Seven Day Vacation.
Chapter 2
Twilight specks descended from the swirling vortex above Ordon Spring, soon converging into the shape of a wolf. Midna would fly out of the portal a few seconds later and plop herself onto Link's back. He turned his head slightly to growl at her, not in a threatening way of course. At this point it's just a habit. The wolf's growling died down as he let out a huff of air.
"You know, you could have warned me." The wolf stated through their telepathic link, which of course was thanks to Midna's powers.
The imp shrugged her shoulders. "I could have, but I know you would have wanted to go to this place anyway. You always do whenever we take a break from our quest. Plus, you seem exhausted, so I thought you didn't want to waste time."
"That doesn't mean you have to transform me out of the blue…" He turned his head away from Midna. The wolf started to make his way out of the blessed spring, his paws making ripples in the water. "You know I hate that." He finally reached the path, turning to his right to head for his house in Ordon. While he has gotten used to his transformation in recent months, that doesn't mean it still doesn't cause him pain, or if he isn't prepared for it: completely dazed.
Midna's features softened a bit, feeling remorseful for her hasty action. "Sorry, guess I got a little excited back there." She raised a hand and started to stroke the fur on his head, while occasionally giving a few scratches behind the ear as means of an apology. Link panted gleefully in response. Midna kicked herself mentally for her rash actions. She should have come up with a better way to avoid him asking what's wrong. Like either a topic change or say she had a stomachache. But no, she had to hurt him further. She does want to make up for her cruelty, she really does. But she isn't sure how to proceed.
She has become nicer to him for the last five months after Zant's ambush, like being kind to him whenever they talk, helping him traverse Hyrule via her portals and even cheering him on like when he fought that Darknut in the Temple of Time: ("I know you have what it takes to beat him, Link!") But is stuff like that enough to make up for her sins? She isn't sure, nor does it feel like it's anything close to enough. But there isn't much she can do, especially with an imp's body that tires way too damn easily. Then she could at least help Link fight more, instead of only guiding his fangs and claws to their enemies. If only there was a way to get more energy...
"Midna?" Link asked quietly, head turned slightly to Midna and his eyes softened in concern. While she was deep in thought, a frown appeared on her pale lips again. Just like back at the lake. "You okay?"
She was taken out of her thoughts, placing her free hand on her forehead and rubbed it slightly as if it to ease her pain. "Yeah, just got a headache." The imp lied, but like what was stated before: She doesn't want to ruin her vacation with Link by talking about this topic, plus she doesn't even know how to talk about this with him. "I'll be fine." She waved her hand back and forth in a dismissive manner.
Link stared at the imp for a few moments, trying to see if she was telling the truth or not. He could tell something was bothering her, but it does seem clear she doesn't want to talk about it. At least right now. So it's best to drop it and wait until she is ready. The wolf let out a sigh. "If you say so…" Their journey back to his house was shrouded in silence. Midna leaped off his back once they were in front of his house, she plucked the Shadow Crystal from his forehead. The beast was engulfed in Twilight energy, his form grew and contorted into his human form before the energy dissipated into specks. He cracked his neck from side to side, his eyes closed contently before putting left arm behind his head and stretching his right. "Honestly, I am looking forward to this week." Link turned to face his house and scaled up the ladder.
"Yeah, same here." She floated alongside the warrior, the Twili's face was slowly caving into fatigue as a yawn escaped her pale lips. "But let's worry about that in the morning." She leaned against his shoulder once he was up the ladder, her ruby irises threatening to close.
Link turned his head towards the imp resting on his shoulder, smiling at the adorable sight. Her arms slowly wrapped around his as her head rested at the top of said shoulder. He's definitely glad their relationship has gotten better after obtaining the Master Sword, she seems kinder, and sometimes even affectionate. Like the time she placed her clawed hand on his cheek back at the desert, asking him if he will still accompany her. And, of course he agreed. There was no way he would abandon her now, not after all they went through together. It was a small gesture, but so far, it's one his favorite moments with her.
"Link, hurry up and open the bloody door before I bust it down..." Midna slurred out of exhaustion, growing slightly annoyed that he was procrastinating. She wanted to get to sleep damn it!
Link quickly snapped back to reality. "Oh, uh… my bad." He let out a nervous chuckle before fishing for the key to his house, once he acquired it, he shoved it into the keyhole and turned it. The door soon unlocked and Link opened it. Once the duo was inside the bizarre tree dwelling, the warrior closed the door and locked it.
Midna snapped her fingers, two pairs of blankets, pillows and large white, cotton bags filled with straw to act as mattresses popped into existence as some Twilight Specks surrounded them before they disappeared,Midna's pocket dimension definitely had its perks. She got off Link's shoulder and began assembling her 'bed' for the night. "You know…" She grabbed her pillow and fluffed it up a bit before placing it down, wrapping her blanket around her small form. "I still don't know why you don't have a proper bed. Doesn't it get uncomfortable just sleeping on the floor?" She finally put her head down onto the feathered filled bag.
Link set up his sleeping accommodations as well, laying right next to her. He put his hands behind his head as gazed up at the ceiling, his eyelids were half-shut. "Sometimes, but I have gotten used to sleeping like this." Link yawned, eyes fully closed. "It's not bad…"
Midna's eyes doing the same, a small smirk gracing her lips. "Pfft, you would think so, farm-boy. Sleeping on straw-filled bags? This must be the life of 'luxury'." Even when she's almost asleep, her voice still somehow oozes sarcasm.
Link responded with a chuckle. "Tell you what, once I get enough repees: I'll buy you a 'proper' bed, your highness." If only he knew the truth…
"I think I will hold you to that, wolf boy." Midna giggled in delight, she is so glad she has rubbed off on him with her sarcastic nature. Much to her joy so he won't be such a stick in the mud, but also to her bane when he gets the better of her. "Good night, Link."
"Good night, Midna." Within moments, they both fell into the depths of the slumber.
