Ch 2: Calling it Even

"Here I thought I knew this city pretty well…"

With a dissatisfied grunt, Asami takes a peek at her watch, noting she's running a bit late while not believing she's somewhat lost. She sighs before pulling out her phone and looking at the text Korra had sent her the previous night.

Korra (20:34): hey Miss Sato! i found the perfect spot, u just gotta trust me. i'll send u the address in a sec but it's actually down this hidden alleyway to the right!

Korra (20:34): the address is…

Staring at the address and directions again, she hums deeply before looking up from her phone. She takes a glance around her surroundings in disbelief before letting out another sigh. Honestly surprised by how well hidden this place was, Asami looks at her watch again before giving in.

"Guess I'll call her."

"Shit should I call her…" Korra ponders while tapping her foot. "She said let's meet up at seven and it's a bit past seven… I didn't peg her to be the late type… did she get lost? Should I text her? I forgot to tell her the alleyway entrance was pretty small…"

With a deep hum, she tilts her head to one side.

"But who am I to dare assume that Asami Sato is lost! Hah! She built most of the city after that bad earthquake… but then again…"

Her phone buzzing makes her jump in place. She scrambles to pull out her phone and she was definitely not anticipating seeing Asami to call her. She picked it up and the first thing she heard was that beautiful sounding voice say 'hello' before she responded back (a little too excitedly).

"H-Hey! Good morning!"

She immediately slaps her face in disbelief that her voice cracked. Smooth, real smooth Korra. Asami's soft chuckle isn't missed before she tries again. She clears her throat, "Sorry, um let me start again. Good morning, you almost here? I'm outside the shop whenever you're ready."

"About that…" her voice sounded a little shy, "It seems that I'm somewhat lost if you'd believe that. I thought I knew the city pretty well but I have to hand it over to you, first time someone's ever one upped me like this."

Korra blushes for some reason. There was something about Asami's tone that made her heart skip a beat. Quickly snapping out of it, Korra lets out a soft chuckle before suavely saying:

"If you're amazed by this, just you wait. The things I can do to you…"

Asami almost dropped her phone. That phrase shouldn't have sounded dirty but it sounded dirty. She was glad that no one she knew could see her because she was absolutely certain that she probably had one of the dumbest faces out there. Half amused and half confused by Korra's choice of words. There were many articulate words she could say to respond with but the only thing she could muster to say was:

"What?" She slapped her own face. Of all the things you could say, you say 'what' smooth… real smooth Sato.

"Oh my spirits!" Korra gasped, "Wait that came out wrong, that's not what I meant! I meant that new coffee place! The things that coffee can do to you! It's seriously so good!"

Thank the spirits Asami recovers quickly. She couldn't help but laugh before smoothly saying, "I'm dying to try it then. So… where exactly is this so-called 'Jasmine Dragon'? Not only can't I find it, I've never heard of this place before."

"Mmm… if you couldn't find it with my directions, how about I just meet you outside? Where are you right now?" Korra says with some shuffling in the background.

"That's a good question, let's see…"

Taking another glance at her surroundings for the nth time, Asami reads two miscellaneous signs. "I'm in between that one botanic shop, Lee's Flowers, and Curly's Chunky Chicken."

Korra let out an amused chortle, "Alright I'll be right there in less than one."

Asami ends up taking a few steps forward out of habit in an attempt to meet up with Korra half way. Being idle was never her forte since she was always busy doing some sort of work. "Which store is closer to where you're at? I'll meet you halfway."

"Don't worry about it, I'm right at the entrance, what are you wearing? I'll wave you down."

Letting out a breath of defeat, Asami replies, "Red blouse and black skirt."

"Gotcha, let's see…" true to her words, Korra waves her down in no time. "Damn… she looks good."

That came out as a mumble which Asami almost missed but she didn't. She blinks while looking towards Korra with a smug smile before saying, "Thanks."

Korra twitches in place realizing what she said and that Asami heard her. Her face burns bright red and she coughs to clear her throat before hanging up. Once she was in close proximity, she rubs her neck before saying, "Hey, morning Miss Sato."

Asami smiles before offering her hand, "Please, call me Asami Miss Seaton."

Accepting her hand, Korra gave her an equally warm smile back. "Then likewise, feel free to call me Korra too then… Miss Sa…Asami."

They smile at one another before the charismatic CEO couldn't help it. "You look great too by the way."

Korra freezes up and before her face burns again. This time, her ears went a little red before she scampered out, "T-Thanks." She clears her throat loudly before saying, "A-Anyway, come on it's this way." She nods her head towards the direction she came from.

Asami gives her a courteous smile before saying, "Lead the way."

Korra you idiot, I can't believe you said that out loud! She totally heard me to, fuck, talk about embarrassing. Rubbing the back of her neck, she decided to die on the inside a little. However, unfortunately thanks to her long inner monologue, she missed the majority of whatever Asami had said so she had to prompt her a question.

"Sorry, what was that?" She looks to her left as Asami follows along next to her side.

The CEO smiles softly before repeating herself, "I was wondering how you came to such a place. Not to brag or anything but I did rebuild most of the city so I'm surprised I actually got a little lost."

With a lopsided smile, Korra agrees. "Yeah me too honestly. If I'm being honest, I only found this place by chance." She peaks over to look at Asami's curious expression, "You see… I actually needed to go to the bathroom and followed my nose towards this awesome smell…" she starts.

Asami raises an eyebrow before laughing softly, "Is that so?"

Happy that Asami didn't shrink away at her silly comment, Korra gives her a goofy grin this time. "Yeah, I had been drinking coffee for hours trying to find the best replacement. You'd be surprised by how weak they all are but still grow strong with the bathroom runs."

Letting out another soft chuckle, Asami felt somewhat touched. "You actually tested all the cafes in this area for me?"

Korra fakes a scoff as if it was offensive. "Of course! Who do you think I am? I really did mean it when I said I was sorry… thinking back to it now, I don't know what was going through my head and the fact that I kissed you out of nowhere makes me seriously feel sick to my stomach."

Asami understood the severity of this crime but who was she trying to fool? She was actually starting to feel sort of bad for Korra, no one's ever apologized this much to her in her life before. "Well, let's hope for your sake this coffee will blow my mind. I can be quite a generous person if I wanted to be."

Crossing her fingers in the sky, Korra agreed. "I hope so too." She finally looks over to the Jasmine Dragon's door, "Shall we?"

"Let's."

Asami glances down at her personal phone thanks to the sound of a specific ding. When she sees who it was, she immediately smiles.

Korra (07:12): I'm omw with ur coffee Miss Asami :3 be there in 10

It's been a few weeks since their coffee "date" and Asami can pleasantly say that it was worth that ounce of humiliation she faced that particular day. Many coffees later, after getting to know one another, they had somehow come to an agreement that they'd buy each other coffee every other day. Although, to her demise today, she was too busy to make it but luckily for her, Korra had offered to bring it to her office. Even though Asami had insisted it was fine, Korra was quite adamant on delivering it to her for some reason.

It had something to do about her being free all the time thanks to her dojo mentor?

Asami hasn't exactly had time to learn more about that sudden info bomb so that was gonna be her new priority in her list of getting to learn about Korra more. Tapping her desk, she crosses her legs. She sighs softly before shuffling through her abundance of paperwork. After a second, she looks at that text again, checking the time before smiling softly at her choice in words.

'Miss Asami'

Korra was quite persistent with formalities for some reason but she had somehow successfully managed to get the woman to call her Asami. She never really liked being called by her last name so that was a huge win in her book after days of being called 'Miss Sato.'

Maybe Korra felt somewhat intimidated by her status? Or maybe it was a part of her personality? These "coffee dates" of theirs weren't enough time to chat long enough to explore their relationship so maybe it was time for Asami to cross that line and ask Korra out on an actual date?

She continued drumming her fingers on the desk.

Maybe it was time for her to start dating again? It has been a good few months since her last break up. With Korra's recent company, Asami has come to remember how fun it was to be with someone who you didn't work with. Her few friends were only from work, who she did love to death, but you know how it goes: work will always be mentioned somehow and being the boss of their company does create that weird line even if she didn't want it to. Not to mention the biggest factor was that they had their own lives too so it wasn't as if they could hang out all the time.

That… and well, honestly speaking, being around Korra was fun and refreshing. Her silly texts were always either amusing or cute. Her sudden flustered tangents were all the more so endearing rather than troublesome. Not to mention how much sugar Korra needs to dump into her coffee. Not that, was funny. It's more of a coffee flavored milk than a coffee with milk.

She was cute.

She was great company.

Not to mention Asami had this feeling that Korra would be amazing in bed too according to that nice body. Honestly… getting laid would be a bonus but what this lonely CEO enjoyed the most was her company. It gave her that missing spark she needed. It made her not feel alone in this busy and cold world. The only question was, was Korra up for dating so soon after a break up? Or if she was even into women in the first place but before Asami could continue her thoughts, a knock on the door catches her attention.

She blinks before answering, "Come in."

Her worries and unnecessary thoughts melted the moment she saw Korra's bright lopsided grin.

"Morning Miss Asami, I hope you're hungry?"

Feeling slightly confused, Asami cocked her eyebrow. "Well… I'm not really hungry but I haven't eaten yet. Been busy and all you know."

Oh, and yes, Korra had free and easy access to her office.

"Tadaaa!" Korra whips out a bag from behind her back, "I brought you a breakfast bagel! I was in the mood for one this morning and then thought about you. I figured you hadn't eaten yet so I bought us some."

She was speechless. "Wow, Korra I…" she smiles softly, "that's really sweet of you, thank you."

"No prob!" Korra gives her that same charming lopsided smile of hers. "But sorry to break the news, I actually have to get going." She points her thumb towards the door, "I'll see you next week since it's Friday?"

Asami opened her mouth and normally she would agree but this time, something else slipped out instead. "Actually… I was wondering if you were free for maybe dinner tonight?"

Korra blinks out of surprise before possibly blushing slightly. "Oh, uh…"

The CEO felt a little silly for some reason. "Of course, you're free to decline if you're busy or not interested. I won't hold it against you."

"Oh! No no no!" Her bright cyan eyes widened, "Sorry that's not what I meant, dinner sounds great. I would love to eat out with you. Where and when?"

Asami almost sighed in relief, "I'll text you the details later?"

Korra gives her one last bright grin, "Sure! Sounds great… I'll see you tonight then?"

"Yeah, see you tonight."

Korra's mouth dropped the moment she saw Asami. She looked breathtaking in that red dress of hers. The way that the slit in her dress made her slender legs pop… and the way that damned red lipstick and purple eye shadow made her eyes glow… fuck. Korra knew she was screwed. However before their encounter got awkwardly longer, she managed to speak up.

"W-Wow… you look good." Korra says bashfully before rubbing her neck in embarrassment. Fuck I'm not blushing am I?

Asami chuckles. "Thanks, you don't look half bad yourself."

"Ahem… a-anyways… I hope I'm not under-dressed?" Looking down at her dress, Korra felt under-dressed compared to Asami's elegant accessories and back exposing dress. With the text Asami had sent earlier of 'wear your fanciest' Korra panicked a little since she didn't own that many bougie clothes. She hasn't exactly worn this (only) dress of hers since she attended a friend's wedding like two years ago.

Eating up Korra's appearance with her eyes, Asami gave her a smile. "Not at all. If anything, I'd have to say I'm pleasantly surprised," she walks over and links her arm with Korra's, "I didn't peg you to be the dress type."

Korra's face ignited. "Oh! I-uh-well I'm not against it I just uh— I uh… t-they're okay—" she takes a deep breath, trying to start her sentence over but instead, becomes intoxicated with her wonderful perfume.

Asami giggles before pulling Korra over towards her usual seating booth. "Don't worry. You look great. Besides, no one can say anything to us even if you were just in a bat up tee and shorts." She simply shrugs, "Kwongs has always had a pretty private seating area for the Satos anyways."

"I-Is that so?" She says slightly surprised.

The CEO hums in agreement. "Just relax, the food here is pretty good. It'll be my treat so get whatever you want."

"That's a little…" Korra mumbles while rubbing her cheek, "Isn't this place pricey? I'd feel bad if you had to pay for it all. I may not be exactly that rich but at let me split the bill with you."

Smiling sweetly back, Asami nods at the waiter, signaling for him for her usual before quickly taking a seat. Korra does the same and once she's seated, she starts speaking again.

"It's really nothing Korra, think about it as an apology for inviting you on such a short notice. Besides, you're doing me a favor and keeping me company. I've grown tired of eating alone these days…" her leg brushes past Korra's on 'accident' and she enjoyed her immediate bashful response. Besides… they put it on my tab anyways.

"S-Still…" Korra stutters before clearing her throat, "I'd feel bad if I don't pay for something."

Seeing the stubbornness in her eyes, Asami yields slightly before suggesting, "Then how about you leave the tip? Otherwise you can pay the next time."

Korra's eyebrows jump, "N-Next time?"

"Unless… you don't want to of course."

"No no no! Of course I'd love to!"

"I guess we have ourselves a deal then."

One moment they were having an amazing time, the next, Asami was about to kill someone. Of course the only time she eats out and has company, she has to run into him. And, in front of her possible love interest too? What a damn small world this was.

"Asami, what are the chances of meeting you here!"

Facing Asami, Korra gives her a look but right when Asami was about to explain, he invited himself to their table, as in, slide in right next to Korra and a little too close for Asami's liking.

"Hasook… fancy seeing you." She mumbles bitterly with an annoyed eyebrow perched up.

Ignoring the close proximity between them, Korra's eyes shift between Asami and this guy who was named Hasook. She took a sip of her cucumber aloe juice as she watched the exchange.

"Every time I invited you out to dinner, you always said you were busy! Guess today's my lucky day seeing someone as beautiful as yourself here," he finally acknowledges her friend's presence, "with another beauty nonetheless."

At that note, Korra scrunches her face and looks at Asami again. Asami frowns before mouthing 'sorry, my ex' which Korra immediately understood.

"It's been a while since I've had a day off. I was actually was having a nice dinner with Korra until you—"

"How about after dinner, we can all catch up and you can introduce me to your new friend? I'm sure we all can have some fun one way or another…"

Korra was about to smack this guy for that innuendo but then she stopped herself. But then again, honestly speaking Asami looked like she was about to beat her to it.

"I'm afraid we have some plans after dinner which I doubt single minded men can understand."

Korra wished she had some popcorn right about now.

"Aw, don't be that way Sams! It's been a long time since we've hooked up. I know you're single so unless you're taken, why don't we go at it for old time sake?"

Asami let out a big sigh, "Sorry I guess I wasn't being clear." Standing up, she scooches closer to Korra and before she knew it, she pulled Korra's cheek towards her face.

Korra turns just in the nic of time to see Asami's face really close and personal. Before she knew it, their lips were touching.

"?!"

Asami planted a soft one onto Korra's lips. It was awkward at first but then when they parted slightly, Korra was the one who leaned back in. When Asami noticed that, she proceeded to give Korra a pleasurous kiss. After what felt like an eternity, Asami finally pulls away but not after softly nipping Korra's upper lip with hers. She makes eyes contact with Hasook before saying:

"If you'll excuse us now."

With that last note, Asami takes Korra's hand and pulls them out of the booth. She makes eye contact with the waiter and nods to him, signaling to charge her tab to the usual, before heading out. Once they are outside, a chill makes Asami shiver before she stops in front of her car. She took a deep breath before facing Korra.

"Korra, I'm sorry about that. I just thought that that'd be the best way to shut him up. What you did to Mako just came to thought so I kinda did the same since I condone to think of another alternative but that doesn't exactly excuse what I did and I—"

Korra raised her hand while simultaneously closing her eyes. Her body was screaming 'say no more' and she had a poker face before it cracked all of the sudden. She began cracking up hard enough that even tears began spilling from her eyes.

"I— pfft! S-Sorry I just—" this was the loudest Asami has ever heard her laugh. "Oh my spirits! That was fucking hilarious! You should've seen his face!"

Asami let out a nervous chuckle, "S-So… you're not mad that I kissed you…?"

Finally calming down a bit, Korra wiped her tears. "Of course not! Did you forget that I was the one who started our whole fiasco!"

"I guess…" Asami still felt guilty, "but just so you know I don't want you to get the wrong idea," she smiles softly at the irony, remembering Korra's words. "I'm not the type to kiss someone out of the blue either. It just seemed… the best way to shut him up and leave."

Korra gave her an amused smirk before saying, "Well I do have to say, his face was something. You should've seen him when we were walking out the door. It was like," she imitates his face of shook which gets Asami to laugh out loud. She smiles at her angelic laughter before continuing, "So… about our weird kissing out of the blue thing…" she twiddles her fingers, hoping that Asami would understand her.

Asami shook her head softly before continuing her thoughts. "And with this, I'm good at calling it even. Consider your debt paid."

Lighting up with a lopsided smile, Korra grinned. "Yes!"

They stood in the parking lot for a hot second before Korra broke the silence.

"Sooo…"

Asami repeated after her, "So?"

"About those plans after dinner…?"

Blinking, Asami remembered that she did mention that. She fakes a serious thinking face with a hum before coming up with this solution, "I was thinking maybe we crack up a bottle of wine at my place and see where this goes… if you're up to it of course."

Korra gives her a bright grin. "Sounds perfect."
