Hera sat on the edge of the bathtub, her heart pounding in her ears. She could hear the three kids yelling downstairs, but there were worse things on her mind.

She had thought it was just a bug, the same one that had gone around the high school a few weeks earlier. Ezra had gotten it, then passed it to Sabine. But after a few days, Hera knew she couldn't blame her sickness on a bug.

Especially when paired with the fact that she was two weeks late. She finally found the courage to look at the stick next to her, wishing that everything was just a big coincidence. Maybe the bug had caused her cycle to be weird, that could be a possibility. Knowing she was picking at straws; Hera opened her eyes and tears sprung.

Positive.

They couldn't afford a baby. She was already working double shifts at the garage and Kanan was working his ass off at the bar.

Kanan.

What would he say? Did he even want another child? They had adopted Zeb when he had nowhere to go, he was just a scared nine-year-old. Ezra was four when they had adopted him, practically a baby who had lost his parents in a fire. Sabine had appeared at their door one day when she was thirteen- had it really been five years already? - and they had instantly taken her in.

But this time, it wasn't like they were adopting a fourth, a child or a teenager, this was their baby. A baby she would carry and bring into this world. They had never spoken about it.

She was pulled out of her thoughts by the sound of the front door closing and her husband's voice echoing through the house. Hera closed her eyes and let the tears slip down her cheeks. She had to tell him.

"Hera?" He had come up the stairs, probably to change from the clothes he had been working in all day like he always did.

"I'm in here." She called as she wiped her eyes, glad that her voice didn't give away her current state. She quickly threw the test into the trash can, right as he opened the door.

"What are you doing by there?" Kanan laughed at her perch on the side of the tub, and she shrugged before standing up, willing the wave of nausea away as she hugged him.

"You okay?" Kanan's voice held that note of tenderness in it that made her heart do backflips, and his hands snaked around her waist, holding her close.

Instead of answering, she buried her face in his chest, her tears soaking his t-shirt.

"Hey, hey, what's up?" He asked, leading her into their bedroom and shutting the door to block out the yelling of their children. They weren't exactly children anymore though; Ezra and Sabine were eighteen now and Zeb was almost twenty-three.

Hera sat on their bed, the cramped space a reminder that they didn't have room for a baby. Zeb and Ezra were sharing the biggest room and Sabine's room was tiny. Well, maybe they could get a crib next to their bed, but the baby wouldn't be a baby forever.

"Hera, what's going on?"

Well, better get it over and done with.

"Remember the sick bug I had?" This time, Hera's voice did crack.

"Yeah. You're not seriously ill or something, are you?" Kanan's eyes widened in concern.

"No no, it wasn't a bug." She twisted the gold band on her finger, a nervous habit she had done since they got married.

"Then what?"

"Kanan, I'm pregnant."

For a moment, Kanan just stared at her, his gorgeous teal eyes wide. He didn't say anything, and more tears welled up on Hera's eyes, afraid he was mad or upset.

But then a grin spread across his face, and he laughed.

"A baby?" He asked, whispering like it was some big secret. Slightly dumbfounded by his reaction, Hera just nodded.

The grin never left Kanan's face, even as he placed his hand over her still flat stomach, "In there?"

"Yeah." It came out a little breathlessly, but Hera's heart pounded in her chest. "We can't afford it, though."

Kanan took her hands in his own, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles. "We'll manage.

Hera was quiet for a moment, but she soon realised that the thought of having another baby made her heart do swell with happiness now that she knew how Kanan felt. They could manage money wise, and space could be figured out. They would be okay.

"So, child number four eh?" Hera said, placing her hand over her stomach, smiling at Kanan when he placed his larger hand over hers.

"I guess so. Should we tell the kids?"

"Tomorrow. Let's just have today."

I love you, Hera."

"I love you too."
