It was a cold night of December 2014 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While everyone was asleep, a little girl was coloring a piece of paper by the chimney inside a house. This little girl, named Valentina Grady, was wearing a pink nightgown and had a silver whistle around her neck. But the reason why she was staying in that house was that she was waiting for her parents to come home from work. The toddler was very different from other kids in the neighborhood since she was born with the some strange abilities. Valentina would giggle when animals came near her while plants would bloom or grow when she was nearby. Though strange, her parents liked her that way and kept it secret. So her parents kept her homeschooled to avoid any trouble with other kids, either to or from them.

Speaking of her parents, they met at college. Her father was a school teacher named Matt Grady who had an older brother, Owen, and a now-14-year-old niece, Kate. Matt loved to teach history to his students, but would spend most of his free time playing and have fun with his baby daughter. While Kate liked to tell about her father being a Navy Corpsman in the US 1st Marine Division, Valentina didn't like warfare very much, since her own father told her the nasty things about what Owen had seen in Afghanistan, Africa and Iraq. Valentina also differed a lot from her cousin, because unlike the very cautious and clever Kate, Valentina always let her curiosity get the better of her. Valentina would indeed scare the neighbors by bringing in stray animals or chasing the neighbors' pets, which caused her to get in trouble. Valentina's mother was named Milla Grady and worked as a doctor at a hospital. Given how kind she was, it came to no surprise that every young man meeting her was disappointed by how waity she had been with Matt's wedding proposal. Valentina loved her parents to the point of sticking with them at every time of the day, except when going to the shower and at bedtime.

As Valentina finished her drawing, a teenager wearing a red sweater, brown trousers and hiking boots came down the stairs. Her name was Abigail Duncan and she lived in the house alongside her brother after they left Joint Base Hickham-Pearl Harbor, where they used to live alongside their father, who was a US Navy career officer, and their mother, a teacher, for college studies. Josh worked as a mechanic to help with money while Abigail babysat Valentina to get money. The two of them also knew about Valentina's secret and didn't tell to anyone else in the neighborhood, and also happened to have taken a liking at the toddler. Abigail looked at Valentina and smiled at her.

"Valentina, it's tie to go to bed." Abigail reminded the toddler.

Valentina, not yet feeling tired, looked at the teenager pleadingly and said adorably, "Aw... but Abigaiw, may I stay up fow a few mowe minutes? Mommy and Daddy pwomised me to wead me a bedtime stowy tonight."

Abigail then smiled, finding Valentina too adorable and innocent, and replied, "Okay. But remember your ma and pa won't like it if you're still awake and energetic. Even if I allow you to stay up for few more minutes."

Valentina then brightly smiled and, happy to know she could stay up, replied, "Yay! Thank you Abigaiw! You'we the best babysittew evew!"

"Crap, you're making me blush!" Abigail replied before noticing Valentina's drawing. "What are you drawing here?"

Valentina then displayed the drawing of a long-necked dinosaur to Abigail and, while trying to accurately pronounce the name which was Barosaurus, answered, "It's a Ba-wo-sau-wus."

"Is it a dinosaur?" Abigail teased, knowing the answer.

Valentina loved dinosaurs so much she had stuffed dinosaurs in her bedroom. She always dreemed of seeing one in Jurassic World since she heard her uncle, Owen, and her cousin, Kate, lived there. Though she barely knew them, Kate and her father knew the toddler well enough. Valentina's father talked about Kate being schooled at the Mark Norell High School on Jurassic World alongside other employees' children while Owen worked there.

"Uh-uh, they awe pwant eatews and they awe weally big." Valentina answered with a bright and huge smile.

Abigail then said about the dinosaur, "Wow. I bet they can reach the tallest trees."

"Yes. But they have to stand on theiw back wegs." Valentina said.

Abigail then smiled at Valentina before saying, "Okay Sweet Pea, I'll make some hot coco while waiting for your parents."

Valentina excitedly nodded before Abigail went to the kitchen to make some hot coco, as promised. Valentina then quickly stood up and ran to the sofa. The toddler then climbed up and waited for her parents, looking outside of the dark streets while the streetlighting illuminated some bits the area. As Valentina waited, Abigail brought the glass of hot coco and gave it to Valentina. The toddler then carefully took the glass and blew at the warm coco before carefully drinking it sip by sip as she waited for her parents. Valentina looked at the window, hoping to see her parents. Not seeing them come home after a long time waiting, Valentina fell asleep on the couch with her mug on the lap. Abigail soon picked the item up and put it on the table before carrying Valentina to bed. Once she tucked the little girl in her bed, which had many stuffed dinosaurs, she went downstairs and looked at the clock. Seeing Matt and Milla didn't come home, Abigail was more worried than ever and sent them a text.

"Mr. Grady, it's Abby. I was wondering why you and Mrs. Grady weren't home yet. If you have extra hours of work tomorrow, then I'll watch over Valentina until tomorrow

Abigail Duncan"

Once she sent the message, Abigail went on the couch and seeing through the window the whole neighborhood was asleep, she texted to her brother Josh she would stay with the Grady household since they were still not back. Abigail waited for a while before falling asleep on the couch, waiting for a text that would never come. On the next morning, Abigail woke up bright and early, and prepared pancakes for breakfast while she kept her phone close, waiting for Matt or Milla to call her since they didn't come home yesterday.

Abigail then heard little footsteps coming down the stairs. Turning around, Abigail softly smiled when she saw Valentina coming in, holding her stuff honey-colored Utahraptor she dubbed Honey. Honey was custom made by Milla, who gave it to Valentina while the latter was still a baby. Valentina would from then on treasure Honey and speak to him as if it was her dearest imaginary friend.

"Morning Valentina." Abigail greeted while helping Valentina up to her chair before giving her breakfast.

Valentina yawned before greeting Abigail as she ate her breakfast. Abigail smiled at the toddler and was about to wash the dishes when her phone rang. She quickly took it and went to the living room to answer it. As Valentina was eating her breakfast, she heard Abigail talk on her phone.

"Yes, I'm Abigail Duncan... Yes, I'm associated with Matt and Milla Grady... Actually, I babysit their 4-year-old daughter... What?! When did this happen?"

Upon hearing Abigail's shocked voice, Valentina stopped eating and carefully got off her chair and walked to the living room. The toddler then peeked at ther corner and saw Abigail's shocked and sad facial expression, with her phone still on her ear.

"I see... Thanks for informing me... I'll tell her... Thank you." Abigail replied, turning up her phone. She then turned towards the kitchen and froze when she saw Valentina peeking at the corner. "Valentina? How long have you been standing here?"

"Not wong?" Valentina answered softly before making her way to her babysitter and innocently asked, "Abigaiw, who was that? Does he know whewe Mommy and Daddy awe?"

Abigail worriedly bit her lip, knowing she had to tell Valentina about the phone call, even if this was very painful. Abigail then took a deep sigh and bent down to Valentina. Abigail then gave Valentina a hug. The toddler was confused as to the embrace, as Abigail held Valentina's shoulders while letting go.

"Valentina, something happened to your parents" Abigail hesitantly replied.

"What happened?" Valentina then pleadingly asked.

Abigail then deeply sighed and, knowing she had to tell the truth to Valentina, announced, feeling tears coming down her eyes, "Sweet Pea... Something bad happened to your parents."

Valentina then gasped and asked, "Awe they okay?"

Abigail shook her head and tightened Valentina's hands a bit as Abigail replied, "No, Sweet Pea, they aren't."

"What's wwong?" Valentina asked in a baby talk. Since Abigail didn't reply, Valentina felt her eyes starting to water.

"Abigaiw, whewe awe Mommy and Daddy?" Valentina asked, about to weep.

Tightly hugging Valentina, Abigail replied while crying, "Your parents... won't... come... home... anymore."

Valentina's eyes widened as she heard Abigail's words. Her mommy and daddy... they're gone?! No, her parents promised to come home! They promised! They must be okay! They have to! Valentina began to cry as tears began falling from her eyes. Abigail, who was now trying to comfort the toddler, had actually received her call from a police officer, who had informed her Valentina's parents were hit by a truck, which turned out to have been driven by a drunkard, who has been caught after fleeing.

Upon hearing those news, Josh went to the police station to inform about the Grady couple they had an infant daughter, as well as retrieve their bodies for a proper funeral. Abigail contacted Matt's parents, Candace and Dan, and Matt's brother and niece about the news. Though they didn't display it, they were devastated.

Valentina the cryed every day until her parents' funerals, which were held early in the morning. Families, friends, Matt's students & colleagues as well as Milla's colleagues were all gathered there, not caring about the cold temperatures.

Valentina was with Abigail and Josh. As Abigail stood next to Valentina, Josh stood behind them, trying to comfort the whining toddler. Valentina then put a red rose on her parents' coffins before they were buried. She then placed her picture in the middle of her parents' grave, believing they could see it from heavens. After doing that, Valentina then went back to Josh and Abigail and started whining. As the Duncan siblings attempted to comfort the toddler, they could see Owen and his parents on the sidelines alongside Kate, who was dressed in black army trousers, a black blazer, a black beanie and Jungle Boots. Abigail could easily identify Dan as a retired US Marine, since he was wearing his old US Marine Corps blue dress uniform. As the funeral was over, everyone went home.

Valentina was at her house. Her grandmother was also sitting on the couch trying to comfort her. Valentina was wearing her mother's favorite red scarf while Kate, standing alongside her father in the doorframe, remarked there were stains on the scarf. As Kate was about to say something, her grandfather motioned her to follow him to the kitchen. Kate tapped her father's shoulder, letting him understand to come alongside her. The threesome then went to the kitchen, where they were face to face with the Duncans.

"What the fuck is happening?" Kate asked in a severe voice.

Knowing Owen, his daughter and Dan needed to know, Josh took a deep breath before turning to them.

"Owen, Kate, Dan. We just got a call from Child Services." Josh announced.

Kate, sensing something was being schemed behind her back, asked "And?"

"They just found Matt and Milla's will from one of Matt's colleague, who found it in a secret compartment in his deskdrawer. It states you and Kate must have full custody should something bad happen to them." Josh informed them.

"Fuck. I mean, I live in a place filled with big and small dinos. Some of them are carnivores, meaning they just think they gotta hunt, drink water, eat, get relieved and... You see what I mean." Kate replied, stunned by such news.

Owen, wanting to add something, said, "Not to mention my daughter has a lot of war games in her room and is used to curse a lot. So I don't think my bro made the right choice. Putting a toddler with a gamer, who also happens to be a straight A student, is probably not a good idea. Especially if she lives in a place where everyone is to know how to use a weapon, due to the hazards posed by dinosaurs."

Just as the Duncans were about to reply, Dan intervened and answered in a soft voice, "Owen, remember when I was in Kuwait for Desert Storm after coming backr from Vietnam, Lebanon and Grenada Island. You had to be the man of the house when Mom and Matt were at home with you. Now you gotta do this task for Valentina."

"Grandpa's right, Dad. I used to fill the role of the father when you were in Iraq, Djibouti and Afghanistan. We gotta do what Grandpa said. And I highly doubt uncle Matt would do a thing as he did with his will if he didn't trust us." Kate suggested her father.

Owen thought for a split second and finally nodded to both his remaining family and the Duncans. With that, Kate calle a friend of the family named Barry Sembène, who was a former French Foreign Legion soldier. Kate knew her father and Barry met in Afghanistan, during the 2009 Afghan Surge ordered by President Obama to oust the Taliban from the country. But now, Kate took her phone and waiting for Barry to reply, which he did a few seconds later.

"Hello?" Barry asked.

"Yeah, Barry, it's Kate. Could I ask you a favor?" Kate replied.

"What did you do this time? You stole a US Marine truck?" Barry jokingly replied.

"Very fun Barry. I need your help for my 4-year-old cousin. Especially with the house, since she's got no one left apart from Grandpa, Grandma, Dad and me. Oh, and Child Services got my now-deceased uncle and aunt's will." Kate straightforwardly announced.

Processing what he heard from Kate and her father about Matt, Barry remained silent for a while before sighing and answering, "Good. I'll help you out."

"Thanks Barry. I'll give you a pint of bear someday. As for me, don't give me any drink." Kate politely replied.

Knowing Kate was sincere, Barry answered as he ended the call, "Right. See you later."

Kate then put her phone in her pocket and came back inside the house, where she followed her father and grandfather to the living room. Kate saw Abigail make some hot coco for Valentina while her granparents and her father talking about nothing in particular. Kate then noticed her cousin tilting her head up and came to the toddler.

Crouching down to Valentina's eye level, Kate asked, "Hey, know me?"

Valentina looked at the teenager for a few seconds and replied while nodding slowly, "Uh-uh."

Kate sighed, knowing her uncle Matt must've told stories about her, and asked, "Listen, I know it's a hard thing to hear. But now, you'll live on an island where you'll be taken care of. You'll live in Jurassic World."

Valentina nodded as she nervously looked at her cousin, whom she didn't know very much. Then, Kate felt it was the right time to briefly tell about the new living place for Valentina. But the toddler's face lit up a bit upon hearing the name Jurassic World. Valentina always begged for her parents to go there, but they never could because they were always busy.

"Will thewe be dinosauws?" Valentina softly asked Kate.

"Yeah. There's dinosaurs there, but they aren't all nice. Some are very agressive and mean. So don't be surprised if everyone living on the island has at least a stunner or a Taser pistol. Some also have guns, but don't be too surprised." Kate straightforwardly answered.

Valentina smiled and nodded at her teenage cousin, who then stood up and went to the door, where she stopped in her tracks.

Upon returning to Isla Nublar, Kate and her father managed to call upon every employee who owed them a solid to join Barry in building a new room for Valentina and making all of the stuff the toddler would need to feel at home. Barry was cutting some boards while Owen moved his hardware out of his niece's reach. Meanwhile, Kate was moving her armory away from a child's reach.

Just then, a white Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG Coupé stopped in front of the small wooden house. A redhead, named Claire Dearing, came out of the car, causing Kate and the others to stop working. Being the Operations Manager, she oversaw the park while the owner, Simon Masrani aka the eighth richest man in the world and CEO of Masrani Global Corporation was away. Masrani created the park to fulfill John Hammond's dream of teaching humility to mankind.

"Hey Claire, what do you need?" Kate asked putting her M4A1 carbine on a stake.

Noticing the bungalow being rebuilt, Claire replied, "What are all of you doing here?" Kate then whistled, knowing she did tell about her cousin with other employees and their children, but not quite informing Claire about the actual situation.

"Well, my uncle and aunt got killed in a car crash when their car got hit by a truck. Turned out the asshole in the fucking truck was a fucking drunkard, who is now in jail. Consequently, Child Services have been handed over their will and gave me and Dad full custody over my cousin Valentina. Hence the need to enlarge the house into a kid-friendly environment." Kate said in her usual straightforward voice.

Claire, was obviously shocked and sad at hearing Kate and her father just got custody of Owen's niece. Sure both these two did goof around, such as during the first date involving Owen, when he showed in board shorts while Kate showed up in Desert Storm-era clothes. But how could they cope with raising a toddler while keeping four Utahraptors at bay? Claire then sighed and watched the two Gradies, as if she was telling them not to do anything dumb.

"Make sure she doesn't wander off or get hurt." Claire said before leaving.

Kate then turned around and nodded, letting everyone else know they could resume their job. Barry shook his head, hoping Valentina could handle a wild uncle and a game-playing cousin. Barry just hoped it would go according to Child Services' acceptance of Matt's will.
