The Toryreck lead mines was beginning to get overpacked, the need of lead began to rise and certain shipments began to feel tight, this made Thomas and Percy feel like they were overworked. The manager of the mine knew how overwhelmed the engines were, so he contacted The Fat Controller and he agreed that a new engine will come to help. "Be happy you two." The manager told the engines, "You will no longer feel stressed with all this work, a new engine from London will be coming here tomorrow." This made Thomas and Percy happy.

The next day, the new engine rolled into the mine yard, he was a Haydock Foundry Well-Tank engine with dark navy blue paint, golden stripes and absolutely coated in coal dust. He approached the manager slowly and said in a Cockney accent, "Ello gov'nor. Are you the manager 'ere?" "Why yes I am." The manager answered, "You must be the new engine. I sent you here so you can help out with our shipments. But since you are new, I have decided that you will start with sending some workmen here at Tidmouth. Can you do that?" "I can try gov'nor." The new engine replied as he headed for the big station. Henry was waiting at the station where he saw the new engine roll up to some coaches, "Ello gov'nor, nice day isn't it?" "I'm sorry." Henry started, "Who are you?" "Oh I'm sorry" The new engine replied, "I never gave myself the proper introduction. My name is Sonny. I'm the new engine sent to work at the lead mines. Who might you be?"

Before Henry could tell Sonny his name, the guard blew his whistle. "Oh well, I might get your name soon. See you later gov'nor." When Sonny puffed out the station with the coaches, Percy came in when he saw the lead mine workers waiting. "Henry." He said, "Where's my train to Ffarquhar? Thomas is away to help Toby & Mavis at the quarry." "Henry then looked back at Sonny pulling away to the lead mine, "It appears that the new engine is taking them towards the mine." "What!?" Percy said, "The new engine has arrived. And he's taking my train? I'll have to get him." Percy huffed out the station. But came back in, "I think I should take the mine workers too." He chuckled.

Sonny was chugging his way through Thomas' branch line, he looked at all the sights until he reached the points leading to the lead mines. The passengers were baffled, they were wondering why they were heading to the mines and not Ffarqhuar. Sonny finally reached the mines, "Alright, 'ere you are." "Excuse me." Came a voice of one of the passengers, "But we don't work at the mines." Sonny looked back as he saw some passengers exit the coaches, some of them had cross faces on them. Then Percy rolled in with the workmen.

The manager stepped out of his office when he saw Percy roll in. "What is happening?" He said. "I believe there may've been a mix-up sir." Percy answered, "I believe the new engine picked up the wrong coaches." The passengers then found out that Sonny was just brand new to the island, they apologised to him and they stepped into the coaches that the workmen were in. That night, Sonny sent the workmen back to the big station. He went to the sheds where the Percy was talking to the other engines about what Sonny did. "Oh, speak of him." Percy stated as he noticed Sonny puff closer to the sheds "Hello Sonny." "How'd you know my name gov'nor?" The cockney engine asked. "Easy." Percy replied, "Henry told me about you when we met again." "I'm sorry I took your train by accident." Sonny said solemnly. "Don't worry about it." Percy responded, "Everyone makes mistakes on their first day." This made Sonny smile, he puffed into the space beside Percy and began to tell him and the other engines at the sheds about his past as a coal mine engine.
