Part Two: Counting Stars
"You totally just flipped Uraraka off, didn't you?" Izuku questioned, turning to the purplette with a nervous smile on his face. Kyouka couldn't help but snicker and nod pridefully, despite Izuku really wishing that she had more self control than that. "Kyouka…"
"Can you blame me? She deserves it. Especially after being so nosy about our business." Kyouka countered, anger becoming increasingly present on her face. "Plus… She hurt you. She has no right to be upset."
"You're right, but… To her it might seem like I lied to her." He stated, looking up into the sky thoughtfully. "I mean I told her I loved her, and now… Well, now that's no longer the case. It seems a bit rushed, no?"
Kyouka rolled her eyes and gripped onto the boy's arm tighter. "Yeah… I guess you have a point… She's still acting like a bi-"
Izuku cut her off, "Kyouka."
"I mean can you believe that!? Was he just lying, did he even really mean it at all or was he just trying to mess with my head and make me feel guilty for rejecting him?" Ochako ranted, pacing back and forth in her room as her now boyfriend, Tenya Iida was seated right on the edge of her bed.
"Ochako, it's Midoriya-kun we're talking about. He would never do that to you, he's our friend." Iida stated, watching as she stopped pacing and turned to face him sighing as she saw his caring expression.
"You're right… It's just, I don't know." Ochako continued, sitting down beside the tall bluenette. "I guess it just feels weird. Last week he was saying he loved me, and now… Deku-kun has moved on so fast! And with Jirou of all people!"
Iida quirked a brow, "What's the problem with that? We as his friends should be happy that he's moved on and found someone that can make him happy."
"But-" Ochako interjected.
"But what?" Iida interrupted, his brow furrowing as a small pang of jealousy began to rise. "Ochako if I didn't know any better I'd say that you're jealous. Are you sure it's him that you wanted all along and not me?"
Ochako's eyes widened in shock and she began to fully understand the implications of her complaints. She looked down and placed a hand onto her boyfriend's lap. "No! No… I'm sorry, you're right. I should be happy for him as his friend! I guess it just seemed like he was lying…"
"You know that's not how he is. It must have been as he said, Jirou-san must have helped him move on." He repeated, wrapping an arm around Ochako and smiling warmly at her. The brunette sighed and closed her eyes.
"Right… Jirou helped him."
"So what did you have in mind for this date?" Izuku questioned, watching as cars and other people passed by them. It seemed they were in a plaza, but their destination was still unknown to him. "You had something in mind, right?"
"Yeah, I was hoping we could take this time to explore each other's interests." Kyouka informed, pointing to a music store as she pulled the greenette along. Izuku quirked a brow but smiled nonetheless, after all this could be really fun! "Plus that movie you mentioned doesn't start until later. I checked while we were on the train."
"Oh, well, i-it still sounds like fun! I've always wondered what kind of music you like to listen to, a-aside from Deep Dope that is." Izuku informed, looking around the store as they entered. They had shelves of record players and vinyl records, as well as a small listening station on the opposite end of the entrance where a few others stood with headphones on, enjoying the music to the fullest.
"Wait… You're actually interested? Most people usually blow me off, not a lot of people are interested in 'new things'." She commented, remembering the countless times her suggestions to music were shrugged off, or even frowned upon.
"Well, I'm here to learn about you and your interests." The greenette started, pulling out a vinyl of a band titled Arctic Monkeys. "I'm open to these new things because I'm open to being with you. So show me everything that makes you, you!"
The greenette would smile so brightly that it almost blinded the purplette. It was nice to see how interested he was, and just how compassionate he was being for her. It was honestly a breath of fresh air from the usual harsh training and light bashing with the rest of her friends.
"Well, thank you… Also, you should totally listen to that album, it's great. Actually, it's one of my favorites." She said, pointing to the album in his hands. The greenette would look at the record he was holding and smile.
"Well then, let's go listen to it!" Izuku suggested, pointing to a free spot by the listening area. Kyouka would take his free hand and nod with a smile on her face.
"Yeah, let's." She replied, dragging the greenette along and unknowingly spending an hour there with him just listening to music and enjoying herself. The couple would laugh and enjoy themselves to the fullest, cracking jokes and, along with some playful banter, the two would sit there and talk, eventually losing track of time.
Izuku would learn all about the music Kyouka would show him, silently taking mental notes on everything she so excitedly talked about, and he too would occasionally share the sentiment, talking about a few of his music choices and learning what it meant to love your time with someone just talking about anything that came to mind.
Eventually the time would come where the two's movie would start and they'd have to leave the store, though they did get a few looks as they were most definitely the loudest people there. Some people even sighed in relief as they left, but they didn't care. All they could care about was each other.
"But then he had the audacity to laugh at me! HE LIKED COUNTRY OF ALL GENRES!" Izuku exclaimed, motioning his hands to exemplify his awe. All Might of all people had laughed at Izuku's workout mix and tried to recommend him American Country music! The gall!
"Seriously!? I guess all those years in America screwed with his head, haha!" Kyouka laughed, watching as the greenettes face shifted to a perfect replica of All Might's muscle form.
"'Why don't you try this out!'" He mimicked, causing Kyouka to laugh even harder. "You should have seen my face! It was even worse than the Sports Festival, I was so disgusted!"
"PFFFT!" Kyouka tried to hold back her laugh as Izuku replicated his disgusted expression. "Izu, you can't do that to me! We're in public, I can't be laughing like this..!"
Izuku chuckled at her trying to hold back the laugh, only smiling wider as he saw her truly enjoying herself on this date of theirs. It warmed his heart to see her having fun, and with him no less!
"Hey… Can I tell you something?" Izuku suddenly questioned, Kyouka needing a second to calm down from her laughing fit, clearing her throat as she finally registered what he had asked her.
"Yeah, of course. What's up, Izuku?" She replied, turning to face him as the two now stood in front of the theatre. The greenette would rub his neck, his grip on her hand tightening before he turned his head away from her.
"W-Well… Honestly, after what happened with Uraraka, I-I felt like.. Like I-I wasn't good enough for anyone." He revealed, looking down at their intertwined hands with a pained smile. "I-I had started feeling like I just wasn't worth it anymore. That no one would be happy with me- W-Well, that was until today. So thank you, I-I'm happy that you're enjoying yourself so far."
Kyouka squeezed the greenettes hand as her face began to flush. "G-Geez, of course I'd be having fun with you, Izuku! You just… Y-You make me feel happy. I-I wasn't sure what to expect from this date at first, but now? Now I feel like this was the greatest choice I could have made." Kyouka then got on her toes and kissed the greenette on the cheek. "Plus, you've made every minute of this date worth it, and we're not even done yet! Now let's get into this movie, we're watching Kingsmen, right?"
The greenette would gaze into her eyes as his cheeks were dusted a light pink. He was feeling something indescribable when he peered into her eyes, his heart would pound against his chest and every nerve within him shouted at him to do something- Anything. Yet, he couldn't figure out what, or why he was feeling like this, it was definitely… Foreign. But he liked it, perhaps a little too much.
"Y-Yeah, let's enjoy ourselves."
"I still can't believe he wasn't into that other girl the entire time. He literally ditched her and slept with that Swedish princess? Just like that?" Kyouka complained, crossing her arms angrily as she looked back on the movie.
"Yeah, but aside from that the movie was pretty cool, you must admit. The whole secret society spy thing is pretty intriguing, right?" Izuku replied, holding the door open for Kyouka as the two had finally reached the dormitory after their date.
"I guess, but-" Kyouka stopped abruptly as her eyes narrowed, and her brows furrowed in annoyance. "Oh, it's you."
"Huh? Is someone-" Izuku started, before stepping in the dorm after her and landing his sights on just who was waiting for the two of them as they entered. "Oh. Uraraka-San, um… Wh-What're you waiting around for?"
"Can I talk to you, Deku-Kun?" She questioned, before her eyes quickly shifted to Kyouka and then back to Izuku. Izuku caught where she was looking and scowled. "...Alone?"
"Oh please, whatever you say to him you can say to-" Kyouka spoke, before being cut off by Izuku holding a hand out in front of her.
"Kyouka, I'll meet you up in your room later tonight." Izuku said, turning to look at her with a silent fury in his eyes. Kyouka's eyes would widen in shock before she inevitably decided to bite her tongue and nod along. Izuku would exhale in relief before quickly pecking her on the lips and sending her on her way. Uraraka watched with a bit of an awkward sway of impatience as Kyouka made her way out of the common area and into the elevator. Izuku knew she would listen in.
"So… You guys are close now-" Ochako started, turning to face the greenette who only looked at her with annoyance and animosity.
"Cut to the chase." He interjected, glaring at her as he crossed his arms. "You obviously wanted to talk, so talk. What do you want from me?"
Ochako bit her tongue, playing with her fingers nervously as she looked down. "L-Look, I just… I-I'm sorry for hurting you, and getting in your business this morning. I just… It felt like you had moved on too fast, and I truly thought that-"
"You thought what? What did you think, Uraraka-San?" Izuku cut her off once more, letting his grudge seep through as he had bottled everything up for so long. "Please, enlighten me."
Ochako gulped in nervousness, "I felt like maybe the whole confession was a lie… I-I felt like maybe it was all just a ploy, a-and maybe you didn't mean what you said back then…"
"You thought that I lied to you? Lied to you!? Uraraka, I LOVED you. I had fallen for your bubbly personality, and your smile, and cared about you probably more than I had realized, and you think I lied to you!?" Izuku questioned, his fists beginning to ball in frustration before he slapped a hand to his forehead and laughed. "Of course… You wanna know something? I thought that the rejection hurt oh so badly, but no. No, that wasn't the case; it was trying to pretend that everything was fine when it wasn't. It was an indescribable pain that no one could have understood… Except for Kyouka."
"...What? What do you mean?"
"I mean that I had found someone that helped me heal, and I actually smiled for the first time in that weekspan after you rejected me. I smiled. And do you know who I am, Uraraka-San?" Izuku questioned once more, leaning in slightly as his eyes narrowed.
"Y-You're-"
"And don't you even think about calling me, Deku. Who am I?" He pressed further.
"I-Izuku Midoriya..?"
"That's right. I'm known to be such a cinnamon roll, and you broke me. But what did I expect?" Izuku laughed painfully as he leaned away from her once more, his hair drooping over his eyes. "No one could have loved me. But I can't be mad at you, after all you can't help how you feel. No matter what, I'll still consider you one of my closest friends, just… Don't concern yourself with who I love and who I don't from here on out, okay?"
Uraraka looked down and nodded. "Right… I'm sorry, Midoriya."
Izuku used a finger to lift her head up to face him and a warm smile was present on his face. "That's Deku to you. Have a good night with Iida-Kun, Uraraka-San."
And with that Uraraka broke, beginning to sob as she leapt into the greenettes arms. "I'm sorry! Y-You're such a great friend, a-and I hurt you! I'm so sorry!"
Izuku patted her back and slowly pushed her off of him. "Don't apologize, it's fine. I forgive you, Uraraka, please just be happy."
Uraraka nodded, wiping her eyes as a small smile graced her lips. Izuku would pat the brunette on her head before heading for the elevator, his destination being a certain purple haired rockers room. "Oh, and tell Iida I said hi."
And with that Izuku had felt a large weight be lifted from his shoulders. He sighed in relief, before halting at the sound of Uraraka's voice once more.
"And you tell her you love her!"
Izuku froze. Had that been what it was? Had he fallen for the purplette? Had she truly captured his heart and held it in the palm of her hand? Izuku's eyes would widen as he whipped his head up and bolted up the stairs. He had a sudden realization.
He was in love with her.
Kyouka sat on her bed, her knees being held up to her chest as she silently awaited the arrival of her green haired date. She opted not to listen in on his conversation with the brunette, for she knew that it wasn't any of her business what they discussed.
Though she would be lying if she said she wasn't the least bit curious. Maybe it was more so she was afraid that Uraraka would try something to hurt the greenette, or worse, tried to get with him. Hell, maybe Izuku would have chosen Uraraka over her. She was definitely more feminine, and on top of that her personality really did seem to be like his type.
'No… No he wouldn't be like that, right?' Kyouka silently questioned, sighing as sitting here wondering about it wasn't going to get her anywhere. Perhaps she should just talk to someone about it.
Kyouka would pull out her phone, opening up her contacts and scrolling through them idly. 'Mina? No. Hagakure? Nope. Momo? ...Hell no.'
She would sigh and just opt to call her mother, if anything the woman would be able to provide some sort of wise advice as someone who has lived longer than her; experienced more than her, or anyone of her friends for that matter.
"Hello?" The voice of Mika Jirou spoke, "Kyouka, is that you? It's nice to hear from you!"
Kyouka smiled. Just hearing the voice of her mother was oddly calming, it had definitely been some time since she called about some advice. "Hey mom, I just called to talk to you about something. I'm uh… Well, I need advice."
Kyouka could hear shuffling on the other end, most likely her mother sitting up. "Sure, what do you need, sweetheart?"
"W-Well, I'm kind of having… Guy troubles." Kyouka revealed, hearing a small gasp from her mother on the other end, causing her face to flush. "I-It's just that right now he's talking to a former crush, a-and I'm worried she might hurt him again, or worse he'll take a chance to get back with her… Even after everything that happened between us."
"Well, this boy certainly sounds like he's captured your heart." Mika remarked, giggling as she heard Kyouka grunt in embarrassment. "Well, tell me about this boy, how did this all come about?"
"Well, a week ago the girl he had confessed to rejected him, and one night we sort of encountered one another on our balconies. We're classmates, so it's not like we were unfamiliar with one another, and we just sorta… Talked." Kyouka started, looking back on the night prior, silently squealing as she reminisced on just how handsome he looked in the moonlight that night. "One thing lead to another, a-and we kissed. I gave him my first kiss, and we decided to have a date today."
"Well, at least he didn't kiss you and leave…" Mika grumbled pinching the bridge of her nose as her daughter had basically described how rushed this whole ordeal was in the first place. "So how was the date? Any redeeming qualities or traits that I can know about?"
"Right! The date, oh my god, it was amazing! We spent the entire first half just talking about music, and he really tried to get into a few of my interests! And then when we went to the movies he was so nice and I just- Mom, he's literally the best!" Kyouka ranted, certainly surprising her mother. "He's the green haired boy in my class, the one with freckles? He's so nice, and I just… I'm really starting to like him."
"Mm, I see… Well, to me it sounds like you're really starting to fall for this boy. I won't lie, if memory serves me right, he is definitely quite the cute one despite looking kind of plain." Mika teased, continuing before Kyouka could detest any of what she was saying. "But if you really feel like you have a connection, and if he's not as shallow as you say, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about, you two clearly love each other. I'm sure he's making his way up to your dorm as we speak."
Kyouka raised a brow, "What makes you so sure?" She questioned, before hearing a knock at her door. She could tell her mother was smirking through the phone. "I'll call you later, mom. Don't tell dad."
Kyouka quickly hung up the phone and gave herself a quick look over in her mirror before huffing in determination and opening her door, revealing the greenette before her, smiling oh so warmly at her. It was definitely infectious.
"Hey." He uttered, awkwardly standing in front of her with his hands in his jacket pockets. Kyouka giggled.
"Hey." She replied, stepping aside to allow him entry into her room. She sheepishly tapped her jacks together after closing the door behind him. "Come on in, how'd things go with Uraraka..?"
Izuku removed his jacket and quickly tossed it aside. "Well, luckily there's no bad blood. But it helped me realize something, something that I think we need to talk about."
Kyouka's face paled. "O-Oh, um, alright then…" She mumbled, looking down as her feet shifted awkwardly. "What's up? I-Is something wrong, or..?"
The greenette shook his head. "No, quite the opposite actually, um… There's just something that I really need to tell you, a-and I know that this may come as a shock, or maybe I'm moving too fast, but…"
Izuku paused, taking her hands into a firm, but gentle hold. He would take a deep breath and lock eyes with her. Kyouka could feel his sincerity, though at the feeling of her hands in his own she felt her face begin to heat up.
"I think I love you, Kyouka." He continued, revealing his feelings as he looked away in embarrassment, before forcing himself back to look her in the eyes. "I-I know this may come as a shock, but even with the short amount of time we spent together, I truly feel a connection with you like no other."
Kyouka's face flushed, her heartbeat began to spike, and she could slowly feel herself shake nervously as her jacks began to wriggle around out of embarrassment. "Wh-What do you mean, y-you don't love me, you couldn't love me… I'm- Well, me."
Kyouka would try to turn away, but Izuku quickly cupped her cheek and turned her head to face him, slowly caressing her cheek with his thumb. "No, don't say that. That's exactly the reason why I love you, you're so you… And honestly I don't know how I never noticed how great you were before these past two days."
"B-But, how..? I-I'm not great, how could you love me..?" Kyouka countered once more, her fears and insecurities after her own dealings with rejection and self loathing beginning to shine through to the greenette. Izuku would frown as tears began to pool in the corners of her eyes, and he'd quickly wipe them away with his thumb.
"Because you're such an amazing person. You're beautiful, you're smart, you're fun, a-and you helped me act like myself again." Izuku replied, bringing the girl into a warm embrace as his voice softened into a faint whisper. "I may have been in love before, but never was it this strong. I don't care if you don't feel the same right now, and I know I'm making you fear that we may be moving too fast, but you truly forced your way into my heart in that short of a time span. And that's why I love you."
Kyouka quickly pulled away from the embrace and cupped the greenettes face with her hands, locking eyes with him once again. "That's not what I'm fearing… I'm afraid that I might love you too, Izuku. I'm afraid that I've fallen for you, and I'm afraid that you'll only be disappointed…"
Izuku swiftly captured the purplettes lips with his own, being ever so gentle as he embraced her once more. Kyouka would relax at the feeling of the greenettes lips on her own; it seems his feelings had gone through to her. He could never be disappointed by what dating her had in store, he would continue to love every fiber of her being regardless.
The two would slowly pull away from one another, each of them slowly taking in deep breaths before Izuku decided to speak. "I love you, Kyouka. Would you become my girlfriend tonight?"
Kyouka giggled, "Yeah. Let's count some stars."
And there's your part two.
