Subaru shut the door and then ran, he didn't understand.

Didn't both Emilia and Rem love him, why were they doing that with Roswaal? Was their love a lie?

Despite how much he loved Emilia he never expected her to actually love him back. He had caused her so much pain and suffering after all. His incompetence led her to die to elsa at the loot house, he caused her trouble at the mansion, he embarrased her at the royal selection, and he killed her so many times with his uselessness.

When Emilia first confessed her love to him, he didn't believe her. He thought that she was joking. It was only after Emilia confessed multiple times that he realized she was being serious. Even then he didn't understand why she would ever love him, but he accepted that she did and was happy.

He knew Rem loved him, she told him back when he tried to run away. She said that he was her hero, so he didn't understand why she would betray him like this.

"What did I do wrong?" were Subaru's thoughts

Subaru didn't blame Rem or Emilia for what they did, only himself. If they were doing that with Roswaal then it must have been because of something he did, he must have done something wrong.

Or maybe they finally realized what a fraud he was. Yes, that was it. They finally realized what scum he was and they got rid of him. Emilia didn't love Subaru, she loved [Natsuki Subaru]. Subaru wasn't Rem's hero, her hero was [Natsuki Subaru].

Subaru was just a fool who was only good at dying over and over again. [Natsuki Subaru] was the hero, [Natsuki Subaru] was the man with good timing, [Natsuki Subaru] was the one who saved everyone.

Subaru looked around at the other Emilia camp members, they all treated him so kindly. Before he didn't understand why they loved him so much, but now he knew. They thought that he was [Natsuki Subaru] they didn't realize that he was just a fraud, an imposter pretending to be [Natsuki Subaru]. If they knew that he wasn't [Natsuki Subaru] they would hate him.

He was a parasite, stealing their love meant for [Natsuki Subaru]. It's also why Emilia and Rem did what they did. They realized that he wasn't [Natsuki Subaru], just a fake, a pretender.

"I'm such a horrible person." Those were Subaru's thoughts at the moment.

Then Subaru heard a strange noise, it sounded like crying. He followed the noise until he ended up in front of a room. He opened the door to find Rem crying.

'Subaru-kun, I'm so sorry, please forgive me!" She cried

"Why?" He said

"I don't know, I am so sorry!" Rem has misunderstood Subaru's question

Subaru was not asking why Rem had done that with Roswaal. He was asking why she was crying, why did she feel guilty? Subaru was not [Natsuki Subaru] she didn't need to feel guilty about a worthless individual like him.

He didn't understand, the only thing he knew was that he had done something wrong. It was all his fault, he made Rem cry. If he hadn't discovered Rem and Emilia doing that with Roswaal, then she wouldn't be crying here right now, she wouldn't feel guilty.

[Natsuki Subaru] would have been able to comfort her, but Subaru was not [Natsuki Subaru]. There was only one thing he could do, the only thing that he was good for. Subaru went to find a knife and then he killed himself.
