this is the second chapter of my 'Digimon' fanfiction for Valentine's Day. yes, I know Davis is most likely being personally attacked in his own flashback, but I'm not going to be a jerk towards him forever in this fanfiction. I actually plan to be kinder to both him and his favorite digi-senpai, Tai, in future chapters.
disclamation: I do not own the 'Digimon' anime in any way, shape, or form. I don't actually know for whom the rights in the show's ownership are reserved, but I can tell my viewers that it's certainly not me.
Later on at the Yagami/Kamiya Family's apartment building, Tai ran into Davis, of all people. These two soccer-obsessed, goggle-brained individuals were probably the only two people in their joint group of friends who could understand one another at that point.
Taichi 'Tai' Yagami/Kamiya: Today was really terrible. I'm devastated.
Davis, of course, had his own response to Tai's reaction.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: Your day was terrible? You're devastated? Excuse me, Taichi-senpai, but you wouldn't even know the meaning of those two words until you'd know about the kind of day I had today.
With that, Davis flashed back to the day he had, explaining his whole day to Tai.
flashback
Davis looked everywhere that day for Valentine's chocolates which could be for him, but everywhere he looked, his wishes were rejected.
Of course, Davis' soccer hero's younger sister, Kari, was the first person he turned to for Valentine's chocolates… especially since he had a crush on her since the two of them were in the very same class in first grade.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: So, Kari, I see you have some Valentine's chocolates. Who might they be for, huh?
Davis looked happily at Kari in anticipation, but she just turned her face away from him. This action of Kari's made Davis' jaw drop in devastation by at least twelve inches (an entire foot).
But, Davis would not leave it at only that.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: Wait a minute! Wait up, Kari!
But, Davis was in such bad shape, despite Kari's older brother being his own soccer hero, that he got winded from running after her far too easily.
A/N: And yet, Davis still dares to wonder why Kari would not look twice at him during his time as a digidestined. Surely, he eventually has to see that his pigging out at mealtime and lack of brain power are both such girl repellents.
Davis just continued to pursue Kari, however, until she suddenly stopped, that is. Once Kari stopped, so had Davis. For one reason or another, he still had the nerve to think that Kari's Valentine's chocolates were for him at that point.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: So, you finally stopped just long enough for me to finally catch up to you, did you, Kari?
Then, a new voice came onto the scene… another guy, judging by the new voice's masculinity.
Male voice: Thanks a lot, Kari. I can't wait to for White Day. I wanna wander around and aimlessly look for the perfect gift for you in return for these gorgeous chocolates.
Hikari 'Kari' Yagami/Kamiya: Oh, it's nothing, really. You don't need to give me anything at all for White Day.
Male voice: No, I insist on giving you a gift in return for your wonderful Valentine's chocolates.
Davis not only became all too aware of this new voice, but he also managed to even recognize the new voice as none other than…
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: T.R., is that really you?
Takeru 'T.K.' Takaishi: The one and only.
Kari, however, was a little put off by the fact that Davis had once again mispronounced T.K.'s name, and she held onto the collar of the shirt on Davis' own school uniform to express just how angry she was at him for saying T.K.'s name wrong, yet again. She even had a staged smile on her lips towards her obnoxious Davis.
Hikari 'Kari' Yagami/Kamiya: So, you chose to call T.K. 'T.R.' this time, did you?
Then, Kari's false grin towards Davis suddenly grew dark.
Hikari 'Kari' Yagami/Kamiya: How many more times do I have to tell you before you finally get the message, Davis, that his name is T.K.?
There was even a vein popping out of Kari's forehead, and it was all because of Davis' own ignorance as well as his arrogance.
A/N: That's right. Davis had finally succeeded at making Kari mad enough at him to hate his guts.
The minute she turned back to face T.K., however, the evil smirk that Kari bore towards Davis was completely gone and had been replaced with a happy smile fit to grace either a king or even an angel. That was just what Kari was underneath that evil smirk just now, as was T.K., it seemed. The two of them were clearly made for each other, and no one could ever take that away from them in even a trillion years.
Takeru 'T.K.' Takaishi: I think you could have gone a little easier on Davis.
Davis seemed to have just now realized that it was a complete waste of his own time and energy to even try to get between two obvious soulmates. It was too true to be good for Davis. T.K. and Kari's red thread of destiny had been connected to one another from the very beginning of even their own lives.
In the end, however, Davis had suddenly realized just how much of a jerk face he was to have ever hated T.K. in the first place, never mind trying to find something bad about the object of his one-sided rivalry for the affections of a girl who would doubtlessly never like him the way he was in this or any other lifetime. A love felt without liking someone for everything they were was just not even any kind of love, at all.
Davis finally decided to turn away from the two lovebirds in order to look for a girl who could give him Valentine's chocolate elsewhere.
He next went to Miyako 'Yolei' Inoue and Ken Ichijouji to ask them if they could spare any of Ken's Valentine's chocolates from Yolei. Of course, Ken's only response to that question was…
Ken Ichijouji: Davis, you know that if you want any chocolates I could always give you a coin to buy some from the machine.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: Thanks for the offer Ken, but it's just not the same as actually receiving them from a girl. Surely, you can spare some Valentine's chocolates, can't you, Yolei?
Miyako 'Yolei' Inoue: NO WAY, Davis! I didn't make any chocolates for you, and you should've seen this coming, anyway… especially considering all the times in the past that you tried to get in the way even of T.K. and Kari's friendship. I only made some for Ken. I don't think that you should bother to look to Cody for even any sympathy chocolates because I already know that he's on T.K. and Kari's side, too.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: And, how would you know that, Yolei?
Miyako 'Yolei' Inoue: Simple. I asked Cody how he felt about all of those times from the past this morning, just before your annoying pursuit of Kari. He and I both told Kari that she should've at least had the guts to be honest about her feelings.
A bit later on his way out of the school building, Davis managed to run into Iori 'Cody' Hida. He knew it was a long shot, and he also remembered what Yolei had told him about what Cody thought of his actions before Ken join their team, but Davis was desperate enough to seek even pittance chocolates from Cody.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: Hey, what up, Cody? How goes it?
Davis tried to approach Cody in a friendly manner despite all of the times in the past the younger, shorter kid called the soccer-obsessed guy a jerk in the past. Cody still wore a scornful frown on his face at the sight of Davis, anyway.
Iori 'Cody' Hida: What do you want now, Davis? Spit it out, already.
Since Cody wanted to simply get to the point already, however, Davis decided to stop beating around the bush any longer and just tell Cody exactly what he was after from him.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: Please, can I have some of your Valentine's chocolates, even if they are just regifted? I don't even care if they are at this point because I'm desperate enough even for regifted chocolates.
Cody immediately saw what Davis was getting at, but just as Yolei said about him, Cody was not sold on Davis' request.
Iori 'Cody' Hida: No way am I giving any of my chocolates over to you after everything you tried to do even to T.K. and Kari's friendship in the past. You always flipped out even when a little girl would look at Kari in the past even when she wasn't even your girlfriend.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: It wasn't my fault that T.K. had the nerve to steal Kari from me when he first came to our school.
Iori 'Cody' Hida: Yes, it was, Davis. To you, Kari was never anything but an object and not a person. She has every bit as much right to like someone else just as much as you do, even when she just thinks of that other person as a friend.
Davis was about ready to defend his crush on Kari when he realized that Cody was indeed right about the way he had always treated her in response to that crush. He did objectify Kari's affections in the past and treated her like his property instead of his friend.
Iori 'Cody' Hida: Even I got more chocolates than you did today and as you said that one time when Kari was trapped in the digital world, I'm just a kid.
Cody then took a deep breath and let out a sigh of exasperation afterwards.
Iori 'Cody' Hida: It was nice of you when you believed in Ken enough to consider him as one of us even when the rest of doubted that sentiment, and of course, I happen to believe that giving Ken a chance just long enough to stop obsessing about Kari was the one good thing that came out of adding him to our group, but it seemed that once the danger of Malomyotismon passed us all by, you went right back to obsessing about Kari. At least, Ken fulfilled his word to the rest of us and was even a lot of help in the fight against Boltmon and Pukumon.
Cody made it painfully clear that while Davis could be counted on when the chips were down, he could do nothing but obsess about Kari once the danger had passed by.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: You don't think I don't already accept that as the truth by now? I talked to Kari and T.K., then Ken and Yolei before finally coming to you for even sympathy chocolates. I've fully accepted now that Kari will never like me for everything I am even in any other lifetime. All I want is some chocolates because you're my last hope, Cody.
Then, Davis began to cry up a monsoon at being told for the third time, on Valentine's Day no less, that he simply had to get over Kari. Cody did of course have some chocolates, but the boxes in which they all were had come from girls in his class that he just did not have the heart to regift.
Iori 'Cody' Hida: I'm sorry that you still can't get over Kari, Davis, but I just don't have it me to regift any of my own chocolates to anyone else, anyway. All the girls who made me these chocolates poured their hearts and souls into the process, and I'd be a jerk to regift any of the boxes I have here with me. If you want any though, I suppose I could share some of mine with you, at least.
Daisuke 'Davis' Motomiya: No thanks, Cody. My mood for even regifted Valentine's chocolates got ruined after that kind of moving speech. I only have myself to blame for being such a jerk in the past.
