A/N: Here's a sneak peak of a new series I'm working on. It's based on the Pokémon series. Instead of the episodic format of Drizzy and Drip, it will be an ongoing story with long arcs similar to that of light novels. Therefore, it will require lots of planning on my part, and this chapter is only a rough brainstorm of what's to come eventually. It'll take time for me to plan out character introductions, plot arcs, etc, but it will be worth it. Enjoy this potential teaser!
?: "Was that your last one, trainer Sasha?"
Girl: "N-not quite..and for the last time, it's SARAH!"
?: "Yeah whatever (yawn), just bring it on already. I've got some anime to binge."
Sarah: "Come on champion Vex, you promised that you'd take this seriously!"
Vex: "What do you mean? Anime is pretty serious you know."
Sarah: "Our battle will decide whether you remain champion of the region or if I become the new champ. The stakes are really high and yet you are thinking about anime?!"
Vex: "Well, I'm taking just about as serious as you are; you have yet to show me you're serious yourself. Geeze, I swear they let kids have badges for free these days…"
Sarah: "!"
[Inside a large bland room are two competitors: a 14-year old girl, and a young man in his twenties dressed in a purple hooded cloak. While the girl is stressing out as she brings out her last Pokémon, the man looks unscathed and disinterested.]
Sarah: (Internal monologue) "He doesn't think I'm serious?! He destroyed most of my team...I only have one Pokémon left. Sigh, there's just no way him-literally. Everyone told me to expect a "unique" battle style, but I didn't expect...THIS! Ok here goes-Delphox, I choose you!"
[She tosses out her pokeball, Delphox comes out onto the field.]
Delphox: "Delphox!"
Sarah: "Delphox use-"
Vex: "Wait wait wait, did you forget? I out-speed all of your team, so it's my turn. I use 'Introduction'! Ahem, I go by the name Vex, and I'll be your opponent for this round. I guess you could consider me a fighting type, but I'm not quite sure if typings like that are applicable to humans. Perhaps, a human type or something?"
Sarah & Delphox: "..."
Vex: "Ah no matter, I don't care much for type matchups anyway; anything is possible to beat if you train hard enough! Anyway, what's your name?"
Sarah: "Her name is-"
Vex: "Don't be rude, I'm talking to the Delphox! Go on please."
Delphox: "Delphox?..."
Vex: "I see. So you're telling me that you have a special bond with Selena [Sarah: "It's SARAH!"] but she did not even give you a special name? How disappointing..."
Delphox: (Feeling slightly confused and depressed) "Del..phox…"
Sarah: "Hey, I couldn't think of anything okay?! Urgh, it's our turn Delphox, use Flame Charge!"
Delphox; [Charges at Vex while covered in flames. She picks up lots of speed just as she is about to come in contact with Vex.]
Vex: [Quickly side-steps, causing Delphox to crash into a wall.]
Sarah: "Delphox?! How did that miss, it has 100% accuracy!"
Vex: "Come on, did you really expect me to stand there and let her hit me with a flaming tackle? If you want to hit me, then hit me! Sigh, you may try again."
Sarah: "Come on Delphox, you've got this! Use Psychic!"
[Delphox unleashes a wave of energy, it hits Vex.]
Sarah: "Alright, you got him!"
Vex: "Oof, now that's more like it. It's much harder to avoid psychic energy waves, so it makes sense to stick to that. Know your strengths, learn how to exploit your opponent's weaknesses; that's the key to victory. However…"
[Vex's fist charges up with fire energy. In a blink-of-an-eye, he reaches Delphox.]
Vex: "...Fire Punch!"
Delphox: "?!"
Sarah: "?! Delphox look out!"
[Too late. Vex's fire punch lands a hard blow on Delphox, causing her to tumble.]
Sarah: "Delphox? Delphox?! Are you ok?!"
Delphox: "...Del...ph..phox…" (Thud!)
Sarah: "But how is this possible? Delphox resists fire attacks..wait, how did you even-"
Vex: "It's simple, I borrowed some flames from her Flame Charge attack; it's important to be resourceful."
Sarah: "But-"
Vex: "Her-or I suppose your mistake, was that you did not respect my strengths and you've failed to cover your weaknesses. Sure Delphox may resist fire attacks, but I combined her strength with my strength to turn it into her weakness. Understand?"
Sarah: "Whaaa?"
Vex: "Alright, are we done now? Or are you next? I'll let you make the first move."
Sarah: "Urgh, you're insane, this challenge isn't fair!"
Vex: "Take the advice I gave you and leave; no one gets between me and Re Zero. Go whiteout or something."
Sarah: [Frustration intensifies]
[As she leaves, two members of the elite 9 enter.]
Amilly: "Sigh, there goes another one. I told that girl this would happen, but she didn't take heed."
Pummel: "Yep, I knew she wouldn't last 12 minutes. Poor girl…"
Vex: "Yo, Pummel and Amilly, what brings you here? All of you should do a better job of making sure only the toughest trainers get to me; don't go easy on 'em just because they're kids!"
Amilly: "It's not that we're going easy, it's that you are way too powerful!"
Pummel: "Yeah bro, you're scaring away all of our challengers; we hardly get any anymore. Ever since you became champion, no one has conquered the league!"
Vex: "Well isn't that the point? The champion should give the challenger the hardest fight. To be honest, the system doesn't make sense. You're telling me that if some brat wins, that's the new champion? Then what about you guys with many more years of experience? Do you think it's fair to overlook your feats for some novice?"
Pummel: "Uhh…"
Amilly: "Well, not really…"
Vex: "Exactly, so if we must keep a system with such bogus rules, then I must make sure that whoever proceeds me is truly worthy of the title. But no one has come close! It's such a shame, I mean, I give them a challenge yet they won't do the same for me? I can't even get serious with them, which makes it boring for me. Now that's unfair."
Amilly: "Why don't you open a dojo or something? Perhaps you can train trainers that can keep up with you."
Vex: "Eh, I considered it but training your potential opponent is lame. It's better when both parties clash against each other with their own strength, you know. Besides, I bet the entire region will try to attend my class; I don't have time for that!"
Pummel: "How about training up an actual Pokémon team? You know, someone besides yourself? It is a Pokémon battle after all..."
Vex: "Come on Pummel, how many times do I have to tell you guys? Pokémon and humans are closely connected. You're telling me that Pokémon can fight each other and attack humans while we just watch? Ridiculous! Besides, I have yet to see a 'mon worthy of my investment."
[Amilly and Pummel glance at each other awkwardly.]
Amilly: (Whisper) "You tell him."
Pummel: (Whisper) "Nuh-uh, you lost our last battle remember? It's your call."
Vex: "What are you guys whispering about? It better not be about the latest Re Zero episode, I'm only on ep. 7!"
Amilly: (Takes a deep breath) "N-no that's not it Vex. It's about your status as champion. The elite 9 have been discussing this for the past few months, and we've found out that according to the rules of the league, you can't remain champion of the Sol region."
Vex: "Huh?! According to what rule?!"
Pummel: "All league members, including the champion, are required to have a party of Pokémon present. 6 to be exact. Violation of any rule is punishable by the revoking of status."
Vex: "I don't remember that being in the books…"
Amilly: "Wellll, that's because we just added them...specifically with you in mind. For the health of the league and the sake of the Sol region's sanity we had to do something."
Pummel: "Yeah man, it's nothing personal. We just want things to work out for everyone…"
Vex: "But that's not fair to kick me out so suddenly without giving a heads-up. How am I supposed to meet the requirements in such a short notice?!"
Amilly: "We've already considered that. That's why on behalf of the league, we're giving you a year from today to meet the requirement."
Pummel: "Most of the others wanted to immediately expel you, but we vouched for you bro."
Vex: "Sooo, in short I am suspended from the league until I come back with a party of 6 Pokémon…"
Amilly: "...and you'll be permanently expelled if you don't within a year."
