Chapter 2: The good news just keeps coming

Summer Schnee did not want to be a Huntress, at all. Well, maybe a little bit, when she was a kid, but not anymore. She had things to do, criminals to beat up. She didn't have time for this. So when she found herself on an airship, heading to Beacon Academy, she was not happy. The only thing that kept her from having a full on meltdown was, that it would've been emberrassing.

"I didn't know you wanted to go this school. " Briar beamed, seemingly ignoring her sister's distress.

"I didn't." Summer snapped, then started to explain what happened. "... then fell unconscious and woke up here. "

"So... You're saying that Uncle Whitley drugged you?" Briar asked, not really convinced. "Don't you think this is a little too far fetched?"

"I can't stay here. You have to help me escape. " Briar didn't answer, just looked down at her feet. Summer knew her sister was dissapointed, but she had to leave. It was for the best.

"Well, if it isn't Summer Schnee." Summer felt her heart sank, when she heard the familiar voice. "The prodigal daughter returned." Not this!

"Hi Lia!" Briar greeted the girl cheerfully. Summer was preparing to run away, when Briar grabbed her by the arm. Summer didn't have choice, Brair had the grip-strenght of a full-blown gorilla, getting out of her grip was basically impossible, so she reluctantly turned around.

"Lia... What a joy..." she mumbled. The cat faunus was standing few meters away from them, with her ever present smug grin. Her hair was in low pigtails, that was new, and she was certainly less scrawny than Summer remembered. She was wearing a black tank-top, with white undershirt and purple shorts.

"I wasn't expecting to see you here. I would've got you a gift."

"No thanks. You being here is enough of a gift." Summer replied with a fair amount of sarcasm in her voice. She'd received numerous 'gifts' from Lia. The last one was a bag of angry badgers. So she wasn't Summer's favourite cousin, to say the least.

"So what are you doing here Lia?" Briar chimed in, trying to smooth the nerves. Just the thought of listening to their conversation made Summer want to pulled her hair out. She tried, desperately, to get out of her sister's grip, but nothing worked.

By the time the airship landed, Summer was considering the pros and cons of a lobotomy via sword. When Briar's hold loosened, Summer took the chance and left immediately. Sadly, she couldn't just run away, as much as she wanted to. So she decided to just map out the area instead and try to think of an escape plan.

When the opening ceremony started she stayed at the back of hall. Trying to keep a low profile, and be as far away from Lia as possible. She actually spotted the Jaune Arc guy among the teachers. Oh, she's gonna have some words for him!

"You're Summer Schnee, right?" an unfamiliar voice interrupted her thought process. It was a boy around her age, blonde hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black leather coat, which Summer could've sweared he spent hours looking for in a leather store.

"Yeah..." she answered hesitantly. Usually when someone addressed her like this, they wanted talk about her family, a topic she wanted to avoid at all cost. "What do you want?"

"Just wondering... Why aren't you joining the others?"

"I have my reasons."

"Is it a girl thing?" that made Summer chuckle.

"No, I've just had enough of my cousin's bullshit." she explained. "What about you? Why have you joined the others?"

"Lots of reasons... Mostly because they're a bunch of idiots who don't even know how the word 'Huntsmen' is spelled." Summer raised an eyebrow sceptically.

"Speaking from the heart, I see..."

"Well, I thought I was speaking from my mouth, but what do I know."

"No one wanted you around, did they?" for a second, he had a strange expression on his face.

"It was mutual..." he mumbled. He sounded a bit offended.

"... some first year students will be provided temporary accommodations, while the dormitory is being expaned." with that the Headmistress' speach was over, so Summer decided to leave.

"Well, it's good to know that the future of our world is in the hands of people like you. I never felt more secure." she said sarcasticaly, before walking away.

"Well, screw you too!" she heard, but decided to ignore it.

It was around 11 p.m. Most students were sleeping in their pajamas. Summer didn't have that, so she just took of her belt and boots. It's not like she didn't sleep in her clothes countless times. She knew she'll have to go sleep soon. Her nerves just needed it. She spent the afternoon trying to call Matt's mother, Julia. Unfortunately she lived out in the boonies, so it wasn't very surprising that it didn't work. Summer came to the conclusion, that she'll have to use the CCT. Anyway, she was about to go to bed, when Briar appeared, still in her normal outfit.

"So, how are you?" Summer had to take a deep breatht so as not to snap at her.

"Bri, don't you have your own friends you'd rather annoy?" she asked with a bit of edge in her voice.

"But I want to be with you. We have a lot of catching up to do." Summer let out a sigh. This is gonna be long. "First question: Who was that guy with you?" Summer opened her mouth to deny the ridiculous assumption, but Briar wouldn't let her. "Oh! There he is! Introduce me!" the smaller girl grabbed her arm, again, and started dragging her towards Coat Boy.

"Bri! This not what you think it is! He's not my boyfriend! I barely know him!" Summer protested, without much avail.

"Then it's time you get to!"

"Please! Briar! I beg you!"

"Hi, my name is Briar Rose." she said. Coat Boy looked up from his skroll, with a strange expression on his face.

"Vic." he answered, not really understanding the situation. "Sorry, but I didn't order a prostitute." Briar's jaw dropped.

"I'm not a... I'm a student to." she finally managed to find her words after a bit of silence.

"Oh, my apologise. I should've instantly recognized your traditional Huntress skirt and stockings."

"This is a combat skirt!"

"Yeah, I'm sure you make it good use of it when you're in a 'sword- fight'". he continued. Briar's face was a darker shade of red than the tips of her hair.

"I'M NOT..."

"I'LL YOU TO SHUT UP!" Lia appeared in front of them. "It's not enough that you're standing on my mattress, but you have to be so loud that the whole school can hear you?!"

"ENOUGH!" Summer snapped." Can we just avoid each other from now on? If I'm gonna be trapped here I don't wanna be surrounded by this shit the entire time!"

"You think I want to be here?!" Lia yelled, now completly lacking her trademark shit-eating grin. "I was forced here by my parents! I don't give a fuck about any this!"

"Wait really?" Summer.

"Ladies!" the Headmistress interrupted. They were so cought up in their argument, that they didn't even notice her before. "It is past curfew, so please keep your voice down and go to sleep." she ordered, looking over them with a murderous glare, then left the three girls in stunned silence. In the end, it was Summer who spoke first.

"Okay, I'm going to sleep." she stated and went back to her mattress. Tomorrow wass going to be a long day.

A/N: So just to be clear, Summer and Briar are Whiterose kids and Lia is a Bumbleby kid. The Headmistress is Glynda in this fic.
