Chapter 2: Inej
Her ship was fast, was well equipped, and the team Kaz had adviced her into choose, was efficient, she arrived to Ketterdam at sunset, and she escalated quickly to the roofs she knows by heart, she needed to be up, she was walking home.
She tough of visiting Jesper and Wylan, but that could wait 'til tomorrow, or even another day.
Fifty four days sailing did something to her, yeah, the days were really busy, and some nights too, but, despite that, in every single chance she had, she missed Kaz, she missed his voice, she missed the way he always knew when she arrived, even if he didn't hear her, she even missed that nickname, but only said by him, his Wrath, she missed having him by his side, damn, she even missed his back, watching over it.
She dreamed with him, every single night, when she was so tired, and couldn't remember anything, she still woke up with the feeling of loss, that always haunted her when dreamed with him, so she knew even if she didn't remebered what happened in her dream, Kaz was in it.
Some were silly fantasies, him, lied down in a Ravka's field full of grass, relaxed, no angry faces, no searching for things that may cause trouble, just the two of them, enjoying the flesh air, the clear sky. His head on her lap, she caressing his hair, no gloves, no fear of touch.
Some other were just vivid memories, the sight of his face when he carried her to their ship that time she was stabbed, his deadly smirk when something didn't went accord his plans.
But the ones that left her physically tired were when she remembered some thing he had said to her, and some she said to him, when she told him she had him without armor or not had him at all, there always were different endings, but, deep, in her heart, she know they cannot change how things had happened.
Still, sometimes her dreams took a weird turn, she would be mischievous and brave, she would seduce him, and he allowed it, she would caress his cheek, lightly following his jaw line before he would lean on her and kissed her, slowly at first, then with more and more passion, until both of them were out of breath, then she would conduce both of them to bed, it was always his bed, and that was when she always woke up, feeling empty and with her heart at full speed, feeling warm in weird places.
So, she hurried up to the attic where she knew he would be working, as always. She climbed up to his window, which was open.
When she entered the room, she was surprised, Kaz wasn't at his desk, he was asleep, no suit on, just black pants and a white shirt, she was about to get out, thinking of closing his window, for all her saints, it was dangerous. But she heard him mumble in his sleep
-I'm glad you're back, I… missed you…-
she refused to let hope rise in her chest, until he continued
-A lot, Inej-.
She couldn't and wouldn't stop his heart from beating as fast as it could. So, she approached him, still asleep, and she heard him make sounds she never tought to hear from him and little gasps.
She sat on his bed, having care of not touching him, and lied next to him, then something happened, she saw a single tear come off his right eye, and he opened his eyes.
