Chapter 2
"So, what is the issue?" Deacon asks, sitting next to the team in Black Betty as Luca drives.
"We have a DV/hostage issue. A man is holding his family hostage in a grocery store. Two people have been shot. There are other hostages too. About 20 people. Then 3 family members to this man. His wife, daughter (13) and son (9). It appears that the wife left with the kids. This is all we know currently. We will know more then we get there." Hondo says, finishing up buckling his helmet.
"Do you know if the two victims are dead or alive?" Chris asks.
"No. No info on either of the victims. I do not even know if they are out of the store or still inside. 3 minutes to ETA. Let us get ready people." Hondo says.
"Tell him now Jim." Chris says to Jim.
"Tell me what man? What going on?" Hondo asks.
"I was about to come and tell you and Hicks. I had just gotten a call letting me know my mom passed. But I can do my job." Jim says to Hondo then looks to Chris.
"Sorry to hear that man. I wish I would have known before. But if you can keep your head on the job at hand, we will find someone to take over for you when we get back to HQ. If you have any issue, let me know." Hondo says.
"Sorry Jim. Let me know if there is anything Annie and I can do to help you through this." Deacon says.
"Hey man, you ok?" Tan asks.
"Yeah. We made our peace, so it is all good. Thanks. Thank you, Deacon." Jim says, looking a little embarrassed.
"If you need to talk, I'm here for you man." Tan says, slapping Jim's back.
"Thanks Vic. Let get our heads in the right places." Jim says.
"Here we are!" Luca says as they come to a stop. The team exits Black Betty from the back and move out in a tactical line. Hondo talks to the officer in charge.
"What do we have?" Hondo asks.
"We have two victims, deceased. We have 22 people not related to the gunman. 3 related to the gunman. She left him a week ago. He got the divorce papers today. He was denied visitation with the kids for now. We believe that is what set him off. He will not answer the phone. We have been trying. We are trying to get the names of some of the people in there to see if we cannot reach him by one of their phones." The officer says. Just then, the phone rings that is patched through for the landline of the store.
"Hello. This is Officer Hanson. Who am I speaking with?" Officer Hanson answers.
"This is Wilson Storm. You better keep everyone away. I have enough bullets to kill everyone in here and some of you out there. Keep everyone where I can see them." Wilson yells into the phone.
"Wilson, may I call you Wilson?" Officer Hanson says, trying to keep him on the line and build some type of friendship.
"I do not care! I want a car, $20,000 in cash and a plane to Mexico. I want it in 2 hours. If I do not get it by then I will start shooting people. I will be taking my family. Anyone tries to stop me, and I will shoot!" Wilson screams into the phone. Then hangs up.
"He is unstable. He will not last 2 hours. We have to come up with something before then." Hondo says thinking about their next move. He knows that they must see where he is, and the hostages are. So, if they use a flash bang, that they would not put anyone in danger. So, Hondo gets the team to gather. "We need to get a view inside. Then we can plan accordingly." Hondo says, still thinking of all possible outcomes. Tan gets his small robot and uses the remote to get the small robot with the tiny camara on it. They roll it to the glass door and look in. The see on the small little screen that Wilson is by the checkout lanes, alone. All the hostages are in a group toward the left side of the store. Except the three family members. They were closer to the front of the store on the left side. When Hondo sees this, he thinks that they might be able to get a few of the team to breach the back of the store. Then they can use a few flash bangs to distract him and get as many of the hostages out while another member takes the gun. Then arrest him and make sure the hostages are ok.
"Ok, Chris and Tan, go around back and go in through the back door. Luca and Street follow in behind. Tan throw a flash bang to the mans right and one to his left at the same time. Then Chris I want you to go in and disarm him. Secure the gun. Arrest him. Tan, Luca and Street go and help the hostages out of the store. Once they are out, we will have the EMTs look over the hostages to make sure no one is seriously injured. Keep us updated. Once he is disarmed, Deacon and I will be at the entrance of the store. That way we can help get the hostages out. Plus, we will be here in case we run into an issue. Then we can think of another fix. Does anyone have a problem with this plan?" Hondo asks, grabbing a gun and slipping a few clips in his uniform vest.
"Nope." Came from all the other team members at the same time. They all grab a gun and a few clips each. Then the four team members go around back. Once back there, Chris tries the door. It is unlocked and they enter in a line. Quiet and uniform, they go through the stock room. Then into the store itself. Chris motions for Luca and Street to go a few aisles over. The move up the aisle slowly. Trying not to let the hostages or Wilson see them. Tan watches the hostages just in case one sees them so he can motion to keep quiet about seeing them. Once they get to the end of the aisle, Tan pulls out the two flash bangs. He waits for a few seconds. He whispers into the com that connects all the team members.
"In 3, 2,1." Tan says, pulling the pins and throws the two flash bangs out in different directions. All you can hear is the metal hitting the floor just before the loud bang sound. Then smoke spills out around Wilson. Chris charges at Wilson. Before she can get to him, he lets off to shots. But Chris gets to him moments later. She takes the gun from Wilson, slipping it in pocket of her jacket after putting the safety on. Then handcuffs Wilson. She reads him his rights as she walks him out to the cops waiting to put him in a cruiser and take him to jail.
In the meantime, they get the hostages out. Clear the whole store. The police go in to take pictures of the crime scene. The EMTs check out the hostages. The team is talking about how the team did. What they could have done better. That is when they notice that Chris is bleeding.
"Chris, are you ok? It looks like you are bleeding." Jim says, looking at the ground where there is blood dripping from Chris. She looks down to see the blood on the ground. She does not understand where the blood is coming from. She does not feel any pain. So, they help her take her gear off. When they take off the jacket and vest, they see her arm is bleeding. She has a bullet size hole in her left arm. She looks at the team. With some confusion on her face.
"We need a medic over here please!" Hondo yells. Jim tries to get Chris to sit down. Chris refuses to sit down. Her mind goes back to Erika. How she did not realize that she was hit until it was too late. The medic comes out and starts to treat the wound. Then out of the blue it hits her. The pain comes on fast. Which makes her pass out.
