Drabble! Between chapter 5 and 6 of the main story, but it's not necessary to read the main story.

Just cute, mostly friendship/family with a hint of romance in the end. Enjoy the read :)

The best kind of love

Summary: Taichi asks Sora to help him with a confused Hikari. Little does he know that he's the one confused in the end.

They sat across from each other. Taichi on one side of the table, Hikari on the other, an awkward silence between the two of them. It was a rare silence, as both siblings got along very well. However, today was different and the uncomfortable silence remained between the big brother and the little sister.

Taichi worriedly looked at her. Besides the silence between the two, it was also rare to see Hikari struggling holding her own feelings and emotions. She was now softly shaking, sniffing every once and a while. He knew she was an emotional person, but quiet at that. She was a girl who could easily cry for someone else, when her sensitivity and compassion took the better of her. But openly crying about her own emotions and feelings was a rare sight to Taichi. He knew she was one to bottle things up, up to the point she couldn't hold in much longer. This situation had to be one of those breaking points, Taichi thought to himself. He had no idea how long this was going on already, though he could make a guess. Still he was at a complete loss for words, nervously tapping his fingers on the table.

"Could you stop that?" Was Hikari's shaking and whispering voice, speaking for the first time after she confessed to him. He immediately stopped the drumming, his eyes shifting from his focus on her to the ground.

"Sorry," he mumbled. He tried to find other words to say to her, but he felt like everything he could say was already said. Not wanting to upset her more, he held the stupid comments and jokes to himself. He sighed, earning him a somewhat disappointed look from his sister.

As a distraction from the situation, he reached for his phone, opening it to scroll through his new messages. He hoped reading someone else's words, he would magically know the perfect things to tell his sister. It was hopeless and as he was about to throw away his phone in frustration it beeped, signaling a new incoming message.

Hey!
Mother told me she saw you in Odaiba this morning. Still there? Want to meet up?
I'm in Odaiba too. I just arrived.

His expression changed from utter frustration to confusion with a tad of disbelieve going into some kind of sheer astonishment before it broke into a cautious and cocky smile. Well, that was what the messenger could do to him and he was very much aware of that. He shook his head.

The messenger was Sora. The only one who could probably understand and talk to Hikari. It had been perfect timing, as if she knew she was needed.

Half an hour later she was seated next to Hikari on the couch while Taichi took his distant, staying in his seat at the table. He took out his phone, texting with Koushiro about some Digital World community matters while watching the girls with the corner of his eyes, picking up some words and sentences.

"… we are supposed to be best friends."

"… falling in love?"

"Don't know what to do…"

"It's okay. You'll be fine."

"But Takeru…"

"… Yamato…"

"Sora, I'm confused."

"That's okay, it's normal. You will figure it out, but give yourself some time."

With those last words it became quiet and Taichi looked up, only to see Sora folding his little sister in a warm and loving embrace.

"Thank you."

"Anytime."

He smiled to himself seeing the two of them holding each other in an almost sisterly way. It somehow warmed his heart.

"But just so you know, Hikari," he heard Sora sweetly say, still holding Hikari close to her, "falling in love with your best friend,"

A pause.

Sora's gaze shifted to Taichi, her eyes meeting his. He felt like he had to look away, but he was captured by her copper colored orbs. A soft pink crept up his face, mimicking the light blush appearing on her own cheeks. His heartbeat slightly increased and a warmth flooded his chest.

"I think that's the best kind of love."

The words were soon replaced with that soft and sweet smile of hers before she broke her eye contact with him, loosening her embrace with Hikari to look at her. Taichi kept his eyes on the girls, confused about what just had happened and what he felt. The exchanged look between himself and Sora and her words lingered in his thoughts. Over and over again.
