Even God's Need A Lifelong Partner
Chapter Two
"Rescue me
Show me who I am
'Cause I can't believe
This is how the story ends
Fight for me
If it's not too late
Help me breathe again
No, this can't be how the story ends" – Rescue Me – Kerrie Roberts
Disclaimer: I do not own Resident Evil, neither the song. I am writing for fun. This is an AU, based on my ideas with spices.
The night was cold. The air went on and on around them, but nothing could make it go faster. The fear of what is coming tomorrow? Or the fear of hiding everything away from each other? Maybe these, but no one will know.
Chris tried to forget what everything was about. All the fights, and death of millions led him to nothing because he is back, at a Tricell point, waiting for to be on his death row. Not really, but this was about to come for him. He did not want to be a hero anymore. And Wesker's voice kept running around his head. He did all this. To be that picture perfect hero, who everyone adored, and loved, but kept pushing away from themselves to the big bad cruel world to be that shield around them. He was a human after all, like everyone else was. And he needed time out. And it did not matter now, how everyone hated.
Then the morning came around. The little sun was getting on the place of the moon. It was that time, where none of them could sleep any longer. The sun rises through the window, making the dark cold room have a little shine, but the coldness, did not go away.
Chris got up from the bed, then he looked down to the ground. Is he willing to do this? He is, really going to do this. No turn back. Not like he want to turn back now. He let out a sigh out, then put down his gun to the little table. He will not use that now. Neither tomorrow. He is now a human. A normal human, without these equipment's.
The mand walked out of the room, afterwards. He was so lost, he never been there before. It was different from the other Tricell base, where he and Sheva explored around. Like a secret base. The empty corridor was slowly full of light. He thought it would be the best idea to go straight on this corridor. So, he did.
A long walk came because the corridor never seemed to end. Almost like the Spencer Estate. Long dark corridors without a way out. When he reached the end, he turned left, and walked again straight towards, then found a door. He hesitated a little, then opened the door. It was a balcony. Like a place to sit out to have a chat, drink a coffee, and smoke a cigarette. How bad he wanted a cigarette now.
"Good morning." Wesker spoke to him.
Wesker was already awake. Sitting on a black chair, having a dark coffee, from a full black mug. He never slept that long since he could not. He was not a human anymore. He was surprised that Chris would be awake too, at these early hours of the day, but he was a little… happy?
"Good morning to you too." Chris answered.
He hesitated a little, then walked and sat down to a chair, in front of Wesker. Neither of them was tired. They could not even sleep that long. Something kept them up. But they did not know, the thing that kept them up was the same. The fear, of the upcoming days. And the fear of these feelings.
"I think you will need these." As Wesker stood up, he grabbed something from his pocket, then put them down.
Now Chris was alone, again. He looked at the table, where Wesker left him something. For his surprise, that was a black lighter, and a packet of cigarettes. Red Lucky Strike. Chris only smoked Lucky Strike when he was a rookie at the S.T.A.R.S. He was amazed how Wesker remembered to this small detail. It made him smile.
He happily lighted up one cigarette, then let him body feel the nicotine. It is bad, but he really enjoys, when he can take break like this. How happy he was, because he got the feeling of being a rookie again, because of these cigarettes. His smile stayed on, even when he heard footsteps around the balcony's door again.
For his surprise, Wesker came back. But now, with not one, but two coffee mugs. Wesker honestly did not know why he did this. Maybe because he was happy on the inside to be again with Chris like a man to man. Not like enemy to enemy. He put the white mug on Chris's side, then sat back to his chair, and looked at the sun.
Chris was smiling again. He tried to turn away, and look at somewhere else, but it really made him happy. He was smiling because of a damn white Tricell mug. This will do so many more bad things, if things will go these days. He took a sip of his coffee, then his smile widened.
Wesker even remembered how he drinks that damn coffee. When Chris turned to a different direction, he looked at him. The ex-captain was surprised how he made his day. A warm feeling ran through his whole body. This made Wesker feel strange. He never got used to these feelings. Just seeing Chris smiling because of simple things, made his heart full of joy.
"I thought you might need that too." Wesker said, quietly.
He forced himself to look at the ground. What was he doing? Already trying to ruin everything? What will he think of? That he is crazy? Because of everything? No… He cannot let it happen now. He needs to have his cold shiver face on, but… he cannot do it. He took a fast look at Chris. How he smoked that cigarette, and how his face was still wearing that smile. Wesker knew, he needs to achieve that every day…
"Thank you." Chris said, with his smile still being on his face.
Chris saw the old captain in him now. The man with mystery. Who was so professional, so hiding. The mand in blue uniform with sunglass. How he made everyone work hard. He even heard the crazy fights they always had because Wesker thought, Chris did not work hard enough.
But Wesker only wanted the best. To make Chris the best. To be proud of someone. Even though, he regrets that far by now. He seemed to regret everything, whenever he felt Chris around. Everything. Even joining to Umbrella. He wanted to be only that ex-captain now. Just a simple captain who did not live a secret life.
"What do you think, Chris?" Wesker started.
Wesker was now afraid. To speak out those words he kept repeating in his head. He now really wants to start a fresh start. To be honest with someone for the first time. To have someone around and to keep them around. Not losing them.
"About what, Wesker?" Chris asked.
He was curious about it. He started to think that he was on his way to be a better man. Chris wanted to make him a better person. But they were so different from each other. A whole different lifestyle. A whole different person with ideas and thinks of the world.
"About forgiving me…" Wesker finally split out the words.
A/N: I need to end it here to be excited for the upcoming chapters. I really will keep this slow and interesting, because I have a lot in my mind now. I wrote this before my shift. This is my first time writing a fanfic since I lost my great-grand father. And I am finally getting back on track.
So since I have started with a free-day today, I wanted to post to this fanfic, this week.
