AHOY TATERS AND WELCOME TO CH 2 OF CRAZY BLOOD! LET ME START BY REMINDING YOU THAT THIS WASN'T WRITTEN BY ME BUT BY A FRIEND WHO WISHES TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS AND I AM POSTING IT ON MY ACCOUNT AT HIS REQUEST.
THAT BEING SAID, PLEASE ENJOY THE CHAPTER AND ALSO I DONT OWN MY HERO ACADEMIA!
Izuku shifted constantly, trying his best not to panic. Although he'd worked so hard to get to this point, he still felt plagued by self-doubt. There were so many factors at play here - especially the other test-takers. He and Ibara had become quite a team, but he couldn't be sure that the others weren't even more impressive. The number of applicants this year was bigger than he expected, so there was sure to be more competition.
He could hear the chatter all around him. Most were marveling at the realistic replica city that would be their testing ground. Others were discussing strategies for getting the most points.
Izuku himself was surprised by the simplicity of the entrance exam. The fake city would be teaming with combat robots, and the applicants simply had to destroy as many as possible, with stronger 'bots being worth more points. It seemed to heavily favor people with quirks suited for direct combat - but then, every hero had to be able to fight villains, if necessary.
Izuku jumped a bit when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Ibara smiled at him kindly. "I'm certain that you're anxious, my lord. I know how you always try to think of every possibility. But take heart. I, your most loyal and devoted follower, will see to it that we succeed. You deserve this."
Izuku smiled back. Every now and then, Ibara would suddenly become so calm, so serene. Izuku liked to think that those moments were when the real Ibara peeked through - the part of her that hopefully remained unaffected by his quirk.
"Wait, isn't that the yandere villain kid?"
Izuku groaned. He hadn't been under any illusion that he wouldn't be recognized here, but he'd hoped that nobody would say anything out loud.
"Yeah, I think you're right. I think that's the girl he enslaved with his quirk."
"Yeesh, how could they let him in? It's not like he could actually be a hero, with a quirk like that."
Izuku turned to Ibara to tell her to stay calm, but she was already behind the two gossips, vines wrapping around their throats.
"My glorious master is the kindest, bravest, most heroic person on the planet! It would tarnish my status as his number one follower to ignore such blasphemy! It would be better for each of you to never speak again, than to let such words escape your lips."
Izuku hastily reached out to her with vines of his own, coaxing her back and gently prying her vines open. He'd learned long ago that trying to force her away was pointless. She was much, much stronger than him, and unbelievably stubborn. But being touched by his vines helped her relax. She claimed it had something to do with them being "a symbol of their connection."
"Hey, hey, hey! Is something going on down there? I'd better not see any fighting down there, or I'm gonna have to start passing out disqualifications!"
Izuku looked up to see a blond man with an outrageous, slicked-back hairdo staring down at them from on top of the wall surrounding the city. He immediately recognized him as Present Mike, a pro hero who was proctoring the exam.
"O-Oh, no no no! No fighting here, just a little disagreement. Everything's resolved though, right?"
The two examinees looked uneasily between Izuku, Ibara, and Present Mike. They obviously wanted to speak up and get him and Ibara disqualified, but didn't dare risk being attacked again.
"Y-Yeah. We're good."
"Well allllllright then! I guess now is as good a time as any. Let's go, everybody!"
The applicants looked at each other quizzically, unsure if he meant what they thought he meant.
"What are you waiting for, a countdown? That's not gonna happen in a real villain fight! Go, go go!"
What followed was absolute chaos. Applicants surged forward into the testing grounds, running, leaping, and even flying to get into the lead. A few recklessly used whatever projectiles were at their disposal to strike the robots that were already coming around the corner, nearly hitting the other applicants.
Izuku wasted a few precious moments taking in the spectacle before realizing that he was getting left behind. Ibara was ready before he was, and pulled him forward. "Come on, holy one! We must hurry!"
Izuku came to his senses and rushed ahead with her. The robots near the entrance had already all been destroyed, and the other examinees had started to spread out throughout the fake city. Izuku could hear clanking metal and explosions all around. The pair headed in a direction that was a bit quieter, hoping that it meant there were robots that hadn't been discovered yet there.
Just as they turned a corner, a particularly large robot with a painted number "3" lashed out at them. Ibara reacted quickly, wrapping its arm in vines and lifting it off the ground. She brought it down hard, smashing it against the pavement.
Izuku pumped his fist. "Nice going, Ibara! That's three points already!"
Ibara didn't respond, though. She raised the mangled robot up again and started swinging it around violently, pulverising everything around her.
"How DARE you attack my master! You sinful, depraved, heathen construct! Die! Die! DIE!"
"Ibara? Ibara, stop! We won, we won! It's down!"
Ibara finally dropped the robot, which now resembled a car put through a compactor more than a robot.
"Um… M-My apologies, lord. I saw it twitch. We must be cautious, or we may leave a robot functioning and not get points for it."
Izuku sighed inwardly. This might become a problem.
They moved on, and to Izuku's surprise, things weren't going too poorly for them. Ibara insisted on "double tapping" every robot that tried to attack him, which was most of them. Still, although they could have been going faster, Ibara's powerful vines made destroying robots a snap.
"That's 21 robots already, master, for a total of 35 points! We're doing spectacularly!"
Izuku grinned. "Yeah! We make a great team. I really think we- wait."
Izuku furrowed his brow, thinking. "The entrance exam is for individuals not teams. So… Wait! How many of the villain bots did I destroy?"
Frantically, he thought back to each encounter. None.
Judging from her expression, Ibara had reached the same conclusion, but tried to hide it. "U-Um… You DID ensnare that one three blocks down..."
"And then you tore its head off! This is bad, Ibara, I haven't gotten even a single point!"
Ibara started breathing heavily. "B-But… no… I mean, a-aren't I a result of your quirk? In a sense? S-Surely, these points apply to BOTH of us."
Izuku shook his head. "I doubt they'll see it that way. I need to rack up some points, fast! Uh, let's see… Let's split up! You head over that way, and I'll-"
Ibara grabbed his arm, tears welling up in his eyes. "W-Wait, my lord! You know I can't bear to be apart from you! There must be something we can do? P-Perhaps I can aid you by holding them still while you deal the final blow! Just please, don't leave me!"
Izuku sighed. "You're right, I should have known better. Alright, we'll go with that plan."
Ibara brightened up immediately. "Of course, my master! I'll procure a robot for you immediately!"
She dug her vines into the ground, and a massive tree composed of vines sprung up out of the ground nearby. Izuku still shivered whenever he saw it, after what had happened when she first used it. Izuku couldn't replicate it, so they assumed it was a side effect of her being empowered by his quirk.
Vines short out from the tree in all directions, snaking through the streets and wrapping up everything they touched. Some of these were applicants, which she immediately released, but she managed to snag a couple of robots and bring them to her.
"Here, glorious one! There are three points between these two. A good start for-"
Both the robots started struggling, and Ibara's expression darkened. Both of them were crushed within her grasp.
"Ah! I-I'm so sorry. It's just… they LOOKED at you. Menacingly! What sort of follower would I be if I let that go unpunished?"
Izuku pulled at his own hair in frustration. "Hooookay. We're running out of time, but maybe if we-"
He was interrupted by a loud crashing sound. They both looked behind them to see another robot, but this one was bigger than all the others by far. The zero-pointer.
During the explanation of the exam, they had talked about the various robots and how many points they were worth. For the most part, bigger robots meant more points, but this one was different. This one wasn't worth any points, because it wasn't MEANT to be fought, just avoided. And Izuku and Ibara were directly in its path.
WIthout even needing to say it out loud, they both agreed to turn and run. They'd just have to figure out how to get Izuku some points as they fled. But then, Izuku heard something. It was barely audible amid the crashing and rumbling of the robot, but he definitely heard someone yelp in pain.
He looked back and saw, to his surprise, the girl who had prevented him from falling earlier. Her foot had gotten trapped beneath some rubble from a crumbling building, and she was caught directly in the path of the zero-pointer. There was no doubt about it - if she couldn't get free, she'd be crushed.
"Ibara, look! We need to help her!"
Ibara eyed the girl with disgust. "Her again? Please ignore her, master. As much as I'd love to see her as a smear on the pavement, there are teachers watching. She'll surely be fine, so let's just-"
Izuku didn't wait for her to finish. He knew he couldn't just run and leave her. He couldn't risk the teachers not intervening in time. He reached out with his vines to try and pull the rubble off of her, but it wasn't budging.
The girl looked up, shocked. "H-Hey! You need to get out of here! I-I think I'll be fine, I just- Ngh!"
Izuku didn't respond, he just focused on the rubble. He dug his vines in deep, trying to find a weak point that would allow him to split the largest piece and make it possible to move.
Ibara's nostrils flared, but she sighed with resignation. "We're going to have to have a… discussion about your obsession with this girl, my lord. But as your follower, of course I cannot stand by while you put yourself in harm's way." She reaches out with her own vines, wrapping them around one of the robot's arms, trying to distract it while Izuku worked.
The robot started at the vines for a moment, as if confused. Then, it yanked the arm back hard.
Ibara barely had time to realize what was happening. "Maybe this was a bad ideAAAAAA!" She was swung through the air at such an intense speed that her vines snapped, and she was sent flying.
Izuku gritted his teeth. "Ibara! This isn't good… But I think I've almost-"
He was cut off by the robot crushing another building. He reflexively raised his vines to protect himself from more falling debris. But a particularly large piece landed not on him, but the girl. Izuku's stomach twisted as he heard a crunch, and she screamed and spat up blood.
"No! Nonono, this is so bad. Hey, can you hear me? Hey!" He frantically tried to pull the piece off, but it was even heavier than the one he had been trying to move before.
"Rrgh! I'm so useless! I can't even save one person. C'mon, move!"
He struggled against the rubble, but nothing was working. He could see the girl struggling to breathe and coughing up more blood.
"There has to be SOMETHING I can do!"
Suddenly, everything went white.
Izuku blinked, unsure of what had just happened. "I… Did I just die?" He looked to each side, but all he could see is white going on and on forever, although he could feel a floor beneath him.
An unsettling laugh rang out behind him. "Dead? No, no, brother isn't dead."
Izuku whipped around to see a strange man in a lab coat. Inexplicably, he was hunched over a countertop set in the middle of the otherwise empty white space, examining brightly colored liquids in an assortment of test tubes and beakers.
"Who… are you? And where are we?"
The man grinned. "Why, Dr. Bob is Dr. Bob! And we're in your head, brother!" He tapped his own skull. "Don't worry about the emptiness, it's not a reflection of your intellect. Dr. Bob just doesn't find any need for needless ornamentation. It distracts him from his work."
Izuku felt overwhelmed with questions, but he could only say "Dr… Bob?"
Dr. Bob carefully poured the contents of two test tubes into a glass measuring cup, murmuring excitedly at the results. "Yes, yes, Dr. Bob. Dr. Bob is a manifestation of brother's quirk!"
Once again, Izuku can only lamely repeat the strange man. "You're… my quirk?"
Dr. Bob frowned. "Manifestation, brother. Dr. Bob isn't your quirk in its entirety. Brother's quirk is complex to manage, and difficult for brother's psyche to accept. Dr. Bob is here to ease the burden, so to speak."
"Why do you keep calling me 'brother,' then?"
Dr. Bob shrugged. "Dr. Bob thinks it's appropriate. Dr. Bob was born at the same time brother was. He grew up with brother, watched after brother. What else could brother be to Dr. Bob?"
Izuku took a moment to try and take everything in, but then a thought leapt to the forefront of his mind. "That girl! I can't waste time here, I need to save her!"
Dr. Bob nodded. "Yes, Dr. Bob understands. Saving the girl is important to him, too. No need to fear, all this is happening within mere moments, it only feels longer."
Izuku sighed with relief. "So, you'll help me? Is there a way to help her out of that rubble?"
Dr. Bob grinned eagerly. "Oh, absolutely! Rather, Dr. Bob can help this girl by helping her help herself. All brother needs to do is convert her into another yandere! I shall call her… Test Subject 1. I've vastly improved the formula after the data collected from Test Subject 0. She'll be healed of all her injuries in the course of the conversion process."
Izuku's eyes widened. "C-Convert her? No! I can't do that again! I already ruined Ibara's life by… by brainwashing her!"
Dr. Bob wagged his finger at Izuku. "Brainwashing! Brother, please don't insult Dr. Bob with such slander! Dr. Bob is a genius and a mad scientist, not a monster! It is impossible for Dr. Bob to yanderize someone against their will."
Izuku furrowed his brow, unsure of whether he believed the strange man. "But… I remember Ibara saying she suddenly felt the urge to lick up some of my blood. I thought… that meant it was some sort of mind control."
Dr. Bob walked over to Izuku and put his arm around his shoulder. "No brother, not at all! Dr. Bob did take some… liberty there, with a psychic projection. But Dr. Bob simply made her understand that she could transform and save you! Test Subject 0 made that decision all on her own. She understood that it would change her, but she accepted that."
Izuku paused, thinking this over. "So… she wanted this?"
Dr. Bob nodded sagely. "Test Subject 0 cares for you very, very deeply, brother. Dr. Bob may have… intensified her feelings to better protect you, but it's genuine. Brother doesn't need to force anything on the girl. Just ask. Dr. Bob is sure that she will gladly become Dr. Bob's next test subject. It certainly beats dying, eh?"
Before Izuku could respond, the white space was gone, and he was back in the real world. He rushed over to the girl's side, now completely sure of what he needed to do.
"Hey! I… I don't know if you can hear me, but if you can..." He used a thorn on one of his vines to cut his finger a bit. "I have a way to save you. It's… well, it's pretty drastic. Your personality would become really different, and you'd sort of be linked to me. But, you'd get stronger, too. It's your choice." He held his finger up to her.
Weakly, she tilted her head forward and licked up some of his blood. Izuku could see the change happen almost immediately. Her wounds closed up, and color returned to her cheeks. Most importantly, the rubble started to float away.
She leapt up, a broad smile on her face. "Yes! Thank you, sweetie! Wow, I feel amazing!"
Izuku sighed with relief. "I'm so glad that worked. We should-"
The girl held his face in her hands and looked him directly in the eye. "Hey, my name's Ochaco Uraraka. What's yours, sweetie pie?"
Izuku blushed fiercely. He'd gotten used to close contact with Ibara, but it felt strange and new to be this close to a different girl. "I-I'm Izuku. Izuku Midoriya."
"Izuku. It's so great to meet you!"
Izuku nodded. "You too, but we have to go. That robot's still coming"
Ochaco glared at the massive zero-pointer towering over them. "Wait a minute. That thing almost hurt you, didn't it?"
Izuku groaned. "Oh, no..."
"Hey, you! You stupid hunk of metal, I'm gonna kill you!" She touched herself on the arm and leapt into the air. Izuku did the same, assuming that like before, he'd gotten her quirk. Sure enough, he floated higher and higher.
"O-Oh, wow! This is amazing! It-"
Suddenly, his stomach twisted, and he was overcome with nausea. But it didn't look to him like Ochaco was affected.
She kept drifting in the direction she'd kicked off into, upwards and towards the robot's face. It caught notice of her once she was eye-level, apparently confused. That moment of hesitation gave her enough time to touch it with her fingers.
"This is what you get!" She reached her hand out and clenched it into a fist. Suddenly, the massive machine collapsed to the ground, sinking into the pavement. Izuku couldn't understand what was happening at first, but noticed it struggling to get up just to collapse again. It looked like it suddenly couldn't support its own weight.
Izuku reached out with his vines to pull himself down to the ground, but he still felt weightless and nauseous. "Ugh, how do I turn this off?"
"Just touch your fingertips together, sweetie!"
He did as she said, and the sensation ceased immediately. Without the nausea to distract him, he was now free to watch with fascination as the seemingly unstoppable zero-pointer's frame bent and warped, its own increased weight causing it to collapse in on itself.
Izuku's attention was drawn away as he heard a voice echo through the city. "Time's up!"
"...Huh?"
Izuku felt nauseous again, and this time it wasn't from floating. Amid all the confusion of trying to save Ochaco, he'd completely forgotten about the time limit. He hadn't managed to score a single point the whole test.
"Masteeeeer!"
Izuku turned to see Ibara swinging between buildings with her vines towards him. She landed perfectly in front of him and wrapped him in a tight embrace.
"Oh, my master, my lord! I'm so relieved that you're alright! Forgive me for my lack of faith, I should have known that you'd be more than a match for such a sinful, base machine!"
Ibara looked over Izuku's shoulder to see Ochaco glaring at her.
"My lord? This feeling… did you grant your divine blessing to another?"
Ochaco walked over, a huffy expression on her face.
"So, my darling Izuku gave you his gift, too? Well, thanks for looking after him until now, but you can step aside. I'll take care of him from now on."
Ibara gritted her teeth, vines shivering with rage. "You dare? Noone will oust me from my position as Lord Izuku's High Priestess! Know your place, newcomer."
Izuku rushed over and stepped between them. "W-Wait! Please, don't fight. I, um… You're both important to me? Nobody's replacing anybody."
Ibara still looked upset, but she lowered her vines. "...As you command, my lord. I… suppose that your divine self requires more than a single devotee." She reluctantly extended her hand to Ochaco. "I shall accept you as my lord's… acolyte. We shall serve him together."
Ochaco took her hand and shook it, her expression equally hesitant. "...Thanks. I guess you're right. My darling's too much of a man for just one woman, so it's alright if you're his side chick."
"Side chick? Why, you-"
"Hey, you kids!" Present Mike shouted from down the street. "Didja hear me? Test's over! If any of you are injured, we can get the nurse over to you, but otherwise I need you to skidaddle out of here."
Izuku sighed with relief, grateful to put off the conversation until later. He knew there would be all sorts of things to deal with, but for now he just wanted to rest.
The rest didn't last long. Once again, there was a whole mess to deal with after Ochaco became Izuku's second yandere. Fortunately, Ochaco's parents were a lot more understanding, especially since Izuku had specifically asked permission this time. Izuku also suspected that they didn't have the money for a lawsuit.
Once again, Izuku's mom was very understanding, and let Ochaco stay with them as well. Izuku spent most of the following week getting her and Ibara used to each other. They weren't exactly friends, but they did seem to be able to bond somewhat over their shared concern for Izuku.
And then, the letter came. Izuku's mother's hands were shaking as she handed him the envelope stamped with UA's official logo. It was addressed not just to Izuku, but to Ibara and Ochaco as well. Clearly, they understood the situation somewhat.
The three of them opened the letter together in Izuku's room. Well, all of their room; The two girls refused to sleep anywhere else.
The all murmured with surprise as a round metal object dropped out of the envelope, and again when some sort of holographic projection appeared above it.
"I am here! Hahaha."
Izuku gasped when he realized that it was his idol, All Might, on the screen.
"Hello to all three of you. It seems you've all found yourselves in an interesting situation. Ah, but that's not what I'm here to talk about, is it? You young, aspiring heroes want to know the results of the entrance exam, don't you?"
They all leaned forward expectantly, barely even breathing.
"You all did quite well in the written portion of the exam, but the practical exam was a bit different, wasn't it? Young Shiozaki and Young Uraraka, you both scored enough points to pass with flying colors. As for Young Midoriya… Well, I'm sorry to say, but you weren't able to score any points. The teachers discussed it, and we agreed that we can't count your friends' points as your own, even though they've been powered up by your quirk."
Izuku's heart dropped. He'd known that's how it would go, but it still hurt to hear.
"But! That's actually not the whole story. You see, there was a hidden score to this test. Rescue Points! After all, being a hero isn't just about fighting villains. No, a true hero saves people, even when they think it doesn't benefit them. And you, Young Midoriya, jumped in to save Young Uraraka in the most desperate of situations - Even with no points, little time remaining, and against an overwhelming enemy, you saved her. UA couldn't possibly turn away someone who so perfectly embodies the values we teach. Our panel of judges has awarded you 100 Rescue Points for your efforts. And that means… congratulations! You have all qualified to attend UA. We'll be sending you further details later. For now, go out and celebrate! I look forward to seeing you here."
All three of them paused for a moment in disbelief, before erupting with cheers. Izuku had tears in his eyes. Somehow, he'd made it. This was the start of his Hero Academia!
