Trevor awoke to the hazy faces of Sypha and Alucard hovering over him.

"Is he dead?"

"I don't think so. He smells alive."

"I cannot tell if he is breathing. How hard did you hit him?"

"He's a Belmont, he can take it."

"I am, in fact, alive," he groaned.

"Pity," Alucard sniffed.

Trevor held his head as he sat upright. Alucard's blow throbbed more than his night creature wound.

"Alucard, I didn't need to be knocked out until next year," he muttered.

"It's always better to be sure," the vampire smirked slightly.

"How are you feeling?" Sypha asked with wide eyes.

Trevor lifted his shirt to see his bandaged side. Sypha had managed to spread the green goop over his injury and it soothed the burn of his wound. He felt tired and feverish, his body working to heal. However, the blood flow was stemmed and the pain was becoming more manageable.

"Alright," he nodded, "ready to go on."

"Are you mad?" Sypha huffed vehemently, "You are not going anywhere. We are staying here until you are able to walk."

"Not this again, Sypha-"

"This is not an argument," she crossed her arms.

There really was no arguing with her.

"Fine," he sighed.

"At last," Alucard quipped, "he can behave."

Trevor resisted the urge to retort after Sypha delivered Alucard a glare.

"Tell me you have something to eat?" Trevor felt his stomach protest.

She perked up, "Your appetite has returned. That is a good sign."

"It is if I don't die of starvation first."

"Here," she returned with a cloth of blueberries, "I picked them this morning."

He did not want to shatter the mood by saying that a few blueberries weren't going to hold his hunger at bay, so he kept his mouth shut and thanked Sypha with gritted teeth. She was pleased. Alucard stifled a laugh, seeing right through his ruse.

Hours ticked by and the sun beat overhead. Alucard sat in the shade, eyes closed, leaning against the thick trunk of a pine tree. Sypha kept watch, keeping their makeshift camp clean and homey. Every couple of minutes, she would kneel by Trevor's side and ensure the bandage wasn't soiled.

Trevor fell in and out of sleep. His body was still touched with fever as it worked to heal his injury. He was grateful for the rest. Sypha was right in her persistence. If he had to continue their journey in this state, he would not survive.

He startled awake at one point when he felt the bandage carefully being removed from his skin.

"I apologize," she was equally shocked to see him awake, "I thought you were asleep. I did not want to disturb you."

"That's alright," he settled, "continue."

"I think it would be best to let it breathe," she carefully unstuck each gauze strip, "the air would do it some good."

"Whatever you say, doctor."

She smirked.

"You're not angry with me today?"

"No," she said, "because you seemed to have survived the night due to my poultice."

"So, you'd only be upset with me if I were to be on the verge of death."

"Livid," she responded.

"Good thing," he cracked a smile, "I don't think I could handle your lividity."

"I know you could not."

He chuckled and a brief pause passed between them, "I admit that I should thank you for your life-saving efforts."

"Mm-hmm, go on."

"Well, then...I...thank you….for the green goop that seemed to have healed me."

"You barely seemed to have managed that sentence."

"You ask of the impossible. We Belmonts are a steel-hearted, sturdy breed not accustomed to giving thanks to Speaker Magicians who save our lives."

"Time to learn," she smiled. She placed Trevor's soiled bandages in the dirt and burned them with her fire.

He watched her perform the task until she finished and stood.

"Get some more rest. I will prepare dinner."

Trevor realized his weariness and obeyed.

As dusk settled in, Alucard awoke. His nocturnal nature prompted more witty quips in the evening, much to Trevor's displeasure.

As the monster hunter awoke to eat some of Sypha's cooked squirrel, Alucard took this time to be humorous.

"How could you eat with that disgusting wound glaring at you in the open like that?"

"Says the blood sucker," Trevor bit into his squirrel, "besides, Sypha suggested I 'let it breathe.'"

"Much to the displeasure of the entire forest."

"Flashing some fang are we, Alucard?" Trevor smirked, "Good one. Maybe one day your witty retorts will even be good enough to compete with the big kids."

"Kind of you to include yourself among that group. It's good to have ambitions."

"Careful, boys," Sypha sat in between them, intervening with their squabble. She glanced at Trevor, "your squirrel is getting cold."

"Tell Alucard next time it won't be so easy to get a chance to hit me."

Alucard spoke on Sypha's other side, "Tell Trevor that-"

"I am not telling anyone anything," she held up her hands, "now let us sit quietly and eat dinner like the friends that we are, alright?"

"Whatever."

"Fine."

"Good," she nodded, "now, if you will excuse me, I am going to help myself to some more of this delicious squirrel."

She stood and approached the spit turning over the fire.

Trevor and Alucard remained turned away from each other.

"Dick."

"Asshole."

Sypha returned with a smile, "So, are we being nice to one another?"

"Yep."

"Absolutely."

The End!
