CHAPTER TWO - You've got me on this plan
"What?!" He exclaimed immediately feeling somewhat offended by the words that was spoken from Batman's mouth. He was not at the slightest prepared for them, but since they had already been spoken, he had no intention of agreeing with them. But wait a second, why was he supposed to become a scientist (purely theoretically even an electrician, and that's even worse!) to a group of some youth heroes?! After all, he could have sworn that a few years ago, while he was still in college, he had promised himself that he was done with any superhero related business or matters, if you could call it that!
So, only grabbing his head and looking down at the floor with the most envious and resigned look he could get, he plunged into his thoughts, promising himself that when he really managed to get out of this chaos somehow, he would not be here for a long time and would return to work quietly at a research station as a would-be astronaut.
At the moment, however, from his state of misery and despair Batman's voice led him out, in which Danny evidently heard clear evidence of surprise, despitle taht Batman himself was standing in front of him!
"Did you not get in-depth information related to your employment?" He asked once again piercing the other with his eyes, to which the latter, swallowing his saliva, merely nodded his head, standing upright. (We'll ignore the fact that he felt shivers down his spine again, it seemed to be a normal thing in the presence of a famous hero-) "Strange, I thought someone was obliged to give you the full terms of the contract before he brought you here." The eyes from under his black mask, covered with white contacts, for sure, after leaning slightly to the side, focused their gaze on standing behind Kid Flash (Or was it Little Flash?) his mentor, Flash.
The superhero thought only showing his confusion, first looked around so that later, when more pairs of eyes turned their attention to him, he could point his hand at himself. Only when Batman looked at him with even more envious eyes (Danny did not even know that it was possible-), he seemed to suddenly remind himself something and after a slight snap on the head he replied with a simple "Ooooooooh...!".
From this moment Danny knew very well that he really must have found himself in a lot of trouble, when Batman himself, walking up to him and not even touching him, made him feel a sense of terror pulse right throught his body when he said the words.
"We need to talk." At this point, even the Pariah Dark seemed to be a trifle compared to Batman.
--
This is how Danny found himself sitting in some not necessarily friendly room, in which on a white table there were some kind of folders on the opposite side, which certainly contained some information. He had to make really big effort to not reach for them with his hand and see what was inside them, but after a short reflection, he decided that he would not risk his life by doing such stupid thing.
So he waited patiently at the table, his anxious gaze wandering around the room, while his leg trembled unpleasantly under the furniture. He really did not know what he got himself into by agreeing to accept this offer, and yet he only wanted to see the technology hidden behind the development of new Zeta-Tubes!
Fortunately (Or maybe a not?) he was freed from his thoughts when Batman first went through the previously closed door after opening it, so that Flash and Black Canary could join him. Unfortunately, they closed a piece of plank behind them again, so only that his escape route was gone without arousing any unnecessary suspicions.
"Daniel Damien Davis, right?" Batman's voice pull him suddenly out from his thoughts, and he did not even know when he appeared in front of him, sitting on the chair opposite him.
"Uh-Yeah..! But I prefer-Ah, I prefer when someone calls me Danny-" The fragment about how he was scraed for his life (well, at least half of it) when he answered the Dark Knight's question was deep burried in his thoughts. But when he received absolutely nothing to his statement, some percent of the unease that had been dormant in him had drastically increased.
"Your files show that you were invited here by Barry Allen, right?" When, after looking up his eyes for the first time since Batman came here, he didn't even have to make any extra effort to appear scary, Danny knew he was deep in a dark hole. "So you also say that you were not presented with more detailed terms of the contract before you started working?"
"Uh, yes sir Batman sir..?" The atmosphere that had thickened rapidly after his utterance of the words had not taken on any of the pleasant depth that he hoped they would be able to achieve in some time. (Well, hope was the mother of fools, and the mother loves her children so there was still a little chance that he would be set free-!)
"I won't lie, but you found yourself... in not that pleasant situation."
"Not-Not that pleasant...?" - Swallowing Daniel "Damien" James "Davis" Fenton was already well aware that he was signing his testament papers.
"You must realize that the location you are in would not otherwise be disclosed to you if you had not signed the confidentiality documents beforehand." Saying this, as the mentioned young adult later guessed, he was presented with the papers just discussed, on which there was a fairly extensive list of necessary data and information about his current situation, or rather the situation in which he would be after signing them.
"And...?" He asked, knowing that this was not the end of monologue from the hero sitting across him.
"You have two options." Saying this, he adjusted his hand which were previously on the table, so that after redirecting one of them to his other, with now folded hands on the furniture below he could continue his speech. "The first one is that you could leave this place, but we will have to hypnotize you with a Martian Manhunter help, so that he can erase any memories of this place..."
"Wai-!"
"Or." Danny froze immediately feeling that once again today a cold shiver pierces rthrought him, which he has not felt for many years. At some point it reminded him of his old times when he still fought with ghosts in his teenage years. "You could accept our offer." Moving his hands back to the folder in front of him, he offered it to Danny himself with one simple gesture of his hand, so only that he could at first hesitantly look at them with his eyes and after some period of time just pick them up to his own hands so he could begin to look throught them carefully.
It took him some time before he have finished reading thorough the terms of the contract that would apply to him after signing it, but fortunately they had time. During all those several minutes (Maybe even hours? It was easy for him to lose track of time when he was reading something) that he spent carefully leafing through these paper, trying to find any loopholes in their system. He was positively surprised thought when he didn't find any of them.
Even to his surprise, the League offered him security once he agreed to their terms. He just didn't like... One thing that wasn't described in more detail and not included in the files.
"Will this be written in my CV?" He asked unexpectedly, without even looking up for a moment from the papers he was still reading.
This question must have surprised the two superheroes standing behind the Dark Knight quite a bit, because they looked at each other as if trying to understand the motive behind his words. However, the aforementioned negotiator, who tried to come to an agreement with him, didn't reveal any emotion on his face, but it was not that Danny cared about it at the moment.
"Unfortunately, we cannot risk your safety. If this information would be included in your file and unwanted people got access to it, you would be in danger and at the same time an easy target for criminals and villains who want any information about us or our proteges."
Danny won't say that he had to hold back the hollow laugh in his depths, related to being, as it has been described somewhere in the files, a "defenseless civilian". Although, when you think about it, it wasn't that they knew what or who he really was, so he didn't blame them in the slightest. On the contrary, looking at it under the lens of his present position, he was able to say that for the price of fixing and dealing with future defects that will occur in the base of young heroes, providing him with as much anonymity and concealment as possible was tempting, but above all profitable.
He had no intention of leaning out after the last time, he had learned this lesson.
"Thank God..." He muttered to himself, therefore he was relieved to speak again after some time. "I'll be able to keep my previous job, right?"
"Being a scientist related to the study of readings sent in samples from other planets?" A different voice asked this time, but Danny didn't have to look up to guess that this one belonged to Flash. Although... On the other hand, he was strangely familiar.
"Someone read my files." He replied when a sly smile appeared on his face, so that after taking a pen from his side pocket, he could first hesitate and at this moment only click it from on the top, producing a characteristic sound.
"As long as it does not interfere with your present job of being responsible for the Mount Justice, you would be able to continue your original profession."
"Perfect." Not even a moment devoted to the precise noticing by the three heroes, when the man in front of them signed the given papers in one and agile movement in all the necessary places, so only that he could move them away from him. Leaning back in his chair and sighing as if from exhaustion, he relaxed his muscles and closing his eyes, ended their little meeting with simple words.
"I hope you are realise of what you just agreed to." He said calmly, however it was impossible to read from his tone whether he would be responsible for the future chaos that would arise, or whether he would be the cause of it, so there was nothing for them to do but wait.
Greetings mortals!
It is I, the author of the story you're reading.
Okay, so first thing first - Holy muffin, what the honk?
Like, I didn't expect at all that someone (Literally ANYONE-) would read this fanfiction I'm writing-
Don't get me wrong but it's actually the first time when I've got a really little piece of plot planned and the rest I'm doing as one wise person said: ,Just go for it and think later about consequences".
I wasn't ready that someone would be willing to read my crackfic (Because this is definitely what this story is, and don't even argue with me) and actually like it??
It's just me projecting my dumb idea that I've got on like, maybe 1am while washing dishes (Don't ask, they just needed to be c l e a n) and I don't even know how it will turn out in the end???
But I'm thankful thought for all the support, it's really helping me to keep going with this story and try my best to write it as good as it could be!
Also, as you've might noticed there might be a lot of grammar and spelling or just in general there might be some mistakes - That's because English is not my first language!
I didn't even bother to find a beta-reader (Because who would be willing to beta-read story about a fandom that is long time ago nearly dead???) because this fandom is as old as my computer, but if someone is willing to help me with this kind of things I would be thankful!
And now shoo, go outside rather than read a story about Danny being scientist and idiot at the same time, shoo!
~ Beware, Haven!
PS: I'm still learning how to the honk one is supposed to use this cursed servis (Is there even an option to reply to other comments, he???) because not gonna lie, even thought I'm using it for past three years, this is the first time I've published something there. So like, I'm sorry for eventual mistakes, I'm still learning this application and website potential-
