Chapter 2: Going to Gringotts

Word count: 6180

A/N So I am finally off furlough so I'm not going to make any promises about when I'll get the next chapter finished.

Despite the rather late night the previous day, Harry still found himself waking at 6 am, the time his relatives expected of him. It was probably a good thing though as he had lots to do today and he had no idea how long any of it was going to take.

Getting up Harry rummaged through his trunk looking for a marginally decent outfit or at least one that was clean. Grabbing his clothes he went in search of a bathroom, feeling in dire need of a shower after the previous day's adventures. He found one a couple of doors down from his room. Stepping inside he was pleased to find both a bath and a shower with complimentary toiletries stacked on a shelf by the sink.

Half an hour later, feeling much better for the shower, found Harry walking towards the bar in the main room of the pub. Behind the bar Tom was busy washing glasses.

"Good Morning Tom." Harry said, getting the landlords attention.

"Ah, morning Harry, you looking for some breakfast." Tom replied, setting down the glass he had just been drying.

"Yes, please." Harry said smiling.

"Here's the menu then." Tom said as he handed over a piece of parchment to Harry. Harry looked over the options consideringly. A full english sounded really nice, but he knew after 5 weeks of not being given sufficient food that it would only make him feel sick. He decided instead on something simpler.

"Can I get scrambled eggs on toast please? And an orange juice." Harry paused as Tom wrote that down.

"Anything else." Tom checked when he finished writing.

"No thanks, although if you happen to know what time the bank opens, that would be helpful." Harry asked.

"Banks always open. Closing would mean less profit." Tom replied as he poured out a glass of orange juice for Harry. "Go find a table and I'll bring your food over when it's ready."

"Thanks, Tom." Harry said, picking up his juice. Harry looked round the room for a good table. Finding one in the corner he walked over and sat down. From his corner he could see the whole room and for a few minutes he simply observed the other patrons as he sipped his juice.

At this time there weren't that many people sitting in the pub, but there was a fairly steady stream of people walking through to get to either Diagon Alley or muggle London. Harry wondered at that. Was this the only point of access to Diagon Alley? It seemed unlikely. He contemplated asking Tom but then decided against it. Tom had after all been asked to keep an eye on him and asking about other entrances would probably sound a bit suspicious.

"Here's your food Harry." Tom's voice came unexpectedly from his right. Suppressing his irritation at being caught unawares Harry smiled at him.

"Thanks Tom, looks good." Harry replied.

"Need anything else." Tom asked.

"No Thanks." Harry stated after checking the table for salt and pepper shakers. Tom nodded and walked back over to the bar. After seasoning his eggs appropriately Harry settled in to eat his breakfast, trying very hard to not eat it too quickly. Despite this it wasn't long before Harry had finished.

A short while later, after collecting his backpack from his room, Harry was walking through the entrance to Diagon Alley. As he strolled along the alley Harry noticed a bakery and a grocery store. When he was finished at Gringotts he'd buy some food. Sirius probably hadn't eaten any better than he had and if he was meeting the man again then it would probably go better if he wasn't hungry.

Entering Gringotts Harry looked around for a free teller. Finding one he walked up to the desk. The goblin behind the desk didn't say anything but did raise his eyes to look at Harry.

"Good morning." Harry said pleasantly. "I would like to have an inheritance test please." That he requested a little hesitantly. Sirius was the only person to have mentioned this and while he wanted to believe Sirius, he still felt uncertain. For several long seconds the goblin didn't say anything but his eyes did flick up to Harry's scar. It seemed to Harry that the goblin was contemplating him.

"Of course Mr Potter, follow me." He said finally. They walked passed several more desks and through a set of doors at the back of the room. Three corridors later they came to a door which the goblin knocked sharply on. After a moment he opened the door and led Harry into the room. The room turned out to be an office with another goblin sitting behind an ornate desk.

"Mr Potter would like an inheritance test." His escort stated before promptly leaving Harry alone with the new goblin. Harry stepped closer intending to offer a greeting but before he could the goblin spoke.

"Please sit, Mr Potter." The goblin paused until Harry had sat in the chair directly in front of the desk. "My name is Sharpsaw and I oversee the Potter vaults." He paused again and looked at Harry a little more intensely. "An inheritance test is a curious request." Harry though didn't really hear the last sentence, he was too shocked by the previous statement.

"Sorry, did you say vaults? Plural. As in more than one." Harry's words and shocked tone seemed to startle the goblin.

"Yes. The Potter's, while not a noble House, are an old family and like most old families have a number of vaults. In addition to the trust vault you have previously accessed, there is a family vault, an heir vault and a personal vault in your name." Sharpsaw paused. Harry was just about to ask a question when the goblin continued. "We have contacted your guardian several times to arrange a meeting for you to learn about this." That statement shocked Harry out of his thoughts on the various vaults. There was somebody who knew, who should have told him about all of this. It seemed to Harry that this was becoming a pattern, that information he should have was being kept from him.

"Who is this guardian?" Harry asked cautiously. This was definitely something he should know. How could someone claim guardianship over him and he not know who it was.

"You don't know." Sharpsaw almost shouted. Harry's question had clearly angered the goblin and Harry flinched slightly at the loud voice. Noting this the goblin softened his tone when he continued. "This is most irregular. Albus Dumbledore is your guardian of record. We shall need to discuss this more after we have concluded the business you came into the bank for." Harry could only nod. He was in shock. Dumbledore was his guardian, why had he never said? "An inheritance test is an unusual request. It is not needed typically. You do not need one to claim the Potter vaults, so why do you want one?" Sharpsaw's continuing words jolted Harry out of his shocked thoughts. He came here for a reason and he needed to get that done. Then he could deal with everything else.

"It has been suggested that I may be the heir to another house." Harry said carefully. He didn't want to give away unnecessary information.

"Hmm" The goblin stared at him consideringly. "Very well. The fee is 50 galleons. Which vault would like the money taken from?"

"Oh, Um." Harry thought about it. Before he could decide another thought struck him. "Will Dumbledore know I've had this test?" The goblin smiled at him approvingly.

"A good question. Dumbledore is in receipt of statements showing all transactions from your vaults. If the 50 galleons are transferred directly from one of your vaults to the bank, then yes he will be told. However if you take 50 galleons from the vault and then pay us as in a distinct transaction then he will only know that you have taken money from your vault."

"Oh, well, let's do the second thing then. I'll take the money from my trust vault I suppose." Harry responded, glad he would be able to keep this from Dumbledore.

"Very good." Sharpsaw stated as he retrieved a piece of parchment and a knife from a cabinet beside his desk. Bringing the items back he placed them in front of Harry. "Three drops of blood on the top of the parchment Mr Potter." He instructed Harry.

Harry picked up the knife. Taking a deep breath to steady himself he pricked his left index finger and let three drops of blood fall onto the top of the parchment. The drops soaked in and seemed to disappear. Words then began to appear on the parchment in the same deep red of his blood.

Once the writing had stopped forming Harry picked up the parchment. Discovering that his name was actually Henry was unexpected as was learning that Sirius had adopted him. He hadn't mentioned it, but Harry supposed that standing by a road was probably not the best place to converse on such a topic.

Reading the rest of the parchment Harry was pleased to see Heir to House Black listed in the Inheritances section but was shocked by the rest and then as he read through the list of vaults he saw a name that stopped him cold, Tom Marvolo Riddle.

"As you expected, Mr Potter." Sharpsaw asked, jolting Harry out of his staring at the name.

"Not exactly." Harry replied a little shakily. Looking up to look at the goblin he continued. "Black is the additional house I expected, but the rest…" He trailed off and handed the parchment over.

"I see." Sharpsaw said as he contemplated the results. "The account manager in charge of the Gaunt Estate may have more information regarding this, but you need to formally claim the House before you speak to him."

"Claim the House." Harry stated in response not completely sure what that meant. "I need to do that to get any information on the estate, such as…" Harry paused. Was it a good idea to share that Voldemore was still technically alive. He needed more time to think on this. Changing his choice of words he continued. "such as who else might have access?"

"Yes, that type of information can only be granted if you claim the House."

"Ok, do I need to do that for all of the Houses, including the dormant ones?" Harry asked.

"You don't have to. They are dormant precisely because no one has claimed them in a long time. However claiming them will allow us to audit the vaults. There could be any manner of things in them. Money that could be invested, books of forgotten knowledge, powerful artifacts, or there could be nothing at all. We can't know unless we look."

Harry contemplated the words of the goblin. Was it a good idea to claim the Houses that were so clearly Voldemorts? There could well be useful information buried in the vaults but what if people found out. Would they think him the next Dark Lord like the students did with the Heir of Slytherin business last year. He thought back to his journey on the bus yesterday. His decision to get as much information as he could. It seemed claiming all of the Houses was a good way to do that. He would have to be careful though, careful of who he told and how much.

"I would like to claim all of the Houses." Harry stated trying to keep the uncertainty out of his tone. The goblin nodded and retrieved a bowl placing it before Harry. The bowl was golden in colour and covered in runes most of which were unfamiliar to Harry. Sharpsaw proceeded to write something on a piece of parchment which he then placed to the right of the bowl.

"Five drops of blood into the bowl, if you will, Mr Potter. Then read aloud the words on the parchment concentrating on your desire to claim what is yours." Sharpsaw instructed.

Harry picked up the knife and once more pricked his finger. He watched as 5 drops of blood fell into the bowl. Setting down the knife he picked up the piece of parchment and began to read.

"I, Harry James Potter, claim headship of the houses Potter, Gaunt, Peverell and Slytherin and heirship of house Black." As soon as he was finished smoke started to form in the bowl. Harry watched as the amount of smoke increased and then started to dissipate. Once the smoke had fully cleared he could see 5 gleaming rings in the bowl. He reached out to take them but then stopped and looked towards the goblin to check that was what he was supposed to do. Sharpsaw nodded his approval and Harry closed his hand over all the rings and took them from the bowl.

"Which one is which?" Harry asked, examining the rings. They were all signet rings but nonetheless different, two were gold and three silver.

"Place them on the table and I will tell you." Sharpsaw stated. So Harry placed them down in a row and listened as Sharpsaw told him which ring was which. The Potter and Peverell rings were the golden ones. The Potter ring had a band of red jasper embedded into it with a griffin engraved on it. The Peverell ring had small pieces of ruby embedded all around it and a thestral engraved on it. The Slytherin ring was embedded with pieces of garnet and a snake in the shape of an S engraved. The Black ring had pieces of obsidian embedded into it with a raven engraved on it. Finally the Gaunt ring had a band of bloodstone and like the Slytherin ring and engraving of a snake but shaped as an ouroboros instead of an S.

"Am I supposed to wear them all?" Harry asked, thinking it would be impossible to hide that he had claimed all these Houses if he had to.

"Not at all." Sharpsaw stated and retrieved from a drawer a silver chain. "You can keep the rings you don't wish to wear on this." He handed the chain over. Harry thread the Peverell, Slytherin and Gaunt rings onto the chain. He contemplated the Black ring, considering wearing it but then decided it probably wasn't a good idea to be seen wearing it at the moment. Finally he picked up the Potter ring and placed that on his right middle finger. He flexed his fingers a little getting used to the feel of the ring.

"Excellent, now we can audit the Peverell and Slytherin vaults." The goblin said startling Harry out of his contemplation of the rings. He fasted the chain around his neck tucking it under his t-shirt then he focused on the goblin.

"How long does an audit take?" Harry asked.

"A preliminary audit that counts up any money in the vaults and provides a basic overview of other types of items will take a couple of days." Answered Sharpsaw. Harry thought about that. It was Sunday today so a couple of days meant Tuesday probably but potentially Wednesday.

"Can I collect the results of the audits on Wednesday? I'd like to speak to the Gaunt account manager then too." That would give him some time to think about what he needed to ask and hopefully, if he decided to go to Grimmauld Place, he'd be able to talk to Sirius about it too.

"Of course. Would 9 o'clock suit?" Harry nodded and Sharpsaw noted that on a piece of parchment. "Do you wish to speak with the Black account manager at some point too?" Harry was glad he'd been asked that. With everything he had discovered he hadn't been sure when he would get a chance to ask about getting the portkey for Grimmauld Place.

"Actually, I would like to speak to the Black account manager today." Harry stopped. Should he share the reason why. Perhaps not, Sharpsaw didn't need to know why. Given he approved of Harry not letting the Headmaster know he had taken an inheritance test, he didn't think Sharpsaw would share this information with Dumbledore but limiting information to only those that needed it was still probably a good idea.

"Very good." He made another note on his parchment. "I shall take you to the Black account manager when we have finished our discussion. While you are speaking with him I shall retrieve your vault keys. I assume you will be wanting to visit one or more of your vaults today."

"Um, yes." Harry picked up the results of the inheritance test and looked through the list of vaults to decide which ones to visit today. Reviewing the list reminded him of a couple of questions he had. "What does the number in the brackets for the trust vaults mean?"

"That refers to the amount of money paid into the trust vault every year from the family vault." Sharpsaw answered. Harry thought about that. He had only taken out around 150 galleons the two previous years and yet apparently his parents thought 2,000 galleons was an appropriate amount for him to have each year. He would definitely be taking the full amount this year. He could buy some decent clothes and get a wider range of books. He wasn't sure though how much he could buy with 2,000 galleons. It seemed like a lot but what if he needed more, plus Sirius might need some too. Going to the Black trust vault as well seemed like a good idea, he could get some extra there. He also wanted to go to the Potter and Black heir vaults, but the rest could probably keep for another day. Although he did have another question regarding the vaults.

"This personal vault in my name seems to have rather a lot of money in it." Harry paused, he wasn't quite sure exactly what he wanted to ask. The vault seemed odd to Harry though he couldn't articulate why. Fortunately Sharpsaw explained about the vault before he needed to figure out what to say.

"Ah, yes. That vault contains money and items that have been bequeathed to you over the years."

"Bequeathed." Harry exclaimed.

"Yes, presumably from individuals grateful to you for vanquishing Voldemort." Harry stared at the goblin a little shocked. That was, well, he wasn't sure what to make of that but that too could keep for another day.

"Right, well, I'd like to visit the trust and heir vaults for both Potter and Black please." He stated, moving the conversation back to where it needed to be.

"Very well." Sharpsaw remarked adding another note to his parchment. "I think we can return to discussing Dumbledore's involvement with your accounts."

"Yes, um, when did he become my guardian and how, why." Harry asked not terribly articulately but Sharpsaw seemed to understand what he wanted. The goblin removed a piece of parchment from the pile on his desk and reviewed it before speaking.

"Dumbledore presented documentation to us on the 2nd November 1981 that he was your guardian and that he was therefore entitled to receive all correspondence regarding the Potter accounts and a stipend from the family vault for your upkeep."

Harry was in shock. There was money being paid to Dumbledore for him. He certainly hadn't seen any of it. The question though was whether the Dursleys had received it.

"Are you able to see what happened to that stipend? Since Dumbledore was not actually the one looking after me surely it should have gone to the people that were, my aunt and uncle." Harry tried to speak calmly but he could tell there was anger seeping into his words. The goblin stared at him, contemplating him.

"If your aunt and uncle have been the ones actually looking after you, then yes it should have been paid to them. Do you suspect that not to be the case?"

Harry wasn't sure what to say. He had to explain something about the Dursleys but he hated talking about this.

"They… They say I'm a burden and try to spend as little as possible on me, but they are deeply unpleasant people. I think even with the stipend they would be the same."

"Right. Since the money was paid out for a specific purpose, we can check to see that it was used for that purpose. What are your aunt and uncle's names?"

"Petunia and Vernon Dursley."

"Very good. We will look into this and inform you of the outcome. Do you have any other questions regarding Dumbledore?"

"Yes." Harry said that with more anger than he intended. "You said that Dumbledore was receiving all correspondence, well, I would like to get copies too. In fact I'd like copies of all records pertaining to the Potter accounts."

"All!" Sharpsaw smiled at him. It was a little unnerving. "The Potters have banked here for a long time. Perhaps the last 20 years would be sufficient."

"Ah, yes. 20 years is fine." Harry felt a little silly. He really should have considered that. He quickly moved the conversation on. "Will Dumbledore start getting correspondence regarding the other accounts?"

"No, his documentation was specific to the Potter accounts. He would have to specifically request the correspondence for the other accounts."

That was good. He would have to be cautious of his actions involving the Potter vaults but at least he would have free reign over all the others.

"Good. I think that's all the questions I have for the moment. I may have more after I have reviewed the records."

"Of course. I would suggest that you do return after looking over the records. There are other things to discuss such as the investments you currently have. I had hoped to discuss them today but that was assuming you knew something about them."

"Sure. I'll come back when I've read through the records." Harry was getting even more irritated. He had investments. Surely this is the kind of thing a guardian is supposed to tell their charge about.

"Excellent. Any final questions." Sharpsaw look inquiringly at him. Harry thought about that. There was one thing that had been percolating around in the back of my head.

"Do I own any properties?" His parents had to have lived somewhere.

"Yes, indeed." The goblin responded and sorted through the parchments on his desk. Finding one in particular he handed it to Harry. Harry read it and then read it again feeling a bit overwhelmed. He had three properties. A cottage in Godric's Hollow, a manor that was somewhere in the North of England and townhouse in London.

"This one, the townhouse. Can I… I was told you can provide portkeys to properties." Harry said a little uncertainly. He hoped that was true. He'd sound foolish if it wasn't and what would he do about the Black house.

"Yes, of course." Sharpsaw said in a matter of fact kind of way as if it was a frequent request. Harry felt much better. "What type would you like?" And Harry felt worse again.

"Type?" Harry said questioningly.

"Yes. There are several options. One way, single use. Two way, single use or two way multi use. There is a cost of course. They are 25 galleons, 50 galleons and 100 galleons respectively." The goblin informed him.

Harry considered. He definitely needed it to be two way and he would probably want to go more than once.

"Can I have a two way multi use one please?" Harry requested.

"Certainly, paid for similarly to the inheritance test?" Sharpsaw asked.

"Yes, I think so."

"Very good. You can pay the 150 galleons to the goblin that takes you to your vault. I will bring the portkey along with your vault keys and records. Anything else?"

"No thank you." Harry responded with gratitude.

"Good, I shall show you to the Black account manager now." So Harry followed Sharpsaw out of the office, down another couple of corridors and into another office where he was introduced to Swiftblade.

The conversation with Swiftblade didn't take anywhere near as long since he was only after one specific thing. He again got a two way multi use portkey for Grimmauld Place. Although this one was paid for by direct transfer from his Black trust vault.

It occurred to him to ask for copies of any Black records he was allowed access to, which turned out to be them all. Apparently the current Lord had to specifically request that an Heir's access be removed. Given Sirius had been in Azkaban he had no opportunity to do anything like that.

So it wasn't long before Harry was being given vault keys, a portkey, instructions on using said portkey and copies of the Potter records from Sharpsaw before being shown down to his vaults by yet another goblin. They went first to the Potter trust vault. A shelf on the right held money bags in dark red and pale gold. Harry put 200 galleons into a gold money bag to change into pounds. This was something he really wished he had done in previous years. After counting out another 150 galleons into another gold bag he stepped back into the entrance of the vault.

"Sharpsaw said to give you the money for my inheritance test and portkey." He said, holding out the money bag.

"Thank you." The goblin said bruskly taking the bag and placing it into a pocket.

Having already decided he wanted the full 2000 galleons that had been transferred in that year, he counted out a further 1650 galleons into a red money bag. They moved on then to his Black trust vault.

In many ways the Black vault was very similar to the Potter one. There was a huge pile of gold taking up most of the space albeit far more than in the Potter vault. A shelf on the right contained money bags this time in black and grey. However a couple of meters into the vault was one very significant difference. A wooden trunk about a third of the size of his school trunk sat on the floor. On top of the truck was an envelope, an envelope with the name Henry James Potter-Black on it. As the only non monetary item in the vault he felt the trunk could be important. Hoping the letter explained he opened it and began to read.

Henry

At the time of writing this letter it has been 6 months since the events of 31st October 1981. I hope that whenever you are reading this you are safe and happy.

My grandson and heir Sirius was thrown into Azkaban without trial for betraying your family and killing 13 people. I don't know if he committed these acts but I believe he did not. He was a good person, a successful Auror and your Father's best friend.

Unfortunately I am extremely ill and I no longer have the necessary energy and connections to force the wizengamot into doing their duty and giving my grandson an heir. What I can do though is look to the future, to securing the future of the House of Black.

Sirius named you his heir and as you are also the grandson of a Black, my favourite cousin Dorea, you should automatically become the Heir to the House of Black upon my death. However I am concerned, there is another potential candidate for Heir, Draco Malfoy. His Mother was a Black but his Father was the Dark Lord's right hand. Although your claim is technically stronger Lucius Malfoy is powerful and could help his son usurp your right to the heirship.

To help ensure that the House does not fall into the hands of the Malfoys I am formally naming you Heir Secondus to House Black. This is stated in my will and has been recorded at Gringotts as well as in the family history books.

To protect and support you personally I have also stipulated that should someone else become the Heir, for whatever reason, this vault will become a personal vault in your name and no longer connected to the Black vaults.

The trunk this letter sits on is a library trunk and contains a number of books that I believe will be beneficial to you.

I wish you well.

Lord Arcturus Black

Yet again today Harry found himself feeling shocked. This man, who he had never met, cared enough about him and his place in the Black family to name him Heir and to ensure his financial security.

Harry carefully put the letter back into its envelope which he then put into his backpack alongside the Potter records. Running his fingers over the top of the trunk he decided that was coming with him. He very much wanted to know what books the former Lord Black felt would be beneficial but he would have to look later when he had more time.

Switching his focus to the gold in the vault he considered how much to take. From this vault he could take whatever he wanted. There was no interfering headmaster monitoring the transactions. In the end he settled on 5000 galleons putting 2000 in a separate bag to change to pounds. Leaving the vault feeling even more unsettled he informed his goblin escort that he was ready to go to the Potter Heir vault.

Getting to the Potter Heir vault required travelling down several more levels into the depths of Gringotts. The vault doors down here were spread much more apart than in the higher levels and many of them had crests on them. His own heir vault had a crest containing the same griffin that was on his signet ring.

"Wow" Harry muttered to himself when he entered the vault. This vault was filled with so much more than just money. There were shelves full of books, countless trunks and several wardrobes. Harry wondered if he would ever know all of what was in here and this was just the heir vault.

In the center of the vault was a wooden pedestal with a large envelope sitting on it. This envelope wasn't addressed to him but instead had the words 'Just in Case' written on it. He contemplated opening it immediately like the letter from Arcturus but he'd spent a lot of time at the bank and it was easy to take with him. It was also not sitting on top of a mysterious solitary trunk. He added the envelope to the paperwork in his backpack and mentally added it to his growing list of things to look at later.

Behind the pedestal was the rather large number of trunks. It was the trunk closest to him that caught his eye. It looked rather like his school trunk but had the initials J.C.P. on it, his Father's initials. Kneeling down Harry opened up the trunk. It was mostly filled with books alongside various other odds and ends that students might have.

Reaching in he pulled out one of the books, recognising the title as the potions text for third year. Opening the cover of the book he found that this was not one of his Dad's books but in fact his Mum's. Flicking through the pages he saw that many had notes written down the margins. The book was filled with his Mum's thoughts. He wanted to sit down and go through them all, maybe his Dad did that too. Suppressing the excitement at seeing his Mum's writing for the first time Harry closed the trunk and placed it by the vault door. He would take this trunk with him too.

Harry contemplated the rest of the vault as he wondered around it. He dismissed the book shelves. With the library trunk from Arcturus as well as his parent's school books he really didn't need any more and he still had to get his own school books. He was curious however to see what was in the wardrobes. Moving deeper into the vault Harry headed for the largest wardrobe he could see. It was made from a dark wood and had ornate carvings all over it.

The wardrobe door was stiff when he opened it and took a fair bit of effort. He was pleased though when he finally got the door open. The wardrobe was full of cloaks in various colours and fabrics. They all had a crest embroidered on the left hand side, the same crest that was on the vault door, most likely the Potter crest Harry felt.

He pulled one out that was a very dark blue. It was thicker than his school cloak and Harry suspected much warmer. The crest was embroidered in full colour. Trying it on he was disappointed to find it was much too long.

Putting it back he looked along the bottom of the cloaks to see if there were any that were shorter. Finding one he tried it on, pleased to find it came down to midway down his lower leg. This one was in a dark grey with the crest embroidered in red. Gathering together more cloaks of the same length Harry took them back to where he'd left his Dad's trunk. Standing in the vault entrance he considered whether to look at anything else.

"Are you finished?" His escort's voice startled him as he contemplated. He had somewhat forgotten about the goblin.

"Yes." He responded after a moment's thought, he had been in the vault a while and he could come back another day.

"Black Heir vault next." He contemplated the goblin's words. Did he still want to visit the Black vault. He had got quite a number of items already and he probably couldn't carry much else.

"No, I've spent longer than I intended to at the bank. I'll visit the Black vault another time." He informed the goblin.

Harry was escorted back up to the lobby going via the Black account manager for him to collect the portkey and records.

Exiting the bank Harry was almost blinded by the sunlight. It had been much darker inside. Squinting his eyes against the sun, perhaps he should buy some sunglasses he thought, he started back towards the Leaky Cauldron.

Reaching the bakery and grocery store Harry realised that it would be quite difficult to shop while carrying two trunks. He decided to take the trunks back to his room first. Getting back to the pub Harry was pleased that he passed through without seeing Tom. He didn't think it mattered that much if Tom knew he had retrieved items from his vault but he didn't want the information getting back to Dumbledore.

After dropping off his trunks he headed back to the food shops. He entered the grocery store first. One of the first things he saw was a stand containing picnic items; bags and flasks and the like. There were satchels that were described as having two compartments for food, one with cooling charms for chilled items and both having expansion and preservation charms on. Picking one up Harry felt that it would be very helpful for the food he was about to buy. He continued on selecting a variety of basic foods; bread, cheese, ham and fruit. He also got a couple of bottles of juice. After purchasing his items he packed it all up in the bag and swung it onto his shoulder.

At the bakery Harry found that in addition to a range of bread and cakes there were also pasties and sausage rolls. He settled on getting two large sausage rolls, a large cornish pasty and a large chicken pasty. Adding those to his bag he walked back to the pub to consider his next action.
