Demon Slayer AU

(A/N: I own nothing and it was just a little blurb that hit me so I had to write it. Maybe a bit OOC.)

"Let go of her right this second." Tanjiro's voice was low and dangerous as he glared darkly at the other survivor from the Exam who currently had his hand fisted in the white haired girls hair as he manhandled her demanding a blade.

"Who the hell are you?" The other guy demanded rudely and Tanjiro's eyes narrowed dangerously.

"I'm the one who's going to break your arm if you don't release her." Tanjiro said and the guy scoffed.

"I'd like to see you tr-"

CRACK!

The guy jumped away and Tanjiro let him after the water breather had tightened his grip enough to cause an audible crack from the other guys bone.

"Are you hurt? Bleeding?" Tanjiro asked, his voice a lot softer as he kneeled down to check on the white haired child who stared up at him a bit surprised and a bit curious while he smiled when he found that she wasn't bleeding.

"If you're quite done talking." The black haired child, a boy Tanjiro's nose told him, said and he seemed a bit angry at the way the other child was treated but he kept his emotions in check as he took a cover off of a table next to him. Telling them how they'd have to pick the ores used for their swords themselves.

Tanjiro was the first to pick out his ore, trusting his nose to do so, but didn't move to leave as the blond haired boy in the orange outfit or the girl with the butterfly hairclip did.

"What are you waiting for?" The dark haired child and Tanjiro smiled at him although his gaze was firmly locked on the dark haired teenager who had survived the final Exam as well.

"I don't trust him not to try and hurt either of you again. I'll wait here until he leaves." Tanjiro said not bothering to keep his voice down and the other guy shot him a nasty look but Tanjiro didn't let it bother him. He was the eldest son of his family and a big brother. He would protect any child and wouldn't back down from a fight with those who threatened them.

"You don't have to do that and doing it won't get you a reward." The girl said staring up at Tanjiro who looked away from the other survivor to her for long enough to give her a sunny smile.

"I don't want a reward. As long as you two aren't hurt that's more than enough of a reward for me." Tanjiro said smiling and the two children looked slightly confused as they stared up at him while the final guy sucked his teeth and picked an ore finally. He shot Tanjiro one last glare before he turned and stomped his way off of the mountain and back to wherever he came from.

"Good. I'm glad he didn't try and start a fight." Tanjiro was happy that the other boy didn't try and start a fight, he was tired and wounded enough after all, before he turned and kneeled down in front of the girl again.

"He shouldn't have hurt or treated you like that. Here…let me fix your hair at least." Tanjiro said and he was already starting to smooth and brush down her hair like he did for his siblings when they were little or their hairs were messed up.

"Thank you." The girl said blinking her plum colored eyes up at him in something akin to wonder while the boy merely watched curiously. Exam survivors had sometimes been violent towards them before but none had ever actually laid a hand on either of them before…and certainly no one had ever stepped in for them before. This new Demon Slayer was…was strange. In a good way.

"No need to thank me little princess. I hate seeing children be hurt or attacked. To think that someone joining the Demon Slayers and swearing to protect others would attack two children…" Tanjiro said and he gently patted the top of her head and she blinked confused and then she looked away slightly embarrassed while Tanjiro stood up.

"You two should go home as well. I'm sure your family is worried about you. Be safe okay? And if you need someone to walk with you there I don't mind." Tanjiro said glancing at the two children who both stared at him now.

"It's alright. Someone will be here to take us home soon and the Wisteria flowers in our hair protects us from Demons." The boy said making Tanjiro nod but still look a bit worried.

"It's good that you're safe from demons but there are some humans out there worse than any demon." Tanjiro advised them and he decided to wait around a little while to make sure they were picked up safely.

The two children didn't say anything against it and they even seemed a bit happy, the girl eventually gathering the courage to play a few childrens games with Tanjiro who was more than happy to indulge her.

"Thank you for waiting with us and making sure we'd be safe. We'll be leaving now." The two bowed as a woman with a strange haori and a butterfly clip in her hair that smelled of flowers and poisons appeared suddenly and looked surprised at the sight of Tanjiro there.

"It was no trouble at all. You two be safe and be good." Tanjiro said and he gave the strange woman a smile and a nod as he walked past her down the steps. He was more than ready to get back to his sister and Mr. Urokodaki and let them know he had passed and was still alive.

"That boy was interesting nii-sama." The white haired girl said to her brother while they were both gently picked up by the haori wearing woman, both children peering over her shoulders at Tanjiro's back.

"Indeed. We shall have to keep an eye on him." The dark haired child said wondering if that new Slayer was even aware of who they were or what family they were from.

"I like him. He was a nice Onii-san." The girl decided and their temporary caretaker nearly tripped over her own two feet at hearing that title from the child.

"He was." Her brother agreed and then the two fell silent as they were carried towards their home and waiting family members.

They both hoped the boy wouldn't die, or that they would at least meet him again.
