The Cellphone:

Rae and Jake had been going through her mother's belongings to see if she had kept any kind of information on Rae's father that could help the girl locate any relations that might still be alive. And they were also looking at what could be sold and what Rae wanted to keep. It was still hard for Rae to believe that her mother was going to miss so many of the things she was supposed to witness as a mother. Jake often heard Rae crying at night for the family she no longer had.

It was Jake who had picked up the phone and turned it on. He was going through the pictures hoping there was one of the Tim, Rae's father. He was about ready to give up when he came across a picture labeled 'Rae's Father'. He stopped and grabbed Rae's arm and she turned towards him, putting a photo album down in the process without realizing that she had been reading about her cowboy father being inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame. She looked at the picture on the phone and snatched the photo album back up. Her mother had a whole album dedicated to her father.

The two friends had taken their discoveries to the kitchen where Jake's mom, Jackie, was making dinner. When they showed her what they'd found, she stopped what she was doing and called her husband, Jonathan, in from the barn where he had a Veterinarian Clinic to take care of the many animals in the Sanctuary. They both looked at the evidence and decided that Rae had to investigate herself. Jake would be going with and they would bring their horses so they could work on whatever Ranch or Farm that they could find work at.

So the friends packed their bags into the camper/horse trailer (they make trailers with living compartments in front of horse trailer part) and got the horses comfortable in the back. They packed the evidence into a backpack and put it into the back or Rae's truck with their laptops and any movies that they wanted to bring with. As soon as they were ready, they got into the truck with Rae driving and they left the Sanctuary, but they would always return no matter what because the Sanctuary was there home, no matter how long they were away.

Heartland Ranch:

It didn't take the friends long to find their way to Heartland Ranch. There questions got them the answers that they needed. Now it was only coming up with a lie to stay at the Ranch and be able to work and thus that could be the lie. They needed the work and were willing to live in their trailer that they brought with them and work was immediately given, though they were told that they could eat dinner with everyone in the house.

Work was fine and the friends, who were used to getting up at 5am every morning, now could get up at 8am. They ate in the house but kept their conversations light, not wanting to give too much away as to why they were really at the Ranch. While they were in their trailer, they discussed what they needed to do and what they would do when the time came. And they also did their homework so that they wouldn't fall behind in their studies. While they were at work, they discussed the Sanctuary and how they could help from so far away.

It was an immediate interest to the Fleming girls that the two friends could discuss something such as a Sanctuary neither had heard about. But it soon became evident to everyone at the Ranch that the two friends lived on an Animal Sanctuary and that it now belonged solely to Rae, though they weren't sure why as the girl never talked about her mother or father. Amy and Mallory both thought it weird that Rae owned her own property and still wanted to work at Heartland, but they also knew that it was only a matter of time before the truth came out and they were waiting for that to happen.

Dinner At Heartland:

After two weeks at the Ranch, a special dinner had been planned for Jack's birthday and family and close friends were invited. Rae and Jake had planned to eat in their trailer but were told that they would be welcome to eat dinner inside. They accepted and Rae made her mother's mashed potatoes to go along with the meal. Lou was going all out for the dinner. She had invited her father and his on again/off again girlfriend Janice, Jack's girlfriend Lisa, Mallory and Georgie, Caleb, Ashley and Ty and of course Scott. Rae figured since they worked for the family and were new and all, that getting a present was expected.
