Day 2: Touch Starved / Touch Repulsed
Shinji couldn't remember his father ever touching him.
Surely he had, at some point. He must have picked Shinji up when he was a baby. He had probably even hugged him, way back before Mother died. That's what Shinji chose to believe, anyway.
Shinji imagined himself one day doing something so great, his father would place a friendly hand on his shoulder. He immediately wrote it off as unrealistic. He had never even seen his father shake hands with someone. Gendo Ikari might as well have been surrounded by an impenetrable A.T. Field.
It was only later, when he reviewed that awful scene in the Terminal Dogma, that Shinji caught what Dr. Akagi had meant about her relationship with his father. His immediate instinct was that it was untrue. Maybe she was in love with him, but he couldn't imagine them kissing, or doing anything else.
It wasn't fair. He was willing to sleep with someone to get what he wants, but he couldn't he give his son a simple pat on the back?
