The kingdom of Mewni, a land of magic and wonders ruled by the noble royal Butterfly Family.

Today was a special day for the kingdom. It was the heir's 14 birthday and as tradition stated it meant that they would receive their family's magical wand. The family wand was an item of immense power and responsibility.

Moon and River Butterfly stood before their thrones dressed in their best royal clothing to honor the day. They both smiled brightly knowing what this day meant.

Moon smiled, her diamond-shaped cheek marks seemed to glimmer with her pride. It was hard to believe that her child was growing up so fast, soon they'd be taking over the kingdom. It was a strange emotion for Moon, it felt like it was just yesterday when she held her baby for the first time. Part of her wanted to stop time and let them stay young forever but she knew she couldn't and shouldn't. She had the utmost faith that she would become a great ruler and lead their kingdom into another golden age.

They stood there before the nobles of the kingdom, some delegates from the neighboring kingdoms including the Lucitors and Pony Heads, and of course the Magical High Commission.

The doors to the grand hall opened up and Princess Star Butterfly dressed in an elegant blue dress with puffy light blue sleeves with dark blue strings around them, a medium blue vest with darker blue trim and gold buttons, a blue puffy skirt with light blue ornaments and two strings with several hearts, dark blue shoes with light blue puffs on the toes and white socks, and a gold tiara walked towards them.

Soon enough the princess found herself before her parents. Moon looked at the wand in her hand.

She looked at her daughter, she held her chest out trying to seem strong and confident but she could see her hand anxiously tapping at the side of her leg. It was a nervous tic of hers, trying to be confident before all these people.

"Whoo! Go, Princess!" The diamond-headed commission member shouted his support only to be slapped by a fiery member of the commission.

"Star…" Moon whispered, "You're going to be great, I just know it. You don't know how proud I am of you. It's not easy letting this go, it belonged to my mother but now it will belong to you."

Star took a deep breath reaching out for the wand but stopping, hesitating at the notion of the great power and responsibility that came with the wand.

Moon looked at her, her hand found itself stroking her cheeks, her thumb running over her heart-shaped mark. The heart marks on her cheeks were slightly glowing, some of the kingdoms feared that it was a sign of weakness but Moon could never believe that looking at her daughter. Especially since they have also said that about an earlier queen named Crescenta who had bunny-shaped marks, she shrugged off their paranoia.

"Mom, stop it, you're embarrassing me," Star whispered.

Moon pulled away and sighed, she offered her the wand again, "Sorry." Moon said with a smile. "Now honey, it's time for you to take the wand."

"Right." Star sighed taking the wand into her hand.

The wand was covered in white light changing its form. The wand was now light purple with white wings attached to the grip. The bell of the wand has a blue circle with a gold star and pink hearts surrounding the crystal star inside. There is a yellow crown on the tip of the wand, a blue butterfly between the bell and grip, and a yellow tip with a blue heart at the end of the grip.

Star stared at the wand in awe, her wand. She turned around and held out the wand for the others to see.

Those present applauded politely.

"WHOOO! YEAH!"

Again, a certain commission member yelled and was scolded by his compatriots.

River stood by his daughter with a proud smile, "Star, how about you try showing them what you can do."

"Right," Moon confirmed, "it's time to show the kingdom a sample of your power. What will be your first spell?"

Star knew about her family's tradition, that they do one spell once they got the wand. It would be to display their power and what kind of ruler they hoped to be.

Some of her ancestors had done all sorts of amazing things. One of them cleared a storm and turned it into a sunny day. One created an amazing fireworks display to bring joy to the citizens. One used a spell to make a bountiful harvest for all to enjoy. One had made wondrous music with her wand, whose melody was still spoken about today. One of them used it to cut a swath through the invading army and avenge her fallen mother.

Star had made a huge list of spells to be her first spell but now with the wand in her hand, she didn't know anymore.

Finally, a spell came to mind before Star walked to a nearby window and held the wand up.

"Rainbow surprise!" A beam of light streamed out the wand and into the sky above.

Above the kingdom the energy spread out turning into a massive rainbow, it glimmered as it caught the light like it was made of a million large shards.

Star whispered in surprise, "I'm doing it, I'm doing it!"

The beam of rainbow suddenly stopped glowing before it was suddenly engulfed in flames. Sending a few fireballs down below

Even from the castle, they could hear people yelling in panic.

"I can fix this! I can fix this!" Star yelled out.

She couldn't fix it; her mom having to step in to stop the burning rainbow.

Later...

Star later found herself standing before her parents, "Please don't send me to the Princess Reform school!" she pleaded as she remembered stories of the dreadful school and how it literally sucked the life out of princesses.

"Sweetheart, we're not sending you to the reform school." River told her softly, "But we think it might be best for you to go to another dimension to study your magic."

"Yes, we are sending you to Earth." Moon told her.

Hearing this Star gasped in surprise before a look of excitement formed on her face.

"Earth! That place where those people called "Mutants" come from!?"

"Yes dear, I arranged for a friend of mine to take you in during your stay there." Moon said

"Yes, so why don't you go ahead and pack your things in the meanwhile sweetie while we arranged for your-"

Before River could even finish his sentence, Star has run off to her room in excitement while yelling about finally being able to meet mutants. The short king couldn't help but chuckle at this.

"My, that girl sure is excited isn't she honey?" River said to his wife who was also smiling at Star's antics.

(Sometime later again…)

Star was now a mixture of nervousness and excitement. She stood in front of the castle gates, two of her friends and parents were there to see her off.

"Well Star, are you ready?" River said with a smile

"I sure am!" Star said excitedly. "But, would you be able to tell me about the place? I couldn't find anything about it on the books I have about Earth."

"Oh Star, don't worry about will be staying with a trusted friend of ours after all" Moon said

"Oh, my baby's leaving!" River suddenly started weeping due to a mixture of sadness and pride at the thought of his daughter leaving. He trapped his daughter away in a bear hug much to her embarrassment.

"dad, please," Star attempted to rip herself from him, feeling embarrassed, but he had a grip like a vise. "It'll just be a few months, and I'll make sure to call regularly to let you know how I'm doing"

"Star, your father is just emotional." Her mother gently pulled the two apart and looked her daughter in the eyes. "It's your first time living alone, we didn't expect this to happen so soon, he's just anxious that he won't be able to see you very often."

"I know he is mom," she was glad to have some breathing room again, but she nervously looked to her father who failed at holding back tears and back to her mother. "But you know mom, you're taking this rather pleasantly."

Star was now pulled into her mom's chest, which was oddly comforting.

"My dear, I am at my wit's end." Moon said with a hint of sadness.

Suddenly River spoke up again "How will I know if you're eating, or what if you get hurt, or what if you meet a boy and get your heart broken again and we're not there to comfort you?"

"DAD!" Star said as she was released from her mom's hold while feeling particularly embarrassed about that last possibility being mentioned. "I promise you I'll take care of myself. And I will call you guys, especially if I need emotional support."

"My escort is going to be here at any moment. Speaking of, when is he supposed to be here?"

"Right now." Star's friends let out a small scream and jumped back when someone silently appeared behind him. He was a big man who looked like he was made out of metal.

"How do you do, Ms. Butterfly? I am Peter, a teacher at Xavier's school for the gifted. I have come to escort you." He stood straight up with professional etiquette and spoke with a thick accent. "Now, there is much you will learn about our school today so I suggest you make your goodbyes quick, time is of the essence."

She took the metal man's advice and faced his closest friends, Pony head and Kelly.

"Well, see you guys. I'll make sure to tell you how things are going on my end."

"See you, girl," Pony head, who was literally a floating horse head, said in a somewhat sassy voice. "Tell me all about it!"

"Yeah, and if there are any cute guys make sure to drop us a line." Her other friend, who had a bush of hair, added with a smirk. All Star could do was roll her eyes in amusement and ended their interaction with a hug. She was really glad that her ex wasn't here.

Next up was his parents. Again.

Her dad visibly fought back to shed any more tears. Star couldn't handle his pleading eyes and outstretched her arms, inviting him in for another hug. This time she was far less embarrassed and more welcoming to the physical attention.

"Bye, I'll make sure to call you guys after I get settled in." Admittedly, being separated from her family for the next few months was going to be difficult for her to adjust to, and she was anxious about leaving.

"Just take care of yourself, honey." Her mom wiped the tears from her eyes with a handkerchief.

"And remember no dating unless you introduce the boy to me first" Her father added

"Yeah, okay, bye dad. See you mom." She responded in a rushed voice, reluctant to be hearing her dad get into her dating life. She slung on a duffle bag and pulled her rolling suitcase and accompanied Peter. "Okay, I'm ready… Uh, where's the portal?" Star noticed that there was in fact no portal and the metal man didn't have a scissor on him.

"Oh don't worry about that Ms. Butterfly, I've already arranged that"

"Uh ok?" Star was confused by the statement as the metallic man pulled out a mirror phone and whispered something to it. Star was about to say something before a large purple swirling vortex appeared out of thin air in front of them. Star was surprised by this.

"After you, Ms. Butterfly." the metal man stretched a hand that pointed towards the portal, guiding Star to proceed. She was hesitant at first; and nervous, very, very nervous. She eventually mustered her courage and walked towards it and stopped a step short to look back at everyone, who was giving her looks of encouragement. Seeing this she gave a weak smile and waved goodbye, then disappeared in front of their eyes with the metal man close behind her.

As the portal disappeared, Moon smile filtered before whispering "Good luck out there Star."
