Ayanokoji POV
I was currently sitting in my seat which was at the back of the classroom near the window. Generally, in anime or manga, the corner seat belongs to the protagonist of the story but I don't want to be the protagonist because they attract too much attention. I want a life of a background character who doesn't stand out too much.
Looking around the classroom I saw that room was already halfway filled with students. Students were either immersed in their class material or talking to other students. It seems like I already lost my chance to make friends. With a heavy sigh, I look outside through the window.
"That's some heavy sigh" a female voice called out to me. I turned around to see who is it. And just my luck, it was the girl who argues with me at the bus stop and what more she going to sit next to me. But this also a perfect opportunity to make friends with her since I interact with her before.
"Nice to meet you I'm Ayanokouji Kiyotaka" I introduced myself hoping to start a conversation with her.
"You just went ahead and introduced yourself?" she said.
"This is the second time that we spoke. Isn't it fine for us to introduce ourselves to each other?" I explained. It would be very bad for me if I didn't even know the name of my neighbour. She appeared to be in deep thought, after some time she sighed and turned her gaze on me and introduced herself.
"I'm Horikita Suzume"
Before I could say anything, the first bell rang and a woman entered the classroom. She would be at the age of thirty. She wore a suit and had long hair that she tied into a ponytail.
"Good morning students, I'm the instructor for Class D. My name is Chiyabashira Sae." With that Chiyabashira sensei explained the various rules of this school.
This school is different from any other normal school. Here, all students were required to live in dormitories located on school premises. Also, except for special cases, such as studying abroad, students were forbidden to contact anyone outside the school. Even contact with your family was forbidden without authorization.
However, the campus also came equipped with many excellent facilities. With its karaoke spot, theatre, café, boutique, and more, you could easily compare this school to a small city. The campus spread over more than 600,000 square meters.
There is also another unique feature of this school that grab my attention was the S-system.
"You can use any of the facilities on campus, purchase goods from the store, and so on by using S-points. At this school, you can use your points to buy anything. Anything located on the school premises is available for purchase. You can access your S-points through your student's ID cards. It acts as a credit card. Points are automatically deposited into your account on the first of every month. You should all have received 100,000 points already for this month. Keep in mind that one point is worth one yen. No further explanation should be necessary." with that Chiyabashira sensei finished her explanation.
Everyone was shocked by the number of points we been given. In other words, we will be receiving 100,000 yen monthly allowances from the school for three years. This is rather a large amount of money for a high schooler.
As excitement spread among the newly rich students. Chiyabashira-sensei looked over the room.
"Well if no one has any question I hope that you enjoy your time here as students. The entrance ceremony will be starting soon so be ready" said Chiyabashira-sensei as leave the classroom. As soon as sensei leave the whole class erupted into chaos.
"Hey, hey! Do you want to check out a store with me on our way back? Let's do some shopping!" one girl cried.
"Sure. With this much, we can buy anything. I'm so glad I got into this school!" another said. I saw some of my classmates already making plans about going to the mall after school. It looks like I'm going to have a lot of free time. With a heavy sigh, I repeated the rules of this school in my mind trying to understand how this school works.
Two things that stood out to me most. First is that you can buy anything with S-points. That leaves a lot of ground on what can be bought or not. The second is that 100,000 points given to us for this month. The term "this month" concerns me the most. I wonder if anybody else notices this.
"Everyone, can you please listen to me for a moment?" said a student with blonde hair. He looks like an honours student.
"Starting today, we're all going to be classmates. Therefore, I think it'd be good for us to introduce ourselves and become friends as soon as possible. We still have some time until the entrance ceremony. What do you say?" he said that in a confident tone. I wonder if he would become the leader of our class.
"Agreed! After all, we still don't know a thing about each other, not even our names," someone shouted. But it seems not everyone is agreed with this idea. The student with red hair who looks like a delinquent. It seemed he had no intention of getting to know anyone. Several other students followed suit and left the classroom together. Horikita got up and briefly glanced my way and then she started to walk out the door. Also, the blonde guy who caused trouble at the bus got up and walk out of the classroom. Hirata looked a bit sad by their action but he continued.
"Then I go first then. My name's Hirata Yousuke. Back in junior high, lots of people called me Yousuke. Feel free to use my first name! I guess my hobby is sports in general, but I especially like soccer. I'm planning on playing soccer here, too. Nice to meet you!" Hirata introduced himself. He's really brave, been able to initiate such conversation in such an awkward situation. After that one by one, every student introduced themselves. And soon it's my turn and I'm still not able to decide how should I introduce myself.
"Well, my name is Ayanokouji Kiyotaka. And, uh, I like playing chess. I also like ready mystery novels. I'll do my best to get along with all of you. It's, nice to meet you." I'm somewhat able to introduce myself while stammering. I include chess and reading mystery novels because in past one year I try a bunch of different things and these are the ones that I like most to do in my free time. So I thought they will be qualified for hobbies.
"It's nice to meet you, Ayanokouji-kun. You have some interesting hobbies, Ayanokoiji-Kun. I hope we become friends" Hirata responded with a smile. Everyone clapped for me out of pity. Not that I mind of course.
"Likewise" I replied.
After that everyone gathers in the main hall for the entrance ceremony which was pretty boring. On my way back to the dormitory I decided to go to the convenience store. There I meet her again.
"What an unpleasant coincidence," said Horikita in a rather hostile voice.
"There no need to say that," I said that with a pained expression. Even after seeing my painful expression, she didn't apologise. I sigh in defeat. I released that I fighting a lost battle. There is no way I can make this prideful girl apologised.
"Anyway, are you come here to buy something" I tried to change the subject of our conversation.
"Are you making fun of me or you are that much of an idiot?" she said with an icy glare.
'Scary' I thought. Looking back I admit that the question was a stupid one. This is a convenience store. Of course, she comes here to buy something.
"I'm sorry" I apologise even though I didn't need to. But something tells me that if I get on the bad side of this girl it won't be good for my health.
As we look around the store for things to buy we came across something strange. Some toiletries, food, toothbrush, bandages and such daily necessities had been tucked away in the corner of the convenience store and they label as free.
"It's must be emergency supplies for the students who used up all their points. This school doesn't seem as strict as I thought it would be" said Horikita. She picked up one of the free items.
"That what it looks like to you," I said. She gave me a confused glance.
"What do you mean?" she questioned my statement.
"It's nothing," I said. She didn't say anything back. She probably thinks that I saying some nonsense and it's nothing serious. Also, I meet that red hair guy from my class and he was in trouble because he forgets his student ID so I help in out. He introduced himself as Sudo. Just like that, I able to make friends with him. He and Horikita argue a bit and because of Horikita high and mighty attitude Sudo on the verge of punching her but I somehow manage to calm down Sudo and send him off without any incident.
I bid my farewell to Horikita which is she didn't respond. Then I walk towards my dormitory. At the reception desk, I received a keycard for Room 401 and a handbook containing the dorm's rules. I quickly read through all the rules and regulations. I found out that the school didn't restrict the usage of water and electricity.
Upon entering my room I noticed that my room is pretty big, it also has an attached kitchen but I don't think I ever going to use it because I don't know how to cook. Without any further thought, I dive into my bed. Who knew that interacting with others can make you so tired.
"Normal life is full of challenges but I got a good start, right Suzuki," I thought as I slip into slumber.
