Continuing this on quite a high demand from the readers on multiple platforms... Let's work our way into their secret relationship, shall we?
Blue
It didn't take long after their first meeting when they started to find a liking in one another. They'd meet in secret, behind the backs of the others. For Kurama, this was merely another lie he'd add to his script. Botan however, had quite a rough time keeping her secret.
She let her emotions shine through unwillingly during the dark tournament when Kurama was being torn apart by Karasu's bombs. The tears started to fall and in that moment, she didn't care if the other girls would find out. She prayed to not take his soul to spirit world.
Possessing the ability to heal, she was quite the asset to the team, Kuwabara had gotten hurt during his fight with the team Ichigaki and Hiei and Genkai had been forced into a forcefield. This resulted in Yusuke and Kurama fighting as many as they could. Botan clenched the fabric of her denim pants many times during the fights but had to really hold back when Bakken entered the ring. After what felt like hours, he threw Kurama out of the ring. His body hitting the ground made her heart ache but she was happy Yusuke was willing to risk the entire tournament, along with Hiei to guarantee his safety.
Botan eyed him from her spot next to Kuwabara, Kurama sat slumped against the side of the arena, his eyes closed and his breathing slow but steady.
Moving away from Kuwabara, she told herself to just have a quick look if he's okay. The arena shook when Yusuke's spirit gun blew a gust of wind through the stadium. She brushed some strands of hair away from his eyes and tucked a few behind his ear before standing and moving back to Kuwabara. He didn't look at her funny when she returned, he seemed to have appreciated the fact she cared for all of them.
Kurama woke when Yusuke jumped down next to him, they exchanged words and Yusuke made his way back up onto the platform again. Their eyes met when no-one was watching, he threw her a lopsided smile, one which was mixed with uncomfortable pain and worry. She stood once again and made her way towards him.
"I'm sorry I couldn't secure more wins." He said softly as Botan examined his arm.
"Don't even worry about it." Botan started. "Yusuke will take care of the rest, you just sit back and rest." She turned his arm to get a better view of the wound when Kurama hissed. She froze.
"It's the seed of the death plant." He said sorrowfully. "It'll require a lot of energy to remove, energy I do not possess."
"What does that mean?" Botan asked.
He forced himself to smile again. "This plant drains my trapped energy to grow, if it takes too much I might not have enough to remove it. With my energy sealed away like this, I can't do anything about it, I need to wait until the spell has lost its effect."
"So now what?" Botan frowned.
"We wait until after the fights." He nodded.
Botan returned the gesture and moved back towards Kuwabara.
Yusuke's fight with Jin was something different, Botan saw more sportsmanship than rivalry. They had fun fighting and for a moment she enjoyed watching them. All of the sudden, she heard Kurama groan from the side of the arena.
"Kurama are you okay?" She asked, Kuwabara following her gaze.
He lifted his head slightly. "Just laughing." Was his response but Botan knew he was lying, that wasn't the sound of his laughter.
After Kuwabara's surprising victory, Yusuke helped Kurama to their suite. Yusuke and Kuwabara shared a room as neither of them wanted to share a room with Hiei. Neither of them knew Hiei would prefer to sleep outside and Kurama ended up having a room on his own.
Yusuke sat Kurama down on the couch and went towards the dining area where Kuwabara and Genkai sat waiting for him. Botan was getting mad when she saw him struggling on his own but after he explained he requested to be left alone, she reconciled.
Helping him into his room and onto the bed, he felt his energy return with a pang. "I have to do this as quickly as possible."
"I'll be here acting as your support." Botan stuck her thumbs up and Kurama chuckled for a moment before lowering himself onto the bed. Closing his eyes, he focused all his energy towards the seed, commanding it to retreat into a seed.
For a moment it seemed to work, the branches which had forced their way out through the cuts on his arms retreated back into his veins. Botan had closed her eyes as the sight of branches digging their way back into his blood vessels unnerved her more than she thought.
A sharp gasp made her open her eyes, the branches were growing again. "W-what happened?" She asked, alarmed. "I could've sworn they were retreating."
"Not. Enough. Energy." Kurama had closed his eyes tightly, his teeth bared as he hissed under his breath. "I can't do it."
"Yes you can." Botan took his hand into hers. "You can do it."
"No I cannot. I'm out of energy, it has absorbed too much for me to be able to force it back." He shivered slightly.
"Then take mine." Botan said suddenly. She could see it took him by surprise.
"I-I can't accept that." He said silently.
Botan stood from her spot on the bed. "You will, you must." She said as she saw the sheets starting to stain red. Without thinking, she swung her leg over Kurama, cupping his face when she was face to face with him. "You have no choice, I'm not letting you go."
He did struggle when she locked her lips with his, starting a forced energy transfer. As the extra supplement took effect, the plant shrunk much more rapidly than before. The seed clattered to the floor as Kurama's bloodflow forced it out.
She could feel him relax when the death plant was out of his system. A slippery hand found itself upon her cheek and she loosened the contact, pulling away slowly. She smiled at him but quickly detected the smell of iron and the lack of color on Kurama's face. Now that the seed was out, the blood flowed freely from his open wound.
"Better get you fixed up before anything else." She said as she squeezed the cut closed with both her hands. Hiei usually fixed him up after battles, burning the wounds closed. She concentrated as the skin cells reconnected again. He moved to the other major wound despite feeling light headed.
Her eyes hovered over his face again, his eyes closed as she worked. She wanted to sleep next to him, to make sure he would be fine but the fear of thrashing around in her sleep and accidentally hitting him, resulting in reopened wounds prevented her from doing so. So she stayed in the girl's suite with Keiko and Shizuru.
She stayed with him after finishing the job, his wounds were treated and no more red spilled onto the sheets below. The only time she looked up was when he shifted slightly in his sleep. Botan wondered if he would dream about the fights, if they scared him, she quickly shook her head at the thought of Kurama being frightened. She has never seen him frightened, yet.
The door to the suite opened and she stood, glancing back at him before walking out of his room.
"Yo." Yusuke greeted her. "Oh." He mumbled when he had finally taken in her appearance.
"What?" Botan giggled softly. "Got something on my face?"
"Well, yeah, you do." Yusuke pointed towards his own cheek. "You got some blood on ya."
"Oh!" She quickly wiped it away with her sleeve. "Some might have come on my face when I helped Kurama heal his wounds."
"Were you healing him with your face?" Yusuke raised his eyebrows in suspicion and Botan quickly shook her head.
"No it not.. I might have smeared it on myself unknowing there was blood on my hand.. You know what.. Nevermind." She dismissed him. "Why are you back so soon?"
Suddenly remembering why he had returned earlier in the first place, Yusuke spoke. "I promised the edgelord I'd check 'm out."
"He's okay, lost a lot of blood but he'll be fine. We got the plant out so he's sleeping to regain some of his energy." Botan looked back into Kurama's room.
"I'm glad." Yusuke sighed. "Scared the living crap out of me back in the arena."
"You're not the only one." Botan nodded, the cheerful smile upon her face which the team had almost placed a trademark on. Making her way past Yusuke, she turned to say good night before walking out towards her own suite.
