The nameless boy walked down the street. The rain pelted him, drenching his hoodie. He kept his hand in his pockets. He trudged along, following the commands his one tracked mind. People around shifted and moved around him, giving the boy funny looks and concerned glances. His smile grew, finding amusement in these reactions. As he smiled, his dry cracked lips split slightly causing blood to dribble down his chin.
Walking without any hesitation or reconsideration, he marched in the direction of the airport. It was almost an itch he couldn't scratch, driving him mad. He had to get to his destination as soon as physically possible, consequences be damned. There was no turning back now...simply because he didn't want to. He could have easily just stayed home and ignore all of the bizarre happenings, but what would that accomplish? In the same light, what would going to Tokyo-3 accomplish? He didn't care, he wanted to go there, that's just what the universe would have to deal with.
Whipping the drying blood off of his mouth and chin, he looked onward. The airport was in sight. One of many hurdles he had to over come, he didn't have an ID or passport. As luck would have it, creativity was his strong suit. He would figure it out, one way or another.
He thought up of multiple strategies to board the plane, but settled on a direct approach. Quick, easy, and efficient. That was what he was looking for in a plan like this. Once his foot crossed the threshold of the gate, the game begun. He took off his hood and kept his head up, not wanting to draw meaningless attention to himself over a hooded appearance. He blended into the bustling crowd of nameless faces. He entered the large construct through massive glass doors. Immediately, the boy walked at a brisk pace to the flight lists to find one that went to Tokyo-3. To his satisfaction, one left within the hour, perfect amount of time for his deed to be done.
Stalking through the mass of moving bodies, The boy fond the luggage belt. He followed it for as long as he could. No one suspected anything, not yet at least. He smiled, knowing that he would disappear soon enough. The guards that carrying fully automatic weaponry didn't faze him, they were only another obstacle in his way. Moving with out much of a sound, he found the terminal he was looking for. He had around forty minutes on the clock, give or take. Sitting back he waited for a moment to continue his plan.
Just he's luck. Some moron tried to smuggle some drugs and threw a fit once he was caught. Causing the right amount of commotion, making the conditions suitable for his needs. Without any hesitation, he jumped on to the conveyor belt and folded himself into a box-like shape. Disguising himself as a suitcase. The moving belt carried his body through the curtain, just like all of the other baggage. A guard made a quick glance, but ended up looking away. Why would he spend time looking at a black box about to be sorted?
Behind the curtain. The sneaky zombie-esque boy unfolded and got up. He was sure there were cameras, but he'd be long gone before anyone could do anything about it. He looked around to see a nothing but conveyor belts and bags left, right, and center. Jumping down, he found a large pink suitcase that seemed big enough to house his smaller frame. He quickly opened it, to his surprise, not a lot was in there. Only a few pieces of clothing, some towels, and a night bag. Not wanting to waste anymore precious time. His climbed in and zipped it closed, struggling a little, not finding it easy to zip something up from the inside.
To help with the squishiness and lack of space. The boy popped his shoulders out of their respectful sockets. Dislocating them. He ended up dislocating more of his joints to free up some room. While it was quite uncomfortable, actually more painful then anything else, his body slowed as he went into a form of stasis. His eyes shut, falling unconscious for the next day or so.
Darkness, that's what was all around him. He floated in space as if he was submerged in water. Sinking slowly downwards, his feet touched an invisible floor. Looking a head of him, he spotted a strangely familiar sight. A girl with blue hair and red eyes, wearing a school uniform. She smiled at him and walked forward.
"I see you're well on your way. I'm honestly surprised at how fast you are." she said.
The boy only shrugged. " I had nothing better to do, so why wait around."
"Quite." she mused.
She had an amused expression while she stared at him. His tired dry eyes painfully closed and opened. He spoke up.
"So, Rei...I think, I've noticed something. My new, or more accurately, old memories are starting to feel a little fuzzy."
Now that he had time to think, the memories of a lost era seemed to blur together. There were somethings that were clearer than glass, such as Asuka's screams as she met her unfortunate demise. But more ordinary stuff clumped together, like what "Shinji" did at school. The apparition of what seemed to be Rei nodded.
"The effects of the memory transfer are settling."
The boy blankly stared at her. Until his eyes widened slightly in realization.
"A dream."
"A...what?" Rei tilted her head in confusion, "forgive me, but I fail to understand what you mean."
He scratched his neck and closed his eyes.
"Have you ever had a dream before? It's kind of like that in a way." He continued further with his explanation, "like waking up, you remembered all of it at the time, but the longer the day goes on, the more foggy certain details become. You can remembered some parts that really effected you or what was rooted into your subconscious, but everything else gets muddy. You can remember it, but not specifically what it was about."
Rei looked on. She blinked, taking in what he just said.
"That's...quite accurate to the effects of the memory transfer." She said. She began to smile wider.
"What an insightful boy you are!" She made a girlish squeal of excitement, surprising the boy in front of her. "I knew I chose correctly!"
The boy cocked and eyebrow at her enthusiasm. It seemed like he had a fan already, literally for just existing. He did not know how to react to such a thing. She sprung to him, once again, taking him off guard. A once mystical being of unknown origins, calm and relaxed, reduced to a hyper active fan girl. Her face was inches way from his. She smiled like a lunatic.
"Um...hi." The only words the boy fond. Clearly uncomfortable, but his disposition was gone unnoticed.
"We need to work on your social skills!" She gave him a dopy lopsided grin.
"Says the girl who doesn't get personal space." the boy thought. He looked at her as she puffed out her cheeks and frowned comically.
"I heard that!" She snapped back.
The boy frowned. Dear god, he wasn't even safe in his own head. He groaned inwardly and gave a nervous glance at the bluenette, worried that she heard that. She smiled every so warmly at him. He closed his eyes and allowed himself to relax.
"So, Tokyo-3, huh. Why am I heading there again, and what do I do once I get there?" He asked.
"Well, I want you to be a pilot of an Evangelion. For what you'll do once you land, that is up to you. I have already witnessed your creativity, I'm sure you'll think of something." She answered.
"And I'm sure I'll get a bullet through my brain case if I'm not careful."
Rei sighed. "That too."
An awkward silence fell upon the two, well, more like the one. The boy seem fine with a little silence. He rolled his eyes.
"Enough of that depressing thought, when do I get to Tokyo-3?"
"Oh, in about thirty minutes." Rei chimed.
"Damn, that was fast."
Rei giggled. "I can control how fast time moves through here, we could talk for decades and only five seconds would have passed in your waking world."
"...Right." He said, not sounding too impressed.
She puffed out her cheeks again. "You're no fun!"
Sighing, she let it go. "Anyways, before I forget. I must warn you. The Rei that you will meet will be...-"
"I know...I'll help her however I can, I can promise you that." He sighed looking off into the distance.
"Thank you."
"No need, I was going to do it regardless. Whether you liked it or not." He smirked.
Rie giggled. She walked up to him and pulled him into a surprise hug. The boys body locked up as pain shot through his head, trying to recall something long gone. She looked at him.
"Yes, I indeed made the right choose." She whispered.
"Be careful, you now have crossed swords with fate. Your destiny has forever changed."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fate and stuff. That sounds good and all, but I'm getting a little bored in here. It's time to do something pretty stupid." He yawned and stretched. Not feeling any weight on his shoulders.
"hmm?" Rei tilted her head at the aloof soul.
He gave her a confident smirk and a thumbs up, signaling that he was ready to take on the brave new world waiting for him. She nodded and planted a firm kiss on his cheek. His face light up in a bright blush.
"Please be careful." She said.
"I won't make a promise I can't keep" He answered. He wore a sad smile with an apologetic glimmer in his eyes. "Now, I think it's time to start my grand adventure."
The crimson eyed apparition nodded. He turned his back to her and begun to walk away with an aura of confidence. He turned his head slightly to look at her. The boy smiled.
"Goodbye, Rei."
With that, his body disintegrated returning to the world of the living. Leaving the girl alone in a sea of darkness. She frowned.
"He was right..." She gripped the fabric over her heart as her lip quivered slightly.
"It really is too sad."
The shifting of the world around him caused his eyes to open, he only saw darkness. Remembering he stuffed himself into a strangers suitcase, his body stirred. His dislocated bones groaned in protest as he moved. The boy felt the bag drop down a ledge and sit on a angle. He assumed that he had arrived at his destination. Hearing a feminine voice, the bag was lifted with little difficulties. His body rattled in the case, causing whom ever it was carrying it to stop. He heard the bag unzip as light flooded his vision.
A young woman just got back from her stay in Canada. It was a lovely trip, she got to see all kinds of interesting things the west had to offer. She finished finding her luggage and was ready to head home for the evening. Something caught her attention however, A slight, but ever present, shifting in her bag. She assumed it was her night bag that got loose and was sliding around. She shrugged as she set it down and began to open it. She jumped back in shock as a young boy sprung out of the case, like a inflatable ragdoll. His arms swung uselessly and his legs barely held his weight.
"It's a boy!" He shouted.
In a quick motion he flung himself out of the case and flopped to the ground, looking like a weird human-like octopus. The boy staggered to his feet as his bones snapped back into place, the gross cracking sounds made the girl cringe. He stretched to rid himself of the stiffness plaguing his muscles and to pop any remaining bones back into their rightful place.
He glanced at the confused and shocked woman and smiled. His lips breaking again.
"You're not the mother, don't worry." he said, chuckling a bit.
"Thank you, without your bag, I wouldn't have been able to make it here."
He began to walk off in the direction that he guessed was the way out. Leaving the poor woman to wonder.
"Who or what did I just bring to Tokyo-3?" She whispered.
The boy continued to smile as he walk off. He looked around to see a bunch of Japanese kanji that, to his amazement, he could read flawlessly. He found his way around easier than he thought he would, given the fact he was in a foreign place, but everything felt natural to him. Like a fish in water, like a salmon who returned home.
He pushed past the large glass doors, a familiar feeling. Stepping out into the streets, he had arrived in Tokyo-3. He took a deep breath. He felt as if...he was in hell. The godforsaken heat cooked him instantly. He slumped over slack jawed as droll leaked from his mouth, mixing and washing the blood away from his spit lip. Too use to the colder climate of Canada, this damn heat hit him hard. He was convinced he would die of heat stroke before he could make down one block. It also didn't help that his entire attire was black. His first real test and he was already put out of commission.
Snapping out of it, he staggered down the street. He panted with heavy breaths, his lungs beg for cold air. Drool drip from his mouth as he could barely function. He shook his head and trudged on and switched his focus to something more pressing. Already, he had a plan to get to his next destination. The plan was so simple. He would get into NERV by walking through the front door. Easy, some may say, child's play. He grinned to himself, now all he needed to do was find a certain blue haired girl who lack a personality.
Easy...right?
