nyc to vermont

here's the second chapter! please r&r!

previously~

when she got out of the taxi rufus was already there with a car and helped lily load her suitcase into the backseat and they both sat in the front of the car.

"you ready?" rufus asked and kissed the back of her hand

"yeah" lily said and meshed their lips together in a sweet kiss

rufus responded to the kiss immediately and wrapped his arms around lily's waist and lily caressed his cheek. rufus broke the kiss after a minute and rested his forehead against hers, lily smiled sweetly at him and pecked his lips. rufus turned his head forward and started their journey to vermont.

"so how long is the drive?" lily asked as rufus started driving

"around five hours" rufus answered and interlocked their fingers

lily nodded and turned on the radio and started messing around with the stations until she reached a song she liked. rufus got distracted by how gorgeous she was looking and admired how beautiful she looked even after all these years. lily caught him staring at her and chuckled

"eyes on the road humphrey" she said

rufus was broken out of his trance and turned his eyes back towards the road and laughed. for the next two hours they flirted and laughed together until lily fell asleep, she rested her head against the window and rufus smiled at her and kept driving.

after an hour rufus stopped the car in front of a restaurant along the highway for dinner and got out of the car, he opened the car door at lily's side and caressed her cheek with his thumb, and pecked her lips, trying to wake her up. lily stirred a little and opened her eyes.

"lil wake up" rufus said to her

"hm...uh have we reached?" she asked and rubbed her eyes

"no I thought we could get dinner" he chuckled at how cute she was looking right now

"oh" she said and got out of the car with rufus's help and they both went inside the restaurant hand in hand. they sat at a table by the window and ordered their food.

"how long was I out for?" lily asked and took a bite of her sandwich

"only an hour, we still have two hours more" rufus answered

they finished up their food and paid and left the restaurant, there was a gas station right next to it so when rufus was filling up the car with gas lily got an idea. she grabbed the car keys from his hands and sat in the driver's seat and waited for rufus to come

"why are you sitting there?" rufus asked and laughed with amusement

"I thought I could drive the rest of the way" she then started the engine and waited for rufus to get in

"all right just don't fall asleep, I want to reach vermont in one piece" rufus teased and sat in the seat next to lily

"don't worry humphrey I won't kill you" lily said and started driving

"good to know" rufus replied and helped lily with the directions

~come home~

serena was at the palace hotel and it had been a little over three hours since her mom left for her "spa trip" which sounded a little skeptical to her because her mother just came back from a vacation so why the spa trip? she had a feeling her mom was lying to her but she just figured she was being paranoid. eric had come home a while back and serena informed him about their mother going away for the weekend, after some time he left to go meet jenny. serena was bored out of her mind because she usually used to spend friday night with her mom watching movies and meet up with blair later. suddenly she heard her phone ringing and saw that it was her boyfriend dan calling.

"hey!" serena said with a smile

"hey do you wanna do dinner together?" dan asked, he didn't have anything else to do because his dad had gone to new jersey to meet a "friend" which dan did not believe

"sure! you can come over and we can watch a movie and order room service" serena suggested

"that sounds amazing I'll be there in fifteen minutes" dan said and cut the phone

~come home~

after fifteen minutes as promised dan showed up at the palace hotel and knocked on the van der woodsen hotel room that they were currently living in

"hey!" serena exclaimed and kissed him

"hi" dan replied after breaking the kiss

"come on in" serena told him and closed the door behind them

"so what movie should we watch? me and mom usually watch some rom-com but since she had to go somewhere for the weekend, you can pick" serena then plopped herself down on the sofa

"didn't your mom just get back from her vacation with bart?" dan asked and sat down next to serena

"yeah she said she needed some time to herself but honestly I'm not sure if she is telling the truth. she has been acting weird for a couple of days"

"same with my dad he had to go to new jersey to meet a friend, I didn't even know he had any friends from there" dan said as he thought it was kind of weird that both their parents went away somewhere mysteriously without much of an explanation

"oh my god" she froze after she heard dan telling her that his father was not home too, she started to put two and two together

"what is it?" dan asked

"what if our parents went away somewhere together?" serena said quietly

"what? now way! It's probably just a coincidence" he wanted to believe it was but it's not the most unbelievable scenario, even if his father didn't want to admit it dan could clearly see his dad still had feelings for lily

"It can't be a coincidence dan, even if we both don't want to admit it we know our parents still have feelings for each other it's not that much of a stretch that maybe they could be together right now" serena said with a worried expression on her face, oh how she wished it was a coincidence but looking back on her mother's behavior earlier she didn't think it was

dan looked at serena with the same worried expression on his face wondering what to do next, what if their parents were together? what would it mean for them?

"let's just not think about it right now, I'll call my dad tomorrow and ask him point-blank if he's with lily, I will be able to tell if he's lying or not" dan suggested and put his hand on serena's and gently squeezed it comforting her

"all right I'll call my mom tomorrow too" she replied and smiled weakly at him
