"Devil Kit, where are you going?!" Devil Kit's mom asked worriedly as she ran up to him, making him jump. His little brother trotted alongside her.
"I can't stay here, everyone hates m- me and-" Before he could finish, his mom brushed her tail against his flank.
"If you're leaving, then we're leaving with you!" Said Solar Kit.
"Yeah, we'll make sure you aren't alone," said his mother with the warmest smile you can think of.
"Then f- follow me," Devil Kit sprinted off, his brother and mother following along. He didn't know where he was going, but wherever it was, it would be a lot better than Windclan.
Devil Kit, Solar Kit, and Bronze Fur curled together for warmth.
"We will make it to where we're going to go, Devil Kit," Bronze Fur assured him.
"Whether it takes longer than expected, we will make sure we get a better clan than Windclan," said his brother. It was then they smelled the unexpected scent of Windclan warriors. Devil Kit strained his ears, hearing the paws of warriors pounding against the ground. He quickly awoke his mother.
"Mom! Mom, th- they're after us!" He yelped, trying to lightly nip her to get her up. Solar Kit was already up, working with Devil Kit to get their mom up.
"H-Hmm?" She groaned, getting to her paws.
"They're after u-us, they're going t-to take us back to c-camp!" Devil Kit said in a hurry. They all sprinted side by side, hearing the rumbling of paws slamming against the ground get louder and louder. The trio quickly cut corners, not realizing there was a cliff ahead. They quickly skidded to a stop.
"W-We're cornered," stuttered out Devil Kit.
"No we're not!" Said Bronze Fur as she picked up the kits by their scruff, Solar Kit and Devil Kit tightly hugging each other.
"HOLD ON KITS!" She said as she leaped off the cliff, holding her breath that she wouldn't break a bone. She felt a wave of relief wash over her as she felt her body being submerged into the fast-moving water. Bronze Fur returned to the surface, holding her kits above the water. They gasped for air, claws digging into each other's pelt. Bronze Fur paddled against the current of water slowed her down, setting her kits at the bank. She dug her claws into the sand, hauling herself up out of the water as she shook her body, shaking most of the water off. Bronze Fur licked her kits, getting the excess water off of them.
"We did it!" She said.
"We did do it… We're capable of anything now," Devil Kit laughed out, smiling wide. As they looked up, they saw the Windclan warriors looking down at them, shaking their heads in disappointment. The trio cuddled each other, purrs echoing through the lake. Devil Kit left the cuddle, lapping up some water from the lake. The smells of Shadowclan wreaked from the body of water, making his fur bristle.
"What territory are we in, mom?" Solar Kit asked.
"I- I don't. . . Know. . ." She said. Where were they? She had never been past the Windclan border. Devil Kits heart dropped as he heard faint growling echoing in the distance.
"Hey, momma, I don't think we're in this revene a- alone…" He warned, giving her a fear-filled nudge as the growling grew louder. Bronze Fur quickly whipped around, straining her ears. She wanted to hear anything, another growl, a voice, a laugh, anything! Anything to let her know where this… thing… was. Suddenly, a flash of dark black fur ran through the bushes nearby. She quickly unsheathed her claws, hiding her kits.
"Momma, w- what is that?" Devil Kit asked quietly, so quietly in fact that his mother could barely hear. She didn't answer, claws digging into the soft soil as her eyes skidded across the mountains and bushes.
"Shh…" She finally said.
"We have no idea how good this… things… hearing is…" She added, pulling the two kits closer to her stomach. Another flash of fur zoomed by, but it was more visible. Still black, but she could make out the animal. She slowly bent down, quietly talking.
"When… I… Start… To… Run…" She said.
"You… run… with… me…" She added, making a bolt for it. They followed after, fear filling their paws as they pounded against the ground. Growling and snapping could be heard behind them. Solar Kit yelped when he felt the fangs of the unknown animal graze his tail. Devil Kit quickly dove into Solar Kit, knocking her brother out of the way of the jaws of the… dog.
