Summary: Severus Snape hates Valentines. He loves not getting anything on Valentines. But a group of 8th years will make sure this year's Valentine's day is an unforgettable one… for all the wrong reasons *evil giggle*

(A.N: I know this summary, or the summary of the fanfic, doesn't match the summary on top of the previous chapter. When I had to summarise the fanfic, I forgot how to go back into the story and ended up writing a new summary. I prefer the summary I made up for the fanfic, so I decided to change the summary at the top of the chapters. Just thought I'd let you know why there was a change)

Warning: AU, Dumbledore is alive and is still Headmaster, Snape is alive, no (planned) ships, may be temporary relationships based on dares. May be unintended spoilers, don't like don't read. Review, and maybe give me a few ideas for dares.

(A.N: I also apologise for not having the spells in Italics to help differentiate them from the main body of the story. I forgot to proofread for italics, and I didn't want to delete and resubmit the fanfic, so I left it. I will try not to repeat that mistake)

Chapter 2: Not His Usual Morning Regime

February 14th, 08:07

Snape's POV:

Severus had woken up at 7:30, as he did every morning.

This was one habit from his days of spying on Voldemort that he hadn't been able to get rid of. Another was his intense hatred of rats (to the extent that whenever he ran out of rat spleens, he would gleefully walk around Hogwarts and find his own… fresh supply). A final habit was his aversion to tattoos, along with anyone who wore them.

He removed the Status from the Restorative Draught. Severus was just about to ask one of the house-elfs to bring him his morning cup of coffee (without it, he tended to act - what was the word? Ah, yes - grumpy) when one of the charms on his door let out a ding.

A second later, there was a knock on his door. He was slightly curious why one of his Slytherins wanted to speak to him this early in the morning. He had placed a charm on the door that made different sounds based on the House or position of the person within Hogwarts, and the ding was the sound he had assigned to his House. Usually, they would come to him after dinner if they wanted to talk to him.

Severus walked over to his door, his wand held in his right hand.

Another habit from his spying days he thought to himself, as he abruptly threw open his door.

He was further surprised (although he kept his face impassive) to see Ms Parkinson standing at his door. This was the first time she had ever willingly (she hadn't been ecstatic to come to detention, after all) turned up outside his door. Severus was more than slightly alarmed to see that she was crying. She had red, puffy eyes with tears dripping down her nose.

"Ms Parki-" With a strangled sob, she launched herself towards him. He brought up his wand to defend himself, only to lower it quickly when she wrapped her arms around him and started crying on his shoulder.

Severus stood there, stunned. He could deal with everyone thinking he was a willing Death Eater. He could deal with Dumbledore's meddling and manipulation. Merlin, he could even deal with a round of Voldemort casting Crucio. The one thing he couldn't deal with, however, was teenage emotions.

Especially crying teenage girl's emotions.

He stood there awkwardly for a few minutes, hoping she'd let go. When she only started crying harder, he tried to disentangle her from him. When that didn't work, he started getting annoyed.

"Ms Parkinson, what is the meani-"

"HE BROKE UP WITH ME!" she wailed, still clinging to him. Severus paused for a second, noticing a flash of white out of the corner of his eye.

"Who?" he asked.

She stepped back from him. Severus simultaneously felt relief that she had let go of him and a slight pain at the back of his head. He reached back reflexively, noticing the less-than-happy expression on her face.

"WHO DO YOU THINK?!?" she yelled at him. Severus winced slightly, removing his hand from the back of his head, then he felt angry.

"MS. PARKINSON!! Firstly, kindly stop assailing my eardrums with your attempted impression of a shrieking bobcat. Secondly, I don't know who you're talking about, as students' personal lives are not of my concern or interest. If you wish for my aid or opinion, please inform me what the problem is. Otherwise, kindly vacate my room NOW!" he said, hugely regretting opening his door.

Pansy stared at him, still crying. He sighed, transfiguring a spare bit of parchment into a handkerchief. She took it from him, wiping her eyes before loudly blowing her nose. She Evanesco'd the handkerchief and took a deep breath.

"Draco", There was a slight catch in her voice "broke up with me". Severus blinked, the only outwards show of his surprise. He had often seen them sitting together at meals, feeding each other food. In fact, the last he had seen them sitting together was last night.

Curious.

"Why?" he asked. When Pansy looked questioningly at him, he elaborated.

"Why did he break up with you?"

"The usual reason," she replied. Severus just stared at her.

"He fancies someone else", Pansy said.

Severus closed his eyes for a few seconds, sighed, and opened them again, reaching for the white mug of coffee. She glared at him.

"Draco asked Potter out. And he said yes".

Severus managed to avoid spitting out his coffee by the slimmest of margins. When he looked at his mug, he saw that he'd managed to charm Draco and Po-Harry's face on it. He hadn't done accidental magic in over 25 years. Pansy looked at the mug and her face crumpled. Severus quickly Evanesco'd the mug and interrupted her before he had to deal with round two of her hysterics. In fact, he just wanted to get rid of her before he got a headache.

"Well, I'm surprised to hear that. Why don't you spend the day in the common room?"

She glared at him. Severus reflected that if he never saw her glare at him again, it'd be too soon.

"I would", she said scathingly, "but there is the small problem of sharing a Common Room with them. Or did you happen to forget that?" Severus glared back at her, feeling a headache coming on.

"OF COURSE I DIDN'T, YOU DUNDERHEAD!! What do you take me for, a moronic first year? I meant in the Slytherin Common room", he said scathingly.

She looked at him.

"You mean it?" asked Pansy hopefully.

"If I didn't mean it, I wouldn't have offered", sneered Snape. She ignored the sneer, instead lunging towards him.

Here we go again he thought, trying to back away.

Thankfully, this time she didn't burst into hysterics.

Instead, she did something that was almost as bad.

She hugged him.

"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!" she shrieked, almost bursting his eardrums due to the volume while jumping up and down. He forcefully disentangled himself from her.

"MS. PARKINSON! Enough with the screeching! My ears haven't yet recovered sufficiently to be able to endure another one of your shrieking fits. Please, I insist you immediately go and rest in the Slytherin Common Room," Severus said, looking forward to getting her out of his rooms. He was eyeing the decanter of Ogden's, thinking that he'd need it after the awakening he'd had.

Pansy turned and walked towards the door. As she reached the threshold she tripped, managing to stop herself from falling by grabbing onto the door, which rattled.

"Sorry, Professor,"she said, walking out and shutting the door behind her.

Severus castTempusand saw that it was 08:39.

"Plenty of time", he said to himself, grabbing the Ogden's and a tumbler.

"Plenty of time".

Pansy's POV:

Pansy waited until she had walked almost to the Great Hall before letting out a whoop. A few first years stared at her, but they quickly looked away when she glared at them.

She'd done it!!

She had successfully completed both her dares (one of which would help with a dare planned for later in the day, and the other was a fun use of her acting skills - in fact, her skills were so good that he'd lasted almost double the required time for the dare). She had also managed to disable his wards. Her "trip" was merely an excuse for her to hold onto the door for longer than necessary.

It was an open secret in Slytherin what spells Professor Snape used to protect his chambers. Many had tried to disable them - some from malice, while others were simply dared to attempt it.

All were caught, and all were put in detention for a month.

She 'd had one heart-stopping moment. When Professor Snape had rubbed the back of his head, she was sure he'd realised. Thankfully, she'd reacted quickly and distracted him by yelling at him.

She rushed to tell Lavender and Parvati, so they could decide what… gifts they could send him via Owl post since one of the charms prevented unwanted mail from getting to him.

As she walked past Draco and Harry, she stuck her tongue out at them, the signal that it was their turn. Draco winked at her, and Harry smiled. They turned around and ran towards the Owlery.

"YOU'VE LESS THAN AN HOUR", she yelled.

"WE KNOW", came the reply.

(A.N: Hi to anyone who reads the Author's Notes. Looks like it's going to be a Wednesday upload *shrugs, but there may be a change to that. If there is, I can only apologise and say that it was due to circumstances out of my control *sad face*. Now, hopefully things are getting interesting *smirks*. If you wish to try and guess what the dares that Pansy had to do, write in the review section. If you get one or both of them right, I'll mention your username in the next chapter. If you don't want to guess or don't have a clue, I'll reveal who got dared to do what in the A.N. of the final chapter. Next: Slightly tipsy after the measure of Ogden's, Severus makes his way to Breakfast, looking forward to only getting The Daily Prophet in the post. I mean, who'd want to send him mail… on Valentine's Day, of all days? *Happy giggle while dancing around the room* *You're right, Severus. No one would send you mail on Valentine's Day…*)
