Kagome was sipping a smoothie, assessing the hero that was Ben 10. He'd been a legend in the academy, and everyone wanted to be his new partner, but Max had selected her. Why?
"So you're Japanese?" Ben said, making polite conversation.
"I'm a priestess." Kagome said. "That was the glow from the arrows. My sacred power."
"You're a human with powers?" Ben was interested now. "Are you a Plumber's kid?"
"No." Kagome shook her head. "Just a girl lost in time."
"What does that mean?" Ben was confused.
"A long time ago, humans had access to the power within them." Kagome said. "Some call it spiritual energy. Your cousin would call it mana. That's all it is. I just have a lot of it. And mine is pure."
"That explains it." Ben put his smoothie down. "You were assigned to me because of Gwen."
"I doubt that." Kagome smirked. "I was assigned to you because I can handle arrogant and stubborn men."
Ben didn't know whether to be insulted or not.
