Early morning turned to late afternoon when Danny and Vlad landed in Paris. To say the ride to the mansion was tense was a large overstatement. Vlad read up on documents while Danny looked around the city, glancing up in wonder at the Eiffel Tower, thinking of what the view was like up that high.
"Wait," he started, he looked over to Vlad, "I just barely started learning French. How is this going to work?"
"Your ghost half will translate automatically when you listen and speak. Seeming as if you can fluently speak."
"Is that how you're able to take over other businesses over seas?"
"It helps keep languages sorted and from overlapping. Not everything I do is ill intent."
"I Have yet to see anything as not taking advantage."
"Of course I'm taking advantage, just not with ill intent."
Danny scowled at him as they stopped at the bottom of the mansion steps. The large doors were swung open by the large gorilla man that drove them there. Once inside, he felt cold at the black and white colors. Phantom would fit right in, possibly camouflaged himself if it wasn't for his glowing green eyes. At the top of the grand staircase was a large portrait of a man and his son. The man did not show emotions but the boy did, looking out in sadness. Then he wondered where the mother ws. Below the portrait stood three people, two were the same as the portrait just…brighter. The third was a tall lady with glasses and a tablet in hand.
"Mr. Agreste, good afternoon." Vlad greeted.
Gabriel looked down at his visitors, but ignored the business man to look at the teenager who was watching him carefully. "Is this the boy?"
Vlad held in the scowl at being by-passed, "Yes, Daniel Fenton."
"Danny is fine, sir." he was startled by the immediate glare his way. As the three came closer down the steps a shiver traveled down his spine. Not like his ghost sense, more like an instinct of danger. Seeing Vlad narrow his eyes at them in the corner of his vision made him realize that it wasn't a fluke. There was something wrong and his ghost side didn't like it.
"We'll take him in for the summer as long as he obeys the rules." Gabriel agreed, "Nathalie will go over them and Adrien will show you to your room." he turned back up the steps, disappearing through the door on the left.
"Daniel, I will be staying at the Grand Paris Hotel. Call if there is anything you need."
"Whatever, Vlad." Danny glared at the older halfa as he left.
"Danny." he turned back to face Nathalie. "You will be sharing Adrien's schedule. Starting tomorrow morning for school." she began tapping on the tablet, "Anything you want to do outside of schedule must be approved before hand. Disappearing and late night are prohibited." she casted a quick glance over to Adrien who rubbed at his nick. Something Danny knew he does consistently when nervous. "That will be all." she left the same way that Gabriel did, leaving the two teens to stand awkwardly at each other.
"I should probably show you to your room now." Adrien stated leading up the steps. "Sorry, we don't usually have guests for a long period of time."
"With this many rooms, you're kidding."
"No, those are for the staff in case of severe weather."
"so, are the rules to you as well, or just because I'm here?"
"I'm supposed to follow them, but I don't like being cooped up at home." Adrien stopped at a long hallway. "This will be your room." he pointed to the reserved plat. "I'm right here." he opened the door. "You're welcome to come in."
Danny shrugged as he followed, his eyes going wide as he took in the room. A halfpipe, rock wall, game system…"You game?" he asked, ignoring the rest of the room.
"Uh, yeah, Ultra Mecha Strike is what I mainly play." Adrien caught Danny's confusion, "You don't know what that is, do you?"
"No, I usually play Doom."
"What's Doom?"
"Okay, you show me Ultra Mecha Strike and I'll show you Doom."
Adrien smiled, ecstatic, "Agreed."
The gaming session lasted a whole two hours. First Adrien coaching Danny and giving tips as they play, then the two switched while Danny watch Adrien play. With Adrien distracted, the halfa took a better look around the room. Something else was on the edge of his senses but he couldn't figure out what. The game over screen brought Danny back to the present.
"Pretty good game." Adrien stated as he looked back at his guest.
"Isn't this a little much for a bedroom?" Danny immediately asked, before wincing, "Sorry."
"It's fine. It really is, but father wants to keep me safe."
More like a prison! Danny thought.
"You don't seem surprised."
"Uh, my friend Sam is loaded but she keeps quiet about it to prevent fake friendships."
"Oh, that's actually a good idea."
"Yeah, any tips on anti-establishment you can get from her."
"Why?"
"Sam, would be against this and rebelling."
"I can't see any rich parents being okay with that."
Danny snorts at that, "They're not. Sam is an ultra-recyclo-vegetarian and a goth whose parents still live in the fifties. They can't change her choices no matter how hard they try."
"Ultra what?"
"She doesn't eat anything with a face on it."
Why do I have the feeling that Plagg would get along great with her? Adrien thought. "I'll pass on that for now."
"let me know if you change your mind. She'll be happy to help." he smiled back.
Adrien's door opened to Nathalie who walked in with a short older gentleman in a Hawaiian shirt.
"Adrien, it's time for your Chinese lesson. Danny, you should head to your room to unpack."
"Um, okay."
The door shut allowing the two to speak freely.
"You have a guest?" Fu asked, sitting on the couch.
"Danny Fenton." Adrien began as he watched Wayzz and Plagg reunite. "he'll be here till the end of summer."
"I don't like him." Plagg called.
"You don't know him." Adrien said.
"I don't like that Vlad guy more."
"what don't you like?"
"There's something wrong with them."
"Hmm." Master Fu looked towards his own Kwami. "Wayzz, did you feel anything wrong?"
"There was something wrong with the boy, but not dark."
"It would be best to keep an eye on him. Be careful."
The two began the lesson.
Meanwhile, Danny began to unpack as he chatted with Sam and Tucker on his laptop. "Seriously, Adrien is basically prisoned in his own house. Sam would be rebelling."
"I'll help him!" she responded.
"I already offered, he declined, for now."
"For now." she repeated smiling.
"What are they having you do, dude?"
"I'm actually going to be shadowing the life of Adrien Agreste till the end of summer."
"Wait, did you just say Agreste?!" Sam shouted, then a smile appeared on her face.
"Yeah, why?"
"I might have an idea later."
Danny looked towards Tucker who shrugged. "Only thing that really sucks is that I go back to school tomorrow morning."
"Paris schools run to July unlike that states that run to the beginning of June."
"How do you know that?"
"I have distant relatives that go to Francoise-Dupont. I keep tabs on them."
"It's getting late. We should get going."
"But dude, there's no more school!"
"Yeah, for you." Danny shut off his laptop and climbed into bed.
