Chapter 2
"Yes I am. He has no family so I will be his family." setting him down by a nearby tree to help Miroku. "Will that be a problem?" as she challenged the lord.
Miroku felt the beginning of one of their "lovers quarrel" beginning as he always teases Kagome. He intercepted before it starts "my lord, may I ask what brings you here? You do know this is a red light district." as he raised his eyebrow in curiosity.
"Monk, your mind is very dirty. This one can see why the demon slayer smacks you." as he rolled his eyes. Kagome gave a small giggle. "This village is on my lands so I came to see what has been causing the recent disturbances. There had been several attacks prior to this one. The rumor is a wealthy noble has been coming here for some time seeing a particular female. Said female had taken liking to another male causing these disturbances to happen. Neither signs of these men are around among the dead except for this living pup. "
"It looks like we have some investigating to do starting with who these men are. Could there be a connection with this pup?" Miroku thinking out loud.
They continued to work in silence as Sesshomaru looked around for clues.
Seeing Kagome lifting bodies of children and babies, placing them in the cold earth with pain and sadness made the demon lord think of Rin. What would he have done if she was among those children? Would he be calm or would his beast take over? Without thinking he walked up to Kagome "go and rest next to the pup. You will exhaust yourself."
Dumbfounded by the sudden words "why are you concerned about me?"
"You're a mother now so think of your pup first." Tossing his mokomoko at her and taking over for her.
"You too monk." he commanded.
Both monk and miko looked at each other dumbfounded by the sudden actions of the demon lord.
"I'll get some fish from the nearby river. Can you please make a fire in the meantime Kagome?" as Miroku walked towards the river.
Sesshomaru watched as Kagome interacted with the pup. He was drawn to her alpha motherly female instincts. Besides her own pack and Rin, he never saw her with such a young child who solely relies on her.
"I wonder what your name is. Can you tell me your name?" she cuddles the little boy in her lap. He silently looked up at the bright crescent moon and stars then pointed up to the sky.
"Maybe his name has something above us?" Miroku wondered out loud.
The little boy nodded yes.
"Hmmm...let's give it a try. Is it Haru, Hoshi or Yukko?" Kagome asked. Sadly he shook his head no.
"Let me try. Could it be Hoshiko or Artemis?" Again, the boy shook no.
"Mikazuki means Crescent Moon." Sesshomaru spoke leaning against the tree looking at the sky.
The little boy smiled and nodded yes.
"Mikazuki. I love that name. It suits you!" Kagome nuzzled him. "Mikazuki, can you talk?"
He looked at Kagome with sad eyes and didn't move.
"The pup must be traumatized just as Rin was when I found her. It will take some time." Sesshomaru spoke.
Mikazuki looked at Sesshomaru with wide eyes like he agreed with him.
"That's quite alright. I won't push you. I'm here for you and that's all that matters." Kagome smiled at him. "Thank you Sesshomaru." As she bowed her head.
'This woman keeps amazing me each time I come across her. Why am I drawn to her?'
