There was a distinct blackness to the world the man currently inhabited, a very harsh, imposing darkness that encompassed the entirety of this realm. Without a single star, light, or hint of brightness, aside from a single pinprick of light which shined down on him in the vast area he was in.
Each breath he drew bore a brutally long, grueling inhale, while his exhale was extremely sharp, even going as far as heaving when he had no breath left. It felt as if there was a massive stone pressing atop his chest, crushing him between the rock and the ground, until his lungs were a paste which coated the underside of the stone.
In his mind he simply repeated his own steps; inhale. Exhale.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Inhale…
Exhale…
Inhale…
...
Time started to grow longer, as if he began breathing slower, but as quick as he slowed he sped up. The sounds of a ferocious beast, or so he assumed, started surrounding him. Nothing seemed right – nothing was right. He couldn't find himself. No longer was there that pinprick of light, instead he was stuck in a blinding darkness with an inability to see his body… There was nothing – not a single thing – except the sounds of the chaos surrounding them.
He opened his mouth, the feeling of his throat vibrating harshly, hoarsely running his voice ragged, though, he couldn't even hear himself. His senses were going numb. His mind was going numb…
His head began to grow painful, though, lighter… Enough for him to stumble around and fall, all the while he began to not feel anything either. Nothing except for the pressure on his limbs as he hit the ground.
All he could hear was the painful screeching sound, and it surrounded him. Relentlessly attacking him from every direction with its extreme crescendo. A viscous liquid started to leak down from the sides of his head, even down his cheeks, over his lip; pouring with an unmatched flow, as if someone had turned a valve in his head.
Autonomously, he pulled his head up and slammed it down, and again, then again, again! He continued, restlessly throwing his own face into the ground in a vain attempt at silencing the sound, at making himself unconscious.
Tick
Tock
Tick
Tock
The ticking of a clock, it was all he could focus on. Every second, his body would seemingly throb, painfully tensing up his body for what felt like hours until it would settle, then it would repeat. Each time he'd jolt...
And jolt…
And jolt…
He could feel something pop, his toes, a fiery pain filling his feet as they went numb, to the point he couldn't even move them or feel pressure. Then his feet… Then his lower legs… It progressed, the same with his arms; after his toes did it his fingers did too, then his lower arms, all until it met in his chest which made him once again scream in agony, though, he still couldn't hear it himself.
Everything was in pain, and he felt his own body give out, numb to the world, until all he could focus on was the ringing, until that faded as well…
"Sir, subject 3 has flat-lined," A computer analyst said, gazing at a screen as a researcher looked out through the window.
They had just witnessed the effect activated Remnant had on a person, from the shouting, to the veins popping, to the nerves dying… It was gruesome.
Through the window the body of a man was laying on the ground, but it was slowly leaking out a blackish liquid from the eyes, mouth, ears, nose… It had contaminated his blood, quickly causing the man to die, but now his body was quickly decomposing…
The Remnant was killing off his cells like wildfire, swiftly destroying the remnants of his body left, and at the rate it was going they'd have to grab a shovel to clean it up...
