The Boy Who Loved Book 1: First Year
A Harry Potter Fanfic
by : Lordwolf3000
This is a AU Harry Potter/Harem story and the first book or two will be rated T but then in either Third or Fourth Year will become M rated. This is the first book in what I hope to be a full series rewrite of the Harry Potter books. This is my vision of how I believe the books should have been done. I will be trying to stick to the cannon as much as possible except for the obvious changes that I envision. Along with some stuff added in from various other fanfics out there that I really loved.
I welcome comments and feedback on my stories so that I can improve as a writer.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters or anything from the wizarding world of Harry Potter they belong to JK Rolling. This is entirely fan made.
Chapter 2: The platform and the ride to Hogwarts.
Harry enjoyed the remainder of his summer but as first the rest of July and then August went by he grew more and more eager for the first day of September to arrive. The night before he barely slept due to his anticipation of the next day. He very much looked forward to going to school and learning magic at long last. He also wanted to see Hermione and possibly make more friends. Finally the day had arrived and Harry's uncle helped him load his school trunk and his owl, who he had named Hedwig, a name he read in his history of magic book, all into the car. They drove to King's Cross Station in London and loaded his things onto a cart. The Dursley's dropped Harry off but because they had to take Dudley to the doctor, to have the tail removed that Harry had accidentally given him when he was practicing with his wand.
Harry entered the station and went looking for platform 9 and ¾ where he would catch the Hogwarts Express. As he was looking for it he realized Hagrid hadn't told him how to get onto the platform. Harry asked a ticket taker about it and the man looked at him as if he were mad. Harry was panicking that he'd miss the train when a family of gingers passed by and he heard the mother say," the station packed with muggles of course. This way kids." Harry followed them and heard the mother ask," now do you remember the name of the platform dears?" The youngest of the children, a cute girl with long, fiery red hair and freckles said," it's platform 9 and ¾ mum, can't I go?" The mother answered," we've been over this Ginny, you'll have to wait until next year when you're 11." The woman began waving her older sons forward and Harry saw them pushing their carts towards a wall between platforms 9 and 10. But just before he saw them get to it a crowd of people passed in front of him and after they went by the boys had vanished. Harry shook his head and approached the woman and her two youngest children, the cute girl and a boy Harry's age with short dark red hair. "Excuse me", Harry said," could you tell me how to-to.." The woman said" how to get on the platform dear, first time at Hogwarts? Don't worry, it's Ron's first time as well." Harry remembered his manners and introduced himself", yeah I grew up with muggles so I don't know a lot about this stuff yet, I'm Harry Potter." The young girl squealed and said," wow, Harry Potter, I can't believe I'm meeting Harry Potter." Harry smiled at her and she blushed scarlet. The woman said," pleased to meet you Harry, I'm Molly Weasley, and this is my son Ronald and the blushing star struck young girl is my daughter Ginny. Now to get onto the platform you walk straight at the wall between platforms 9 and 10 and don't stop, best to do it at a bit of a run if you're nervous." Harry swung his cart towards the wall, squared his shoulders and began pushing his cart straight towards the wall at a run. Just before he got to it he closed his eyes, expecting to crash into the wall any second. When he didn't hit anything and kept moving he opened his eyes. There in front of him was a scarlet steam engine, The Hogwarts Express in all it's glory. He saw a wrought iron sign that read Platform 9 and 3/4 . Harry pushed his cart down the platform seeing several families saying goodbye to their children. He looked around and finally spotted the Granger's. He ran up said," hello there Hermione, Mr. and Mrs. Granger. Hermione smiled at seeing him and said," Harry, you made it, I was starting to worry that you'd miss the train." Dan and Jean both said hi and then they helped the children load their things onto the train. After Hermione kissed and hugged her parents goodbye the two kids went to find an empty compartment. They managed to find one and Harry got their trunks put away in the overhead rack, although he had some trouble with Hermione's, it was very heavy and he was sure it was full of books. Harry finally managed to get it up onto the rack and then he collapsed on the seat. Hermione waved out the window to her parents until the train pulled away and then she took a seat next to Harry. They smiled at each other and began discussing how their summer holidays had been. Hermione told him all about her family's trip to Rome, and how she had discovered a lot about wizards in ancient Rome. For instance, at the Roman Coliseum there had been art work and depictions, that were invisible to muggles of course, of epic wizard's duels that used to take place in the Coliseum, that was before the statue of secrecy was implemented. Harry found all that intriguing, then he told Hermione about the trip to the zoo that the Dursley's and him had taken on his cousin Dudley's birthday. And how he had accidentally set a large python on Dudley when he was annoying the creature. They both shared a great laugh at that. As they were talking someone knocked on the door to their compartment, Harry looked and recognized the ginger haired boy named Ron that he had met at the station. Ron said," do you mind if I join you, every else is full"? Harry said," not at all". So Ron came in and took the seat across from Harry and Hermione. Ron asked nervously," so you're really the Harry Potter?" Harry said," I don't know about the, but yes I'm Harry Potter." Ron then timidly said," so it's true, do you really have the, the…" he trailed off. "The what ?" Harry asked. Ron lowered his voice and asked," the scar?" Harry answered," oh yeah", and he pushed back his bangs and showed them the scar. Ron looked in incredulous, then Ron and Hermione introduced themselves to each other. They spent a few moments getting to know each other a little. Hermione talking about the books she had read to find out more about the wizarding world, she still didn't know nearly as much as she would have liked, but she had still been able to learn quite a bit. Harry also admitted that he didn't know as much about as Ron, even with everything he'd learned from Lupin. Ron and Harry had began discussing quidditch and even Hermione was adding to the conversation, about what she'd read about it, when there was a knock on the door and a dark haired, slightly chubby boy who looked distraught stood there. He asked," have any of you seen a toad? I can't find him anywhere." Hermione answered," we haven't seen one, but I can help you look for it." Harry said," yeah, and I'll help you too." Harry always jumped at the chance to help someone in need. Even Ron went along to help search, although he seemed more reluctant to do so. It took them all about 30 minutes of searching before Harry finally spotted the toad in one of the boys Loo's. The boy they were helping cried out," Trevor"! as Harry handed him the toad. The boy then thanked them profusely and Harry offered for him to join them back to their compartment. The boy accepted and they all went and the boy took a seat next to Ron. He introduced himself," I'm Neville Longbottom, and thank you again for the help". Ron and Hermione introduced themselves to him and then Harry did as well and said," you're Neville Longbottom, my uncle Remus told me about you're family, he said your parents and mine were great friends, and that your mum was my godmother. And I think my parents were yours as well ". Neville looked astounded that he was finally meeting Harry Potter. He said," yes they were, my Gran's told me a lot about my parents and yours as well, my parents were both auror's along with your dad. They become great friends during the war". After that they spent a lot of time talking about their parents and Ron told them how his parents had been friends with the Lonbottom's and the Potter's as well, but that he hadn't learned a whole lot since his parents didn't like talking about much of anything from during the war. After awhile the four of them got more comfortable around each other and were talking and laughing when a older, kind looking witch pushing a cart full of treats opened the door. She asked," anything from the trolley dears?" Ron's face turned a little scarlet and he held up a wrapped sandwich and said I'm a sad tone" no thanks, I'm all set". Hermione said," I'm not really allowed too many sweets". And Neville shared a similar sentiment. Harry on the other hand had a pocket full of gold and finally had someone to share it with. So he pulled out a stack of galleons and said," we'll take the lot".
Very soon he had a big pile of treats on the seat between him and Hermione. There were sugar quills, chocolate frogs, pumpkin pasties, liquorish wands, and Ernie Bott's every flavor jelly beans. Ron hesitated at first but finally dig into the treats with Harry, and then Neville did as well. And then they were finally able to convince Hermione to enjoy some as well. As they were eating, Ron's rat Scabbers crawled out of his pocket and began stiffing around. Ron looked at his rat and said," a bit pathetic isn't he?" Harry admitted," a bit, yeah". Ron smiled and said," my brother Fred gave me a spell so as to turn him yellow, want to see?" Harry nodded his head yes and Ron pulled out his wand, pointed at Scabbers, cleared his throat and recited," sunshine, Daisy's, butter mellow, turn this stupid, fat rat yellow". A slight yellowish light came out of his wand a flashed around Scabbers, but when it faded Scabbers was the same pitiful looking, brown rat. Hermione said," that's not a real spell is it? I've only tried a few simple ones myself, and they've all worked for me, for instance". She pulled out her wand, pointed it at Harry's glasses, which were held together with tape and slightly scratched up, because his aunt and uncle hadn't had time to replace them before he left for school. And then Hermione said, Occulus Reparo!" There was a flash and then Harry took off his glasses and saw that they were like brand new again. Neville said," wow Hermione, that was cool, I haven't really been able to do much of anything yet myself. My family had started to think I was part squib because it took so long for me to show any signs of magic. Until my uncle accidentally dropped me out of our second story window and I bounced". Hermione blushed at the praise and Harry too was impressed by her, and again thinking how cute she was when she blushed. Harry was knew he was still young and hadn't ever fancied a girl before, but he thought that Hermione was definitely the kind of girl he would fancy some day. She was smart, and capable, due to the fact that she was already successfully using magic when they hadn't had a single lesson yet, and she was thoughtful and kind, immediately offering to help Neville when he was looking for Trevor. Harry pulled back from his thoughts and then they talked about which house they'd get sorted into. Why they all agreed that the best one would be Gryffindor, and that Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff wouldn't be bad either, they all certainly agreed they wouldn't want to be in Slytherin. Harry was tempted to tell them about him finding out at Gringotts that he was apparently heir to all the school houses, as well as others. But he had finally made some friends who didn't seem to care about his game and stuff, and he didn't want to ruin that by proclaiming that he was some important wizard Lord as well.
After a few more hours they knew that they'd be arriving at the castle soon so they figured that they should get changed into their school robes. Neville went to fetch his from his trunk while Harry and Ron stood outside their compartment so Hermione could change. Then when Neville returned Hermione stood outside for the boys. In no time after that they felt the train start to slow and then within minutes it was pulling into Hogsmeade Station. The four of them gathered their things and departed the train after it came to a complete stop. They spotted the area where they had to leave their things to be taken up to the castle. Then they heard a booming voice that Harry and Hermione recognized saying," firs years over here, firs years!" They looked to see the giant form of Hagrid towering over all the students. They approached Hagrid and when he saw them he beamed and said," ello Harry, Hermione, good to see ya. And who's yer friends?" Harry introduced Ron and Neville to Hagrid and Hagrid smiled and said," should have figured you was a Weasley Ron, what with the red hair. I knew yer parents o'course, and yer brothers, I can't count the number of times I've had ter run yer brothers Fred and George away from the Forbidden Forest. And Neville, I remember yer parents as well, some of the best people I knew". Neville beamed at the praise of his parents. Hagrid boomed again," everyone this way, the boats are over here, you'll get yer first look at Hogwarts in a minute". All the first years followed Hagrid towards the shore of the lake, and as they rounded a bend there it was, the castle of Hogwarts in all it's glory. It looked like something right out of a fairly take. Huge sweeping arches and crenulations, high towers and bridges. It certainly looked like a place where magic belonged. They made their way to the boats and Hagrid said," no more than four to a boat". So the four friends piled into one, Hagrid got one to himself and when he'd checked to make sure everyone was seated in a boat themselves he called out," forward". The boats lurched forward on their own with no rowers or engines. They sailed across the water and towards the castle and in no time at all they were approaching the large wall of a cliff. At first they were worried that they'd crash into it until they passed through a large opening covered with hanging ivy. They continued down a long water filled tunnel before reaching an underground dock. They all piled out of the boats and onto the shore. And then they followed Hagrid up a long, winding staircase, up and up they went until they were finally above ground. Then they continued on across the grounds until they reached the massive front doors of the castle. Hagrid went up to the door and gave it a loud, booming knock.
Thanks for reading, I'm sure you'll notice some of the obvious changes, such as both Hermione and Neville sharing the compartment with Harry and Ron. For one I always thought that Neville should have been made a closer friend with the golden trio, and I wanted to lay the groundwork for Hermione's friendship with Harry and Ron, as well as her eventual pairing with Harry. Because even though in my story Harry will have multiple girlfriends due to betrothal contracts and such. This is first and foremost a Harmony story. Harry and Hermione are soulmates and I believe JK really screwed up when she changed her own original plan for them to be together.
