Chapter 2
"Pandora…?"
Pandora Pitstop emerged from the bathroom of the hotel suite she and Penelope shared. "What are you rubbing in my face now? And who is this new guy everyone's so excited about? Honestly what's the big deal? I stayed in the room last night because I'd rather sleep than meet some bigshot."
Penny shrugged. "You'd be surprised. Alex Thorne's really nice."
"That cocky, damn the torpedoes idiot? Nice?" She scoffed. "You know how celebrities are."
"Hey… get the door, will you?" Penny walked into the bathroom. "It's my turn."
"Get the door…". She reached for the knob. "What am I, your… great."
"Hey there." Alex was standing right in front of her. "Penelope Pitstop asked me to swing by and meet you. You're Pandora?"
"Yeah. Perfect little Penny," she drawled. "Saint Penelope wants you to meet her undeserving of life sister. Well you've met me. Don't you have to go be self-important somewhere else?"
Alex chuckled. "Not until six-thirty," he retorted.
"Panny," Penelope chided, "be nice!"
"It was good to scrap with you," said Alex, "but I gotta get ready for tomorrow's race. I should cut out."
Pandora scoffed. "Go cut yourself," she muttered.
Penelope gasped. "Pandora!" She cried.
Pandora threw herself on the bed and growled as Penelope threw a magazine on top of her. "Page forty," she said angrily. "Read it! The whole thing! Really, don't you have a soul?"
Pandora opened the magazine and started reading what looked like an interview between Alex and one of those "sappy morning show women" her mother loved so much.
Pandora had to admit… Alex had gotten a bad hand. She gasped as she read the interview. "He… he actually…?"
"Yeah," said Penny, "and you told him to do it again."
Pandora felt sick… she sighed as she covered herself up, feeling her heart break. Wait… wasn't she supposed to be this hard, mean girl who didn't take any guff? She spent the rest of the afternoon in the hotel room. She'd talk to Alex when she got over the guilt. Now, she was absolutely disgusted with herself.
