Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Grim Reaper and Supersoldier. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own VK, Sega, Ryutaro Nonaka and Shuntaro Tanaka do.
Gabriel's mother had left the child at the doorstep of her husband's contact… Then departed, Gabriel didn't know much about the woman, he wouldn't know her sacrifice or her departure for years to come.
The place was an orphanage, not a very homey place, but Gabriel's parents hadn't put much thought into the idea.
After all? What kind of parent would ever willingly give up their child for anything? It couldn't be fathomed by anyone.
"How many children will Gallia's wars leave behind?" One of the caretakers asked which was greeted by a sigh as they put the child next to another.
Infants were nothing but common in Gallia. Many encouraged the birth of more… Even if such an idea was insane by their standards… And considered horrid by the real reason this was encouraged.
But the child he was placed to? He wouldn't know who they were until several years later.
(4 years later)
Gabriel looked at Riela who was seizing him up. Everyone avoided the 7-year-old girl who's silver hair was off-putting.
He crossed his arms and walked up to the girl who was busy arguing with someone.
"You'd back off!" Gabriel heard as he approached the girl in question. "Leave me alone! I didn't do anything!" Gabriel heard and then shook his head.
"Stop messing with her." Gabriel said with a frown. "You blame Rie when the food goes missing, when a car breaks down." Gabriel said and clicked his tongue.
The boy looked at him and pointed a finger at Riela who was busy looking between the two boys.
"You always cover for her, Gabe!" Gabriel heard the boy shout as he pointed his other finger at him. "She's the jinx! She's been the jinx since she showed up before you did!" The boy hissed as Gabriel crossed his arms.
"Because I'm sick of you yelling at her, Sam." Gabriel said while blinking. "You did it last week, the week before…. Rie doesn't do that crap." Gabriel said and dusted off his hands.
"Hey, remember the rule against swearing." Sam said as he smirked and looked between the duo.
"Crap? Your really going to get me in trouble for that?" Gabriel said before looking at Riela. "Why was he arguing this time? Because he's upset me and you got the last snack?" Gabriel asked and raised an eyebrow.
He knew for a fact that Riela was special. The girl was the only one in the entire orphanage with sliver hair for example. It was blatantly impossible not to notice her.
That wasn't what drew her to him. It was the fact that chaos seemed drawn to the girl. Gabriel was noted by the staff for having a knack for figuring others out and quickly understanding them.
It took him a week when he was 7 to figure out that Riela wasn't normal. It didn't scare him off, it rather made him want to know her more. That much mystery about the new girl alongside him? It was something he rather liked about her. Things he knew were boring, they could be figured out rather quickly with enough study.
"And?" Gabriel questioned to which he hummed and raised an eyebrow. "Answer the question. I don't see Rie not answering it, last time I asked her? She answered it." Gabriel said and paused for a moment to let his words sink in.
He knew for a fact that she was going to be different and he rather liked learning that about her when it came down to it. Being different in his mind-built character.
"Your just covering for her because your obsessed with her." Sam said to which he got a roll of the eyes. "Don't forget they said we have something important to talk about." Sam said and turned to walk away with.
"Blah, blah… Blah blah. Just like always." Gabriel said and leaned on the wall. "Was he still calling you the jinx? I thought he stopped after last time… because of how NOBODY found it funny." Gabriel said and turned to the side.
He rubbed at his eyes as Riela spoke.
"You have no idea how annoying he can be." Riela said while Gabriel nodded.
"Really, because I believe I do know." Gabriel said in response as he cracked a smile and turned. "Because I know how annoying he is. Remember how I got him to back off the first time? How we became friends in the first place?" Gabriel asked and got a nod from Riela as the girl hummed.
"Doesn't mean you know everyone because you know him." Riela stated and turned to look to the side. "Not everyone knows you, Gabe." Riela added to which Gabriel hummed and nodded.
"Yeah, well you're the only one who knows me, Rie." Gabriel said while letting out a yawn. "The only one in the entire world." Gabriel said and smiled once more with a raised eyebrow.
