this?" she asks.
Leia sighs and squeezes Rey's hand gently. She looks at the young girl before her and gives her a soft smile.
"We have everything we need," Leia replies.
Rey nods quietly and lays her head on Leia's shoulder. Leia rests her head against Rey's and they sit in silence, both thinking about the hard work ahead.
