[Smallville High ~ Home Room]

I sat in the homeroom as a reincarnated. I had found that having a second chance to grow, making new choices over the last thirteen years (even if it was a different life) was uniquely refreshing. That being said, I never expected to live the life of a comic book character. Somehow, I end up with gifts. And maybe because my brain was different from the actual people living this reality, getting these powers, (gift or curses) didn't throw me into the domain of Chole's wall of weird. (Who is Chole? That's a story for another time.)

But that's all beyond the point. I slowly hovered my pen beneath my resting right hand, floating it just below my desk. It was such a different way than the first skills I'd got when I first arrived. The details of the new skills I had gained filled my mind, however, those thoughts ended as the teacher came in.

The older man slammed the teacher's guide down on the podium. This caused my concentration to flux and eventually interrupted my influence over the skill. The pen fell a few inches making a noticeable clatter on the desk. I glanced around to see if anyone noticed. Thankfully not.

The next eight hours of my life returned to normal. With classes starting I no longer tested out my newly acquired powers (or previous ones.) I moved along, gaining other abilities as I passed others, seeing pop-ups notify me of each. The only time I had peace was around lunch. Instead of eating inside, I walked out of the main building and found a place to lay in the forested area next to the school.

[Forested area next to school]

I looked both ways before using a dimensional step and vanished from where I was standing. Reappearing three-thousand feet from where I started: I was standing on a large flat boulder that had the sun beating down on me. I sat down Indian style and slowly began breathing as I sorted through my additions. After a long day, this had been the only time to adjust to each of them. With each breath in and then out, things fell into their proper place.

I circulated the energies through my body. I had to admit, I was slightly angry upon having become like an energy sponge, but at least I had understanding over each. And a menu even appeared on my status screen.

I could see on the menu each meta-human ability. Each skill appeared to have an option to toggle them on and off to prevent accidents (as some of these had hair triggers.) I knew it was better I kept them off unless they were needed. But another thought came to me; I knew magic when I first arrived in this world, but a certain type of magic called compound magic escaped my comprehension.

With this in mind, my thoughts came to the meta-powers I had and gained over time. I wondered if I could use the concept of compounding magic towards meta-human abilities, possibly even combine both types if I could practice it over time. With that thought, I continue with the sorting before opening my eyes. A smile crept across my face.

I extended my right hand. As I did this, a ripple in space appeared. Already knowing what this was, I reached in. Without much effort, I quickly found the things I wanted; my lunch. I pulled a brown paper sack and a bottle of generic orange soda.

The bottle of soda was still cold, and as it was exposed to the outside air. The condensation began to appear as I open the bottle; the artificial smell filled my nose. Egger to take a swallow, I put the bottle to my lips and poured it into my mouth. 'That is so good.'

I then pulled a red ripe delicious from the bag and took a bite, as I laid my back onto the stone. I even let my legs hang loosely as I chewed the bite of the apple in my mouth, all while peering into the bright blue sky. I felt the heat of the sun soak into me from the stone, and I felt my body relax and even become calm. "Wow," I thought, "This is how life should be."

I knew I had only half my lunch remaining, but I could return to it fairly easily with a dimensional step. I could also use a gate and be back in a flash, but this was something I'd only do if it was an emergency. Even knowing what I did, I could not risk my secret being found out: that I was a meta-human.

When the time came, and the lunch and drink were finished, I tossed the trash back into the ripple (which was the item box.) I then got up and took a quick glance before using dimensional step to get back to the entrance of the forest and the jogging track. Once there, I looked around again, and after being sure, no one was around, I again used the dimensional step to cover the gap, pulling myself closer to the main school before walking towards the nearest entrance, and to make my way to the next class (like any other student.)

[End of the school day]

After class ended for the day, I stretched and let out a yawn. I packed up my things in my backpack as I couldn't let anyone know about the item boxes. After I was packed up, I swung the bag over my shoulder and begun making my way out of the school. It didn't take me long before I found my bus and got aboard.

I wasn't a person who enjoyed school spirit, so the idea of joining clubs in this life (or the last) just made me itchy, so I avoided it all. Even sports teams were a no-go. So, I went as far as underperforming in the gym to avoid being drafted.

I reached into the bag or, more appropriately, the 'travel' item box and got the iPod. I put my earbuds in as I began to listen to my music quietly as I waited for the bus to pull out. Even as I concentrated on the music, trying to relax, I could feel someone sit next to me after the seat sank slightly, and after a few moments, I smelt a light scent of lavender and lilac. It was a familiar scent; it was Susan Water.

I could feel the eyes on me, but I only smiled to acknowledge the person staring at me. They could tell I knew they were there so she removed one of the earbuds and said in my ear. "Are you ignoring me? That's rather impolite."

I smiled larger and then nodded. This got me a painful response as I felt a twisting at my waist. "Good, good but don't blame me for being ruthless when I tell aunty you're bullying me again!"
