Lucille & Scott + Kiss on Forehead
She was drawn toward the sound of crying. Her back had only been turned for a moment, just long enough to head to the bathroom and hurry back; there was no rest when you were pregnant with your second child.
There was one thing she'd learnt from her first child, and that was that things always happened the moment you turned your back.
That was the case this time, and Lucille rushed back out to the yard to see what had made her son sound so upset.
Scott was sitting in the middle of his toys on the grass, just where she'd left him and told him to stay until she'd gotten back. However, it was clear that he had moved as he was now sporting a bloody knee, which was obviously the source of his crying.
"Oh, Scotty. What happened?" Lucille sat down next to her son. He immediately curled into her side, and she rubbed his back as his tears soaked her shirt.
"I f-fell," he choked out between sobs, and her heart broke at his upset.
She took a look at his knee, and it didn't seem that bad. Just a scrape and some dirt from where he'd fallen in the mud. Nothing she couldn't make better.
"Let's get you fixed up shall we?" She moved to scoop him up into her arms, and then carried the two year old inside.
Scott's cries had already died down to a few hiccups by the time she had placed him on a chair in the kitchen. She got to cleaning up his knee as quickly and painlessly as she could, and when she was done, she placed a dinosaur band-aid over it.
"All better." She leant back from where she had been crouched in front of him, and gave him a once over to make sure that was the only injury he had.
Scott wiped his eyes and looked down at his knee. When his eyes lifted to meet hers again, the sadness that had once been there was replaced by happiness. The only trace that remained that he had once been crying were the tear tracks still on his cheeks. Besides that, he already appeared to be back to his usual self
"My brave little boy." She gave him a kiss on the forehead and stood up. "You'll be a great big brother."
"Really?" A small smile started to stretch across his face as his eyes glistened. Ever since he found out he was getting a younger sibling, he talked about how he was going to be the 'bestest big brother in the world.' It meant a lot to him, and she had no doubt he would live up to the role.
"Definitely." She carded her fingers through his hair, then held out her hand for him. "Now, do you want to go back outside to play?"
"Yeah!" Scott nodded enthusiastically and took her hand. He jumped from the chair, scraped knee already forgotten about, and the two of them headed back out into the yard.
